Elon Musk is a horrible human

He just makes me cringe. He buys twitter after changing his mind backwards and forwards, promptly sacks half the staff, and then tells the rest they have to be in the office for at least 40 hours a week, despite them having been told previously they could wfh forever if they want.
He's a psychopath, right?

the way he thinks might be different

That's definitely true. Whether he has Aspergers / ASD or not, I can't say. He says he has. But then he's proven to be a liar so many times that who knows. But he's definitely not a nice human being, and that isn't an ASD trait. Pretty sure that's all him.

Exactly. ASD isn’t an explanation for his unpleasantness. The Thai cave rescue, playing with people’s lives in this takeover (it’s clear he doesn’t give a shit about employee wellbeing) and threatening to ‘thermonuclear name and shame’ companies who are pulling advertising... Neurodiversity doesn’t cause this behaviour, and even if it did certainly doesn’t excuse it.

Still, lots on here clearly like a strongman boss, and there will be approval from those posters for things like 100% return to the office.

LemonSwan · 10/11/2022 16:15

Twitter staff/ moderation in itself was HIGHLY unjust and toxic.

I too am unsure about Elon; hes certainly thrown a few clangers and hissy fits.

Does he achieve what he sets out too. It does seem so. So I can only hope he succeeds in returning balance to Twitter.

orbitalcrisis · 10/11/2022 16:19

Some Autistic people can come across quite narcissistic at times. And early in the history of recognising and diagnosing Autism, autistic people were considered to be psychopaths. We know better now, but it doesn't stop an autistic person from also being a narcissist or psychopath! It's totally possible to have any number of co-morbid conditions.

I don't dislike Elon Musk because of his Autism (well maybe a little as he gives the rest of us a bed name) I dislike him because of his personality!

I'm pretty sure it's not his autism I dislike him for either @orbitalcrisis. I have 2 diagnosed close family members and another 2 or 3 who I think would also be diagnosed should they choose to go that path and I can guarantee you their behaviour does not line up with what I see coming from him. I actually find it a bit offensive that some people seem to think his behaviour is due to his autism and not just because he's a dick.

You clearly don’t have a business mindset OP, shouldn’t start a convo about a thing you don’t have a clue about

WakingUpDistress · 10/11/2022 14:27

Such a great one that he has had to make U turns several times already.

  • first on buying Twitter in the first place - but he couldn’t back off
  • Now the whole blue tick debacle trying to make people pay etc….
he looks like he has no ducking clue as a business man tbh.

LOL I think he has made more money in business than you ever will

londongals · 10/11/2022 16:39

Foolsandtheirmoney · 10/11/2022 15:59

He could do so much good with the money that his family made off the back of the appropration of others. He could make a real change to the world. Feed the starving. Build libraries. Help women in Iran. He will never need or use a fraction of his wealth. But he spends his money buying twitter, building a spaceship and making his face look like it's made out of plastic

This sums up how I feel about him. He could do so much good in the world instead he appears to be a self obsessed man intent on spending his wealth on vanity projects.

Someone said something like he was the only one to help ukraine by giving them starlink. I gave more to ukraine in proportion to the amount of money I have than he has and I bet a whole lot of other people have too.

Why should he
He is not responsible for every other person on the planet
Surely parents are the people who are responsible for their own kids
As for the starving maybe their families who have no jobs but have 10 kids should think about how they are going to support kids before having them
We did
If you care so much give all your money away to Iran or Africa

LondonWolf · 10/11/2022 16:45

I think he's great 😊

Fair enough. You're right I don't have a business mindset.

You absolutely should start conversations about things you don't have a clue about! How would anyone ever learn anything otherwise?

pompomdaisy · 10/11/2022 17:06

I find him childlike and some of his tweets reflect that. However he does seem astute financially. Not a psychopath though. No.

