Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

This is my usage from the last year. I changed suppliers at the end of October, you'll see how much it jumps up.
I came off my fix either in April or may, round about the time of the price increase and that's when I cut down.
Even my washer I fill it and put it on a 20 eco wash instead of the 60 I used to use.

Do you have the separate breakdowns for each fuel?

No just those graphs, the app is pretty reliable only pennies off if that.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/01/2023 23:34

Daft question, have you tried switching your fridge/freezer off for an hour/?an hour and a half and seeing what your background usage is? (It's fine for a short period as long as you keep it shut)
At some point mine went wonky and was using 1.6kwh a day on it's own last year.

Since i replaced it, my entire daily use is normally under 1.5kwh..

Funny you should mention the fridge freezer I think it's on its way out it keeps defrosting and freezing again. I don't know whether it's because the kitchens so cold, it's 9/10 degrees in my living room but the kitchen is colder.
But it's over 20 years old so I'm not sure.

That increase in gas is ridiculous.

Your fridge freezer being in a room below 10° will certainly not be helping, on thr eleven side of things at least.
If it keeps defrosting and refreezing it's surely not safe to keep food frozen..

That usage looks fine TBH

The electricity is low - typical annual usage is 2900 kWH (ours is about 1700 kWh) and gas is 12,900 kWh

If I read your data correctly, you've used 953 kWH electricity since April and 2069 kWh gas since April

Which is very low

Unforgettablefire · 09/01/2023 23:52

@cakeorwine it looks pretty low but look at that increase from October when I changed suppliers. I wasn't on a fix and cut right back. It should have gone down not up. Prices went up so I started using less yet the kw is showing an increase.

I think I'll just switch it off. I threw my food out and it's only on for the fridge but the kitchens cold enough to keep milk and cheese cool.
Thanks for the replies I appreciate them.

You are a low electricity user anyway, so it's not going to show too much in the electricity.

Gas wise - again you are a low user, but it's got colder in November and October.

You haven't got the data for October 21, Nov 21 and Dec 21 to compare to.

Unforgettablefire · 10/01/2023 00:17

@cakeorwine I'll see if I can find it I think I took screenshots before I left my previous supplier.
This year I didn't use my heating, not in November and I used it briefly when we had the cold snap. This is what's getting me it jumped up in October/November and I hadn't used it. It looks like I've been using heating and I hadn't. I live alone as well so I can't even blame anyone.

Athenen0ctua · 10/01/2023 06:26

@Unforgettablefire It looks odd that your electric has doubled, unless you have any winter only type usage like a heater or tumble dryer. Gas looks normal, even an hour here or there of heating, if the boiler is on that whole hour heating a cold house, means a big jump. You need the same months last year to compare.

user1634987 · 10/01/2023 06:37

I have no clue, no information on BG website, we have SMETS1 meter which is allegedly giving readings, no smart gas meter as won't risk one of those as not sure if electric one is sending readings properly, if I had the time or the inclination I could work it out myself but bill for this last six months is due soon so I guess I will find out, we pay £220 a month DD, so may have to up it a bit

Athenen0ctua · 10/01/2023 07:19

@Unforgettablefire This is my October to December gas and I have low usage. The heating has been timed to come on for two hours in the evening since mid November. Boost 1hr used in the first half of November most days. Extra hours on the weekends of the cold snap and over Christmas. If you truly used no heating at all in November then the jump is odd, did you put it on sporadically?

So what are your energy bills this month?
Unforgettablefire · 10/01/2023 08:27

@Athenen0ctua no not at all in October or November, just December when we had the cold snap, I put it on twice for about 5/6 hours and it cost me roughly £8/9 each time. Other times in the cold snap just an hour or just over the odd morning because the house was bitter and I could smell damp. I got my electric throw because I knew what was coming.
I've a tumble drier but used it once to fluff up a down coat I washed when it dried.
I haven't any debt I was prepay when I switched. The supplier told me I'd be on a credit meter for a few days then switched over but it didn't happen, so I kept ringing and they gave me all different reasons for not switching me back to prepay, the last time I rang the lady said my meters weren't suitable for prepay and I'd need a meter change, but sorry it won't be until January.
Got an email the other day saying hello just to let you know you need a meter change for prepay but sorry we've no appointments!
This has been going on since October.

Athenen0ctua · 10/01/2023 12:53

@Unforgettablefire Any frost protection setting that could be set to kick in at a relatively high temperature like 10 degrees or higher? Something that would have made it kick in in November? That's all I can think of if you are sure you didn't put it on at all.
