Just that, pulled back from the edge hopefully for now

Are you joking about Rishi. He has no understanding of how ordinary people live. His solution to the wastefulness of his covid largesse was to tax working people 1.25% more NI to pay for it all. He spunked more money than Truss.

No he didn't and the NI rise was a good thing, if you want a better NHS & was of course a Johnson flagship policy - remember he said he'd fixed Social Care with that extra tax?

Truss has cost the country almost a 100 billion, thats the estimated increase in Govt borrowing costs caused by the rises in Gilt Yields, not too mention house repossessions and family break up because of debt.

She should be in jail but instead gets a fat allowance for the rest of her life.

@motherofthelittlescreamingone
Tory policies are impoverishing millions and wrecking public services. I’d far rather they stop getting on with the job they’ve been doing the past 12 years.

travellinglighter · 23/10/2022 22:47

Redrry · 23/10/2022 21:21

He didn't, he was talking about redirecting funds into poorer rural communities.

He was talking about pulling funds from labour voting communities into Tory voting Hemel Hempstead. Hardly a beacon of poverty.

He’s pulled out because he didn’t have the numbers.
What a dickhead.

Exactly that.

Sunak is the one whoi fucked the economy! What short memories people have!

No he didn't

motherofthelittlescreamingone · 23/10/2022 22:49

@theworldhas

I don't disagree. I think RS will lose to KS, but in terms of which tory leader I don't care that Rishi is a billionaire and I think he is the best of a bad bunch.

theworldhas · 23/10/2022 22:50

@walkingonsunshinekat

multiple studies put the cost of Brexit to the British economy at £200 billion + (so far of course). Perhaps the whole government which put Brexit into law should also be in jail.

ButterflyAi · 23/10/2022 22:51

Yes, the thought of Rees Mogg being bum-rushed to the back benches is a glorious thing. He really is thoroughly repellent. It will be lovely to have him hidden away again.

Obviously, we need a GE and a Labour government, but in the meantime, just having relatively normal humans as opposed to ultra-right, barking mad, loathsome loons on the front bench will be a relief.

Rishi doesn't even know how to pay with a bank card. That's how out of touch with the real world he is.

So relieved... though I agree with my husband though that he didn't pull out. He didn't get 100 MPs and doesn't want to admit it. Boris never does 'the right thing' for anyone but himself.

Sunak at least shows some signs of being able to 'read the room' of public feeling compared to other Tories and at least attempt to respond appropriately. The downside is he's the only one who might possibly allow them to win again but I suspect forces will be sufficiently against him that it's not a goer.

overtaxedunderling · 23/10/2022 22:57

@walkingonsunshinekat
Have you taken a look at that extra NI in the DHSC annual accounts?
Very little got spent.

If Kwasi hadn't stuffed up, we wouldn't know that 2008's Casino Bankers had become 2022's Pension Fund Mismanagers - maybe until it was too late.

Dear me, and he so much in need of space to recline.Grin

Weefreetiffany · 23/10/2022 23:02

Make Rishi look like a good choice by threatening Johnson. Same ploy as the “make petrol prices hit £2 so the target £1.60 seems reasonable. Or threaten 5k fuel rises so the eventual 3k doesn’t seem as bad… classic Tory move at this point. 🤮

rainingsnoring · 23/10/2022 23:02

@ButterflyAi 'Yes, the thought of Rees Mogg being bum-rushed to the back benches is a glorious thing. He really is thoroughly repellent. It will be lovely to have him hidden away again.'

This is the only good thing about it. Plus maybe Nadine will disappear too.

Rishi is a greedy and arrogant man who will help the bankers and happily play the austerity card for everyone else.

twelly · 23/10/2022 23:03

I am pleased he has dropped out but fear Penny Moudant stands a chance and I feel she is worse than Boris

LaGioconda · 23/10/2022 23:05

upinaballoon · 23/10/2022 21:22

This evening, maybe on Andrew Neill's programme, I have heard someone suggest that NOW was just a bit too soon for the BJ comeback, so rule it out now but don't completely rule it out of a possibility in the future.

😑

You have to suspect that he hopes that, between them, he and Truss have trashed the party's prospects so much that they can't win the next election, Sunak will have to fall on his sword, and he'll have another go then.

Lonelycrab · 23/10/2022 23:08

Thats quite a lot of worse that she’s got to surpass if you look honestly at Johnson.
He holds the mantle of worst.

ButterflyAi · 23/10/2022 23:11

Will PM get all of BJ's votes? I've got my doubts that she'll get over 100 to go on the ballot.

If she does, the membership will vote for her. They really don't want Rishi.

That's a relief. If Boris had come back, it would have made this country look ridiculous.

I'm wary of Sunak, but at least he's a highly educated, intelligent man (he got a first at Oxford). It baffles me when people complain about our PMs being Oxford graduates. Why? Oxford is one of the oldest, greatest universities in the world. Shelley, Oscar Wilde, Ruskin, Walter Pater, W H Auden, T S Eliot, Richard Dawkins, etc all studied there. We're lucky to live in a country whose leaders have been educated at such a place. What would people prefer? An ignorant narcissist like Trump, who has never read a serious book in his life?

Oxford is also the university that has produced the four worst Prime Ministers of all time, as demonstrated over the last 12 years. I must say, if I taught at Oxford I would be seriously worried about where we were going wrong.

TomBradysLeftKneecap · 23/10/2022 23:14

I'm just laughing at this entire pantomime and wondering if Charles will refuse to meet the Kiss of Royal Death, Truss, before she leaves. 👻

ButterflyAi · 23/10/2022 23:15

Brexit does that every single day tbf.

Babyroobs · 23/10/2022 21:49

Glad he's pulled out. He probably realised the shit he was going to have to deal with was just too much for him.

I think Peston is right, he discovered that no-one who actually knew what they were doing was ready to serve under him. He clearly never understood that those who said back in July that they couldn't work with such a dishonest piece of scum actually meant what they said, because in their shoes he would have had no problem in doing a total U-turn. Mind you, it must be pretty embarrassing for people like Zahawi who conveniently forget their concerns about his integrity and came out in support.