MintyFreshOne · 10/11/2022 17:06

playing with people’s lives in this takeover

He is cutting out the fat in the company. Nearly all tech companies are doing massive layoffs due to bloated hiring practices during the good times — they are getting a good severance package

musk does seem like a flim-flam man tho

Schmeeeee · 10/11/2022 17:14

grapehyacinthisactuallyblue · 10/11/2022 14:51

He's a psychopath, right?

What a horrible thing to say. I don't particularly like him, but still I wouldn't say that. He has Asperger's, so the way he thinks might be different.

He is also rumoured to have ADHD.

Either way, he overpaid for the company, and he needs to reign in the business ASAP before the whole thing goes bust. It's was operating on a massive loss.

In a way, I feel like Elon's sackings have given Mark Z the courage to get rid of a bunch of his staff too. A well needed move, as they're not doing very well either

cinnabongene · 10/11/2022 15:31

My friend worked with him on the SpaceX project in California. When she left she was given a new Tesla. I don’t think she thought he was a psychopath 🤷‍♀️

I hope it's not your intention but that makes your friend sound like someone totally shallow and easily bought

orbitalcrisis · 10/11/2022 17:23

@Pleasepleasepleaseno I didn't think you did, don't worry! As an autistic person I am quite insulted by a few people that think we can't be dicks or psychopaths. I was a massive dick as a teenager just like everyone else!

AnApparitionQuipped · 10/11/2022 17:26

It's always the same when someone new takes over a company, be it large or small. They have to make their presence known by swinging their dick, about no matter who gets knocked down by it or how much of a prat they look.

FamSender · 10/11/2022 17:33

I like his sense of humour.
I like the fact he is true to himself and that he doesn't take himself too seriously.
He is also able to admit mistakes (there's been many) and respond to feedback.
He seems more human and flawed than other billionaires.
I like him.

LynetteScavo · 10/11/2022 17:38

He knows how to make himself rich. That's something I don't know. He doesn't seem to be a particularly wholesome human being though.

DH thinks he's very unsavoury and will eventually be exposed 🤷🏼‍♀️

Schmeeeee · 10/11/2022 17:50

@TimeForMeToF1y - I completely disagree. That's a bit of an OTT conclusion to get from that. I doubt that the friend mentioned was aware that she'd be getting a Tesla when she left the company. I would view that as an unexpected bonus since the whole project was a success. Either way, at the end of the day, if a person is deciding between two jobs and needs the money to live they're going to go with the one that pays the best or offers the best perks. I don't think that makes a person shallow or easily bought Confused

Mañanarama · 10/11/2022 18:06

Twitter is just a cess pit of the worst humans on this earth. Hope it fails.

As for Musk, I had no opinion of him until the whole Thai cave debacle, and now I just think he’s a narcissistic knobhead. Like others have said, I’d have more respect if he used his billions for something worthwhile, instead of vanity projects.

I’m not sure buying Twitter for the price he did and then chasing off the advertisers is going to turn out to be particularly astute.

What, you never figured out how to have a rich father?

Justanotherlurker · 10/11/2022 18:13

I work in the industry (not twitter but on of the major companies everyone uses every day). Elon has become the latest hate figure without anyone really knowing why they don't like him (like the OP of this thread).

Tech layoffs is happening in large numbers across all sectors, it's only those who live by twitter trends who are 'concerned' by a relatively small number of twitter employees being let go.

Also the majority of those that are being let go (again across many firms - including as a pp said Meta) is the middle/community management non technical jobs.

The jobs that anyone in the industry knows they will be the first to go in a restructure and where most of the problems (especially in twitter) is coming from.

I've been in tech for over 15 years and it's about time for a correction. They've been scraping the bottom of the barrel for cheap tech talent and spending huge wages on other areas.

JennyForeigner · 10/11/2022 18:20

pastafairyan · 10/11/2022 15:14

They were useless jobs and slacking and doing nothing. If you don't think that's the case then go on Twitter and witness that it's exactly the same without those people.

They were approaching employees to come back yesterday, having figured out just how much they were needed.

How smart does that make Musk?
