So what are your energy bills this month?

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

what is average of home of 3 bed

Average is 2900kwh electric and 12000kwh gas.
www.britishgas.co.uk/energy/guides/average-bill.html

Read elsewhere that this is from April 2020 and electricity has come down, I think it was 6.5%, from April 2017. So it will be interesting if this is updated this April.

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/01/2023 15:52

Ignore previous post. Took it off gas ffs

Found last years reading from timehop as obv take a pic to see and send

why do they put meters in weird /hard places

annual E is 5126 or 4766 without spa
annual g is 14 368

what is average of home of 3 bed

we do have a spa but only in use June July aug sept weather depending and those months use an extra 2/3 a day so monthly 90 tops extra so 360 over the 4mths as a guide so wouid take electricity use to 4766

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/01/2023 09:30

I'm just me in a 1 bed flat - my last six months electric looks like this. No fishtanks or spa though... if i work out my annual use and triple it it'd be about 2400 kwh a year.

So what are your energy bills this month?

Pigsin it is and I don't get why, we all have a shower if not every day, every other day. I chose a smaller oven but it's still used pretty much every day, heating we don't use loads. I grew up without central heating and we only had it installed in this house 15 years ago, it gives me a raging headache so will always opt for my heated throw or an extra jumper first, we did use it a lot during the cold snap recently though.......I keep seeing story's about people with huge bills despite not using heating or appliances and being out at work all day (( im home all day )) and I don't disbelieve them, I've got family members in the same situation. But something must be going wrong somewhere, either from a faulty meter or their provider overcharging them.

I think you're right you know. I don't know what's going on but since Aprils price rise I'm using so much less in kWh, but for some reason they've still increased massively.
I contacted my provider and they said they can get someone to check the meters but if all is ok then I've a £65 charge.
Something is wrong somewhere there are so many people being hit with massive bills for very little usage.

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 18:52

I mean according to these smart meters I'm using double the amount of gas and electricity after I've cut down my when I know I'm not.

Have you worked out what you should be charged based on your unit rates and meter readings? If this matches what your bills say then I wouldn't have anyone out.

Make your mind up! One post says you're using much less in kWh, the next post says you're using double what you were. Both can't be true.

It's more than likely that you're using less than you were in kWh but more in ££.

creamwitheverything · 09/01/2023 19:16

I usually do my meter readings on the 18th of every month..forgot last month so submitted my reading to cover the 6 weeks ...gas and electric for 18th december to to 6 th jan for both was 424,00 so with the 2 x 66 pound payments it would have been horrific. I use mediclal equiptmet all night every night and no one other than me seems to give a toss about cutting down use so i just pay it.Fucking ridiculous in our house the lot of them

Yes, I don't get it. I also haven't heard of anyone getting hit with massive bills for very little usage. I mean, they are all massive compared with a year ago, but relatively, if you have low usage then you will have low bills.

Well gas is about 3.7 times higher than this time last year and electricity is about 2.5 times higher so you'd have to decrease your use substantially to avoid the bill going up.

I got that wrong because my bill lists the cost before the price cap discount is applied. Costs haven't gone up quite that much, but the theory's the same - they've not gone up just a couple of percent.

Obviously most people's bills are much higher. You said Something is wrong somewhere there are so many people being hit with massive bills for very little usage., I don't understand that. Why is anything wrong if the bills are already explained by the price rises? If you have very little usage then you aren't going to have a massive bill in comparison to others.

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 21:44

@pigsinoodies if you even bother to read it before getting shitty I said according to these meters.
I have massively cut down since April. Which means I would be using less kw. Not more.
Ffs.

I wasn't 'getting shitty' at all. Maybe you should learn to write what you actually mean.

Sorry, I confused you with @Unforgettablefire

Montague22 · 09/01/2023 22:12

We are over £1200 in credit. I’ve not turned the heating on yet 😂 too many buttons to press so I just don’t bother. It’s on a couple hours a day on timer.

@pigsinoodies I wrote exactly what I meant!!

You wrote "since Aprils price rise I'm using so much less in kWh". That implies that you've measured your usage (in kWh) and you've used less.

You go on to say "according to these smart meters I'm using double the amount of gas and electricity" - which, when taken in conjunction with your assertion that you've used less kWh, can only be read that despite using less kWh your costs have risen.

It now appears that what you actually meant was that despite doing your best to economise, your energy usage (in kWh) has actually increased according to your meter.

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 22:25

@Athenen0ctua I've checked and double checked and everything squares up according to the meters so there's no way I can argue it.
Last year my heating was on all the time, sometimes even in summer and I used half as many kw then according to the meters.
I've everything switched off, heating on for a few hours once in a blue moon when we had the cold snap I don't even have the tv on. Sit in my bedroom with an electric throw and little fairy lights. This has only been since I switched suppliers hence the reason I contacted them.

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 22:32

@pigsinoodies I'm not going to keep explaining to you you're not taking it in.
I've used less but according to the meters I haven't.

So you think you have used less energy in kWh but your meter readings are telling you that you have used more?

How much energy have you used in kWh and over what time period? You sound like you have tried to minimise energy usage so that should show in the energy usage.

We are low electrical users - about 100 kWh electricity a month. That's quite consistent.

Gas - obviously varies with the season - about 5000 kWh a year for gas. A lot of that is heating.

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 23:10

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/01/2023 22:38

I don't think so and there's the gas even if there was. I only really use my chargers, electric throw which costs pennies and led fairy lights.
I boil enough water for tea in the morning and at night. I don't even shower as much, that's just an attachment on the bath I've used for ages and I've stopped using my foodie which is the biggest guzzler I have. Hardly Hoover anymore when I used to hoover every day.
I'm going to change supplier I think it's just so strange.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/01/2023 23:11

How much electric in kwh are you actually using?
