Oh yes. I do hope Sunak doesn't offer him anything in the name of party unity.

Also Braverman. That woman should never be allowed anywhere near government ever again.

That's a relief. If Boris had come back, it would have made this country look ridiculous.

I'm wary of Sunak, but at least he's a highly educated, intelligent man (he got a first at Oxford). It baffles me when people complain about our PMs being Oxford graduates. Why? Oxford is one of the oldest, greatest universities in the world. Shelley, Oscar Wilde, Ruskin, Walter Pater, W H Auden, T S Eliot, Richard Dawkins, etc all studied there. We're lucky to live in a country whose leaders have been educated at such a place. What would people prefer? An ignorant narcissist like Trump, who has never read a serious book in his life?

It baffles me when people complain about our PMs being Oxford graduates. Why?

There are several arguments. One is that the Oxford graduates we have a certain training which is good for being elected but less good for running the country. Many of the politicians studied PPE, which some say give the impression of knowledge and verbal and written fluency, without the depth of knowledge and attention to detail needed. Second, focusing on Oxford as a great university means that more talented people are overlooked. Do we really believe that Liz Truss and Jacob Rees Mogg are the cream of the crop?

Aconitum · 23/10/2022 23:18

If we had a GE and Labour won, how do you think you would be better off and if you were, how do you think they would pay for it?

Lapland123 · 23/10/2022 23:18

Hopefully Rishi by tomorrow then ....
I really want a Labour government to invest in public services, but Rishi is certainly best the tories have

and dare I say it, he’s also quite dishy, is Rishi

Sharming · 23/10/2022 23:22

For the posters feigning surprise that racism is a factor...

What do you suggest was the reason that the Conservative party membership chose the eminently unqualified, demonstrably stupid Liz Truss over the more experienced, sensible, capable Rishi Sunak?

The Tory party member who called in to Sangita Myska's show - see my previous post with the video link- told us VERY clearly why he wouldn't want Rishi. He's not 'English' enough.

Ie Trinity college , Cambridge with 5 gcses ,and 2 A levels a B and a C

I don't think grades counted for Cambridge at that time, did they? I think it was all down to the entrance exam and the interview. I knew someone who got in that way despite getting two Ds, and he subsequently went on to get a 2:1.

Closing tax loopholes, windfall tax?

greenhousegal · 23/10/2022 23:26

Barack O'Sunak.

Hawkins001 · 23/10/2022 23:29

Everyone take out your bibles, we need prayers for boris, boris boris

Abhannmor · 23/10/2022 23:32

Closing tax loopholes and offshore nonsense. But ..Gordon Brown was on about that before he was Chancellor. Believe it when you see it.

IstillloveU · 23/10/2022 23:33

We don't need Sunak to understand how the other half lives. We need him to calm the fucking markets and make some money (or at least stop haemorrhaging it) so that some other dickheads he anoints as Health Secretary and Chancellor can then understand the little people and maybe, in an ideal world, try to make life bearable for the next 5 years. It wouldn't matter if we had Mother Teresa in charge if we've got no money and no more access to borrowing!
It has to be him. Nobody else has a fucking goddamned clue.

He doesn't need money or power. He's not as needy as the others. I hope he'll get on with the job and that we somehow survive the next few years. He doesn't appear to be power hungry and he doesn't have anything to prove really.

I can just see NHS being privatised asap now, wasn't that what he was quietly considering in his previous role?

Barack O'Sunak.

Comparing a black man, who was born in 1961 when many black people were banned from attending certain schools and colleges, raised by a single mother, an academic, who went on to a landslide election and became the most powerful man on Earth, with an Indian origin man who had two parents and is set to be made leader by a 102 people....to govern a country slipping down the G7 by the hour......how very white of you.

Unfortunately, the NHS will be privatised as this will be a provisos to securing a trade deal with the US.

Doubtmyself · 23/10/2022 23:43

IstillloveU · 23/10/2022 23:35

What a wonderful institution.

Oxford had an entrance exam, that was scrapped along with Cambridge's as it favoured public schools who swotted pupils for the exams, while bright kids at state school had teachers who didn't.

Once you passed entrance you were offered minimum grades to enter usually, i.e 2 E's.

greenhousegal · 23/10/2022 23:44

@Doubtmyself

It was meant as a positive comment towards those non racists in the Tory party who would select the first non white PM. Just like Obama was the first black US president. I'm well aware of their backgrounds.

But knee jerk away.

So, despite being distinctly unre n ar I able his o and a levels, you truly believe he aced his entrance exam and interview, and being heir to the throne had nothing to do with it!!?
I've got a bridge for sale...

I'm with you on that! Not to mention the fact that he's a backstabbing bastard who got us in this mess. If he'd worked with Boris, not been a slimy little traitor, we wouldn't be in this mess.

None of them could work with johnson which is why they were resigning like rats from the sinking ship the UK currently is. Short memories some people have....

chaosmaker · 24/10/2022 06:16

Hbh17 · 23/10/2022 22:32

Does nobody appreciate the drama that we'll be missing without Boris? Love him or hate him, he certainly makes life more interesting.
He has perhaps realised that the best time to return would be after a 2024 GE, when his party has to rebuild after a bad loss. That would surely be better for him...... and meanwhile he can earn some proper money. Win win.

'May you live in interesting times' is a curse. The majority would love some boring times that don't make them destitute.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/10/2022 06:20

It’s true that Oxbridge entrance used to be via their own exam and interview, followed by a 2E offer if you passed muster. But they certainly expected you to do a lot better than 2 Es and from all I’ve heard, would give you a hard time if you didn’t.

derxa · 24/10/2022 07:30

Sunak was also found guilty of a criminal offence and fined under partygate scandal 🙄
