So what are your energy bills this month?

Gas - £101.61 for using 82 units. Haven’t even put the heating on yet, we do however have a gas hob and I’m assuming hot water?? Have cut down on the DCs baths (twice a week now). But that’s up £40 from last month with a similar usage.

electricity £149.39 this month, up from £88.61 last month but we did use 150kw of energy more (I’m assuming from the heated clothes horse I used in an effort to prevent condensation, won’t be using that again!

we are with octopus on a flexible Tarif.

ouch 😩

Gas: 274 kWh costing £36.46 (including standing charges)
Electricity: 341 kWh costing £130.31 (including standing charges)

Gives a total of £166.77 minus gov fuel payment of £66 meaning we will pay £100.77.

We pay usage each month (by DD) so we pay less in summer and more in winter rather than balancing it out over the year.

Energyworrier · 01/11/2022 18:00

According to my monitor my daily usage of electric is running at £7/day, and I was away for 2 weeks, with most things switched off and it was still hitting almost £6/day.
I only use gas for central heating, which we've not put on yet and for heating water (30mins 4x per week) and the hob, which we don't use daily. I'm not sure what that will cost for a month as it's difficult to get to and it doesn't send info to my monitor anymore.

Energyworrier · 01/11/2022 18:01

Forgot to add..... so £217 just in electric for a month.

I get an estimate (I'm not asked to supply a reading and don't have a smart meter) every month, but I don't often check, so don't know this month as we pay quarterly not, and not by DD.

You can still do a reading over the phone rather than relying on estimates. Most electric companies will have an automated service if you don’t have an internet account. You could be in for a bit of a shock if you leave it too long.

ShoesEverywhere · 01/11/2022 18:03

£22 so £88 without the payment. 4 bedroom g2 listed terraced house, have put the heating on a few times so far.

Athenen0ctua · 01/11/2022 18:13

Gas £20.09
Electric £40.83

WireSkills · 01/11/2022 18:13

Scottish Power here. October was £77 for gas (654kwh) and £92 for electric (228kwh), so £169 in total. I am assuming this includes the daily standing charge as otherwise we're overpaying! We pay £220 per month by DD and have built up a sizeable credit balance over the summer months.

I know a lot of people are just paying for what they use each month, but I do prefer paying a fixed amount per month, then I'll argue for a refund once winter is over if we're still in credit.

We have the heating on for an hour in the morning and evening, but controlled by the thermostat, so it doesn't fire up if it's warm enough. DH works from home so we have IT equipment going all day, then obviously dinner in the evening and TV.

Winter is a bit concerning though, as even last year our January bill was £480! We may have a sizable credit, but at prices even higher than that, it won't last long!

141mum · 01/11/2022 18:18

£465 for both for a month, no heating on yet either, I was paying about £280, it’s more than our mortgage

Whycanineverever · 01/11/2022 18:22

Not had bill yet but based on my calculations about £70. It was £58 until the 26th of the month.

3 bed mid terrace with 3 of us at home.

So about £3 after rebate.

Theraffarian · 01/11/2022 18:37

just popped Octobers usage in and the bills come back as £41.14 electric and £21.88 gas . We haven’t needed the heating on here yet , one full time working from home , gas cooker , washing has mostly still be drying outside so tumble drier only once or twice a week . I was surprised how low it was though . Still keeping our DD at £170 to see us over winter and beyond as who knows how it will pan out when the government assistance stops .

We had similar usage for October and our dd is £90 (£23 with the rebate).

This is my October bill with usage. 4 bed detached in Scotland with 2 adults and 2 teens.

HateTheFuckingWorld · 01/11/2022 18:43

September's was 138kwh electric £61
148kwh gas £23 before the government discount. Me and two kids SVR

I’m with bulb been told we are moving to octopus. Can we choose or look around does anyone know? Bulb collapsed a few months back so been on their standard tariff. It’s seems expensive but the £66 has helped a bit

They will all be offering the standard variable rate so it won't matter who you're with. I like Octopus and haven't had any issues with them

arewe · 01/11/2022 18:52

With British Gas for October: Gas 225kwh, £24.80 and Electricity 167 kwh £58.
Little sh*s still wanted to raise our DD to £230, but I had none of it and made them leave it at £130pm.
Did not put heating this year yet. Have solar panels, which helps the bills I assume.

I'm with Octopus and it always takes them a couple of days to finalise my gas, it's currently on my balance history as held charges. I don't know why this happens if yours comes up straight away!

Is this with or without standing charges?

dementedpixie · 01/11/2022 19:05

@Athenen0ctua Mine usually takes a few days but for some reason came up right away this time. Last month took about 5 days I think.

It happens to mine too sometimes - usually if I've used more than the last period.

GoodnightJude1 · 01/11/2022 19:08

£382 for gas and electric. Not had heating on yet. House is 5 bed detached and there are 6 of us here so probably about right. Approx £120 more than this time last year.

NairobiGal · 01/11/2022 19:10

£60 but I use a Launderette and thankfully have a wood burner

flippetyflaps · 01/11/2022 19:12

£320 for electric. We are not on mains gas, we have an oil tank.

It's happened every single month since at least May, it's quite annoying. They know what I've used as it's there in held charges, don't know why they insist on reviewing it. It's only low amounts too.

Notjusta · 01/11/2022 19:22

How on earth is everyone using so little electricity?! Or rather how are we using so much?! £200 on electricity and £57 on gas. Heating not on at all in October. We used 542kwh of electricity for the month.

DH has a hybrid which he charges at home and we don't have a special tariff for this, or a proper car charging point, he plugs the giant transformer thing in inside. No idea if this makes a difference.

Even without charging the car our lowest daily usage 9kwh.

Livedandlearned · 01/11/2022 19:25

Gas £25 electric £60. 10.39 p/kWh 28.48p standing charge, 33.97p/kWh 49.17p standing charge. Eon next flex.
