So what are your energy bills this month?

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

I am with Octopus on a 2 year fixed rate ending next September. Gas this month was £20 and electricity £40. I have been using more (can’t lay my hands on the exact units) but I am terrified as a single parent of the costs of this next year when my fixed rate ends

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 15:21

@Temporaryname158 bloody hell that’s good for a month though!! Don’t suppose you know what your Tarif is and how much you used? Just curious if we are using an absurd amount of energy!!

£119 for both gas and electric. We just pay the bill as it comes in. We don't use the central heating. Ds has a gaming computer which costs the most out of all the appliances. We've cut back elsewhere, but it's his only social outlet, so it stays.

£105. We don’t use the heating but we do have an electric car

NewBootsAndRanty · 01/11/2022 15:35

Octopus SVR
Electric: 42kwh £13.87
Gas: 370kwh £37.88
Plus standing charges of £23.16
£74.91 total.
I'm in a 1 bed flat, have had the heating on every evening through October.

Squishedstormtrooper · 01/11/2022 15:41

£43 gas and £53 electricity. I expected much worse. We have been putting the heating on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening with the occasional boost. It’s a fair sized 4 bed new build so quite efficient (if you ignore the crap fit of the front door).

Sirzy · 01/11/2022 15:45

£85 electric and £23 gas.

Lifeisrelentless · 01/11/2022 15:50

Also with octopus- just under £120 for both gas and elec, more than we used to pay but could be worse

somethinsomethin · 01/11/2022 15:52

For electricity I was £48 in August, £70 in September and £98 in October. Sad That's also me switching from tumble drying everything to only using it when I absolutely have to. I don't really have anything else to cut back on.

Chasingsquirrels · 01/11/2022 15:54

Electric - haven't had the bill yet but just worked out the cost based on the reading (185 kwh usage) I submitted yesterday and it will be about £81 inc standing charge, of which £66 will be covered by the rebate scheme.

Oil boiler for the heating (not had on yet) and hot water.
Average around 1,000 litres a year, current rates are around 85p+5% vat a litre.
Most of it gets used over the winter for heating, so on current rates provably around £150 for 4 months a year and £35 for the other 8.
But obviously more if the heating is on more, and depends on what price you can get when you order.
Paid up front when I have an oil delivery.

No gas supply to the village.

medianewbie · 01/11/2022 15:57

£301 for both with Scottish Gas.
Normally approx £200/250 p/m but they insisted on reading the meter in person so it screwed up my monthly bill pattern. I've not put the heating on yet, 1 use the w/m 3x wk, no t/d, d/w every other day. I'm not sure what else I can do to economise. My house has no roof insulation - no grants etc to cover & I'm a Carer on income support so I can't do it. I'm cold & scared of winter.

girlmom21 · 01/11/2022 15:57

Mine was just over £100 for both taking the discount into account. Should have been £170ish.

AnaBananas · 01/11/2022 15:57

£217 for gas and electricity. We've had to have the heating on as we have a toddler and our house is poorly insulated.

EcoCustard · 01/11/2022 15:58

£60 electric used in October down from September and all previous months.
no gas as we have a multi fuel stove for heating, using logs at present but not much yet. Electric is down as we reset the immersion heater to come on less as fire is on a bit and it heats the water too. Will switch it off completely next week if colder as fire will be on more. If only we could adjust the direct debit with EON as easy😬.

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 01/11/2022 16:00

£214 for both, that's with the heating on, currently dd is 264 a month so I'm happy to keep the house warm this winter. I might need to rethink for next winter

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 16:03

Gosh I’ve no idea how we’ve managed to use 400kw of electricity. Seems like a massive amount compared to everyone else! This is a small (2 bed) modern flat..

Ilovetocrochet · 01/11/2022 16:03

I’ve gone from £97 dual fuel in a fixed tariff to £235 on the standard variable tariff. But based on my actual usage in previous 12 months and the credit I’ve built up ( £250) I reckon I should only be paying £175 per month.

I live on my own in a three bed bungalow and am not working so at home for part of each day. My heating has been on some evenings if I feel chilly when sitting down - have it set at 18 degrees from 8 am to 10 pm and boost it to 20 degrees when cold. I sometimes use a tumble dryer but only once a week for an hour if I cannot get washing dry outside.

Im not sure if I’m going to ask BG to reduce my dd or leave it high as we don’t know what will happen in April when the current financial package ends. Also last time I phone BG I was number 165 in the queue and gave up after almost an hour on hold!

singlemomof3 · 01/11/2022 16:05

For October for a 3 bed semi 1 adult 3 kids

Electric £63.99 for 253kwh
Gas £50.54 718kwh

Heating on when below 21 degrees

British Gas fixed for another 12 months I think

Yabado · 01/11/2022 16:17

My everyday electric £110 -£120 max for the month

average use of around 10- 12 kwh a day so roughly 250 kwh a month
Don’t stint on anything lights cooking hot water Tv washing machine is used daily
I use a ninja airfryer as well for cooking

I rarely use my tumble dryer even though ids a heat pump type and cheap to use

Gas £40 a month £16 of that is the SC
heating isn’t on properly it’s been a few hours here and there in the week but it’s not cold as the house is well insulated .

I’m on pre pay of 32.9 kwh for the electric
I find it much easier and it’s actually cheaper than the pay on demand bills - no idea why

I also have a dreaded hot tub and that cost a further £100 -£120 a month and although it’s on the same meter I prefer working it out separately what it cost as it’s something I can easily stop using if I need to this uses around 12kwh a day on top of my everyday usage
so overall I’m using around 22kwh a day

MichaelFabricantWig · 01/11/2022 16:25

298 kWh of electricity £55.38
560 kWh of gas £20.29

still to add on standing charge

been using as normal but not excessively as on a deal fixed until next October and have over £700 credit

WarblingEttie · 01/11/2022 16:28

We just pay the bill as it comes in

Do you mean instead of a DD? Does it cost more?

Auntieobem · 01/11/2022 16:31

£156 total for both, not taking into account the £66 refund. Not too scary just now (4 bed detached, heating not on much yet, lots of tumble dryer use)

girlmom21 · 01/11/2022 16:33

I'm not the poster you quoted but utility warehouse gave me a monthly quote but have just been charging me my usage, but they're taking it by DD (different amounts each month) so I'm still getting the reduced charges

Hooverphobe · 01/11/2022 16:35

Electric only far north of Scotland - £120 before the discount and I use the dishwasher/washing machine daily. The heating’s been on when needed, but just oil radiators, not central.

palygold · 01/11/2022 16:38

I get an estimate (I'm not asked to supply a reading and don't have a smart meter) every month, but I don't often check, so don't know this month as we pay quarterly not, and not by DD.
