Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

Dual fuel off an estimated bill £130 was £71 off a meter read bill last month.

Curlygirl06 · 01/11/2022 19:37

£135 ish for both, including vat and standing charge. Electric about £89, gas about £40 usage including standing charge. We have had visitors for a while and had the water heating on more (gas) and they had hair dryers ( I don't have one), so the usage was more than normal.
We cook with gas, heat the water with gas, have a dishwasher, washing machine, tumble dryer ( not used since April) fridge freezer, freezer, gas central heating (not used yet).
3 bed semi,2 adults, I work part-time, dh full time, no children at home.

BretonBlue · 01/11/2022 19:41

This is fascinating! £375 for dual fuel but we run two electric cars and did more miles than usual in October with half term day trips. We are moving to an off-peak electricity tariff shortly and although the daytime unit rate will be slightly higher, charging the cars and using as many appliances as possible overnight will likely save us quite a bit.

How on earth is everyone using so little electricity?! Or rather how are we using so much?! £200 on electricity and £57 on gas. Heating not on at all in October. We used 542kwh of electricity for the month.

DH has a hybrid which he charges at home and we don't have a special tariff for this, or a proper car charging point, he plugs the giant transformer thing in inside. No idea if this makes a difference.

Even without charging the car our lowest daily usage 9kwh.

I suppose you need to work out how much of that is car charging. I’m currently spending about £25 a week on diesel for the car.

zen1 · 01/11/2022 19:48

£188 for both with the discount.

IncompleteSenten · 01/11/2022 19:53

My bill is a bit confusing to me tonight. I'm having a dim moment so I'll just put it up then go cry in a corner before Googling how much kidneys sell for on the black market 😁

So jealous looking at the people with similar usage to us but are on fixed deals.

We've cut back on electric use (as much as feasible (we were always relatively careful) - less tumble drying and more slow cooker meals as opposed to putting oven on) and we've not had our heating on anywhere near as much for time of year as we have the wood burner on instead. So gas usage is just hot water, hob and UFH in kitchen/living area (which is controlled by a separate thermostat to all our other radiators).

2 adults, 3 kids. 4 bed. Approx 220sqm home. North Scotland. 1930's build (insulated as much as we can but still a bit leaky!). Normal usage and no electric vehicles. (just adding this as I find it useful to know this info when comparing with others).

294kwh electric - £110
958kwh gas - £103

We're with bulb. Just the default variable rate. Bar 4 days, the above bill all charged on the most recent capped rate rise.

Our DD is over £450 😩 (have a very healthy credit balance now but they think we'll be £750 a month gas in the cold months!! (I'll be keeping a watchful eye on that!)

Temporaryname158 · 01/11/2022 20:00

@Mealsonabudget

136KWh of electricity this month plus 25 p a day standing charge

231kwh of gas and 24p a day standing charge

i am a low user over all but the massive increase is cost and standing charges will get me soon!!

Mealsonabudget · 01/11/2022 16:03

Gosh I’ve no idea how we’ve managed to use 400kw of electricity. Seems like a massive amount compared to everyone else! This is a small (2 bed) modern flat..

Google will give you average uses for the country as a whole which will be accurate rather than comparing yourself with a random selection of posters who reply here

It's meaningless to make comparisons with individuals

daffodilandtulip · 01/11/2022 20:15

£47 gas
£67 electric

3 bedroom, 3 storey, WFH, teens with gadgets, no tumble drier, heating set at 18 day / 13 night so starting to flick on here and there a bit more.

I've only seen yearly usage figures, likely based on when energy was half the cost. This is October specific, it was warm his year and average usage is also likely to come down this winter compared to previous years.

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 01/11/2022 20:23

British Gas SVR
Gas £51 Water on 2 hours. Gas hob. No heating on yet.
Electric £129 . A couple of hours tumble drying, dishwasher.

Includes standing charge and vat

Paid monthly by variable DD. No credit or debit balances to worry about.
Money better off in our account than in BG!

emmathedilemma · 01/11/2022 20:28

£43.60 for both. Electricity off a smart meter and I submitted a gas meter reading (which was way under what they’ve been estimating). And I’ve had the heating on since the end of Sept!

Compared to last October, I've used 81kwh less electric this year. Used 160kwh more of gas though.

DPN · 01/11/2022 20:40

I'm dreading my next bill. I live at home with my mother but she never made any cutbacks with the electricity usage. For example she will always wash laundry loads at 60 degree. She won't ever drop the 40. She has the tumble dryer on every day to warm her clothes before putting them on and again at night time to warm her pyjamas. She wants to leave her bed room window open for air and then complains about the cold and counteracts it by putting on the heat. She puts on the heating and heats the water and if I am at home, sometimes I find there's enough hot water to bath an army. I think she's forgetting to turn things off.

This looks like my ScottishPower bill. Cannot for the life of me understand it.

@IncompleteSenten I can't make out the writing on your bills, sorry

I know - you're right. DH reckons petrol would be about £15 a day for his commute, so obviously electricity is much cheaper. I'm not being completely logical!!

MrsKrankyPants · 01/11/2022 21:01

Only have electric, no heating on yet. But still use the tumble dryer as needed.

Not scrimping on usage. Will put the heating when needs be, but haven't been cold enough.

So what are your energy bills this month?
morekidsthanhands · 01/11/2022 21:01

4 bed house 2 adults 3 kids
Electricity - 115 so 50ish after payment. Usually around 100 so pleased with that.
Gas - we pay a tenner a month now as in lots of credit- house really well insulated so haven't has the heating on yet. Actual usage is around 15 a month ish.

I6344 · 01/11/2022 21:03

£117 for both gas and electric (same as every month) and I'm in credit for now and hope it stays that way Smile

Linnet · 01/11/2022 21:06

For electric we have an old style pre payment meter and this past month we used £50 electric. I don’t know how many kWh we’ve used as I’ve never tracked those I just put money in for the month and that’s it. However I have now checked what the kWh are reading and I will check at the end of the month to see how much we’ve used.

For gas we used £41. We used 10 units in the month of October. I have a ridiculously huge amount of credit on my account and they keep trying to up my DD and I keep saying no. I was going to ask for some of the credit back as I don’t like that they are keeping hold of it. But I was working out what we used last year in this quarter on this years prices and have decided just to leave it there just in case.
we don’t have the heating on properly yet, have maybe had it in for an hour or so now and again to help dry washing but that’s it. We have a gas cooker so only really cooking and hot water that’s been using it.

WhoopItUp · 01/11/2022 21:08

£313 for a 5 bed house, 2 adults, 1 child. Heating on for a couple of hours in the morning and evening. For context, our bill for January 2021 was £330 and we used 5 times the amount of gas and electric that month as we did in October.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 01/11/2022 21:16

I'm with British gas, my last bill was £220, duel fuel for 3 months. So just over £70 a month for gas and electric......we pay off meter readings each quarter so a slightly, higher tariff.

We do have a heat pump dryer I try to avoid using and I have a shower most days. Our bills are a lot lower than most seem to be but we certainly aren't sat knitting by candlelight of an evening so not really sure why.

Dougieowner · 01/11/2022 21:17

Actual costs for Oct are £62 EL & £23 Gas (Inc standing charge).
Readings submitted at the end of the month (SM is a bit erratic so we do them manually).
4-Bed newbuild.
A bit of an increase on the previous month (as to be expected).
DD is £200, Eon had set it at £120 but we raised it a few months ago and have been building up a buffer for later on.
