Just that, pulled back from the edge hopefully for now

Now if only the MPs who supported him would do the honourable thing and resign too. Anyone who thought Boris was the answer shouldn't be allowed in parliament.

IMO people won’t forget what Sunak has done when voting in the next GE. He basically ousted the PM who the people had voted for sending us into chaos. If he hadn’t done that then Truss would never have got in and the markets wouldn’t have reacted so badly. He also sat back and went along with all the shenanigans during covid times….and is now smugly stepping back in to claim his prize, without a care in the world for the people who lost out on mortgages recently from what I can see.

Like it or not Boris is still popular with many conservative voters. By opting for Sunak the tories have now absolutely guaranteed a labour win at the next GE. I suppose they have probably just bought themselves a bit more time to find new jobs.

@Advocat20

that's what I said earlier, but you said it better.

Lonelycrab · 23/10/2022 22:32

I don't think anyone is actually suggesting Sunak would be a good PM are they?

No it’s broken arm vs broken leg territory really, but on the other hand, Johnson as pm could have seen a bunch of properly wrong people come to the fore. Glad that’s not happening.

Hbh17 · 23/10/2022 22:32

Does nobody appreciate the drama that we'll be missing without Boris? Love him or hate him, he certainly makes life more interesting.
He has perhaps realised that the best time to return would be after a 2024 GE, when his party has to rebuild after a bad loss. That would surely be better for him...... and meanwhile he can earn some proper money. Win win.

CockingASnook · 23/10/2022 22:32

The national interest is having a general election now. The Tory party has put a pillow over the face of parliamentary democracy and is snuffing it out. The only saving grace of Sunak is that the far-right, libertarian freaks like Coffey, Patel, Braverman will be on the backbenches.

theworldhas · 23/10/2022 22:34

It really is vital that the Tories get voted out ASAP

ButterflyAi · 23/10/2022 22:34

BJ and his camp were lying about the votes to try to gain momentum. In other words, he was lying again, from the off, willing the world to form into the shape of his lies. He lies like other people breathe.

Thank fuck he's gone. Now a GE please!

And your justification for saying he triggered the crisis?

lightisnotwhite · 23/10/2022 22:36

Having a very rich PM is good though? Rich people respect other rich people and rich people hold all the power. Hopefully there will be some confidence that Rushi can sort out the countries finances. He doesn’t come across as a megalomaniac either.

colddayinhell · 23/10/2022 22:37

Sunak is clearly phenomenally bright. Brown was too but Sunak is probably brighter than most other politicians.

Lol.

Bluekerfuffle · 23/10/2022 21:42

Bummer. I think he’s slightly more in touch with the world all of us peasants have to live in than Sunak will ever be.

Sunak has far more humble roots than Johnson. His mother a pharmacist, his father a GP, who emigrated to the U.K. in the 1960s. He may live a wealthy lifestyle now and have benefitted from private school but his birth family got where they are on merit, not inheritance and titles.

theworldhas · 23/10/2022 22:38

Honestly you flatter the lying floppy haired clown too much. He left a few months ago the most hated PM in history. The economy is sinking, the middle is getting progressively worse off, the poorest 20% can’t make ends meet. But, hey at least Brexit Got Done. They will lose and deservedly so whoever is captaining the Titanic. The Tories have gutted this country.

Loveatortie · 23/10/2022 22:38

I just hope Sunak buys some new suits if he is going to be appearing more, again. The ones he wears make him look like he is near the end of summer term and his parents don't want to fork out on new uniform. Or it shrunk in the wash.

crosshatching · 23/10/2022 22:39

I don't understand why people think Johnson might be playing a long game - he has to keep his seat at the next election. Why on earth was he on holiday anyway when Parliament isn't in recess? I'd be furious if I was in his constituency.

Nope. I want interesting in a story or film. Not running the country. Remember Major. Dull as fuck but everything was vaguely ok.

paintitallover · 23/10/2022 22:39

People aren't fooled by Boris so much these days. They expect spin.

MrsSkylerWhite · 23/10/2022 22:39

He’s pulled out because he didn’t have the numbers.
What a dickhead.

Clingfilm · 23/10/2022 22:40

Thank christ. It was genuinely getting me down!

motherofthelittlescreamingone · 23/10/2022 22:40

I'm not bothered that RS's wife is a billionaire (his FIL seems to be quite a good egg). I think she should have paid the tax voluntarily, but I otherwise don't care. No tory is going to abolish the non dom exemption.

I'd rather that RS focused on the job rather than tapping up donors to pay for gold wallpaper, tbh.

VeniVidiWeeWee · 23/10/2022 22:40

@donquixotedelamancha don

"If she gets the nomination there is a very high chance she'll win because racism."

How am I misunderstanding your pp? You are saying racism will be involved.

theworldhas · 23/10/2022 22:41

He may live a wealthy lifestyle now and have benefitted from private school but his birth family got where they are on merit, not inheritance and titles.

but from that interview with him as a young man his parents unfortunately didn’t make him a very rounded person, despite their own more humble beginnings. Regardless - whether the idiocy of austerity, selling off industry, privatisation , Brexit - Thatcherite Tory policies have brought the country to its knees and millions into poverty. More of the same is not an option.

theworldhas · 23/10/2022 22:42

nah, there are millions of idiots who would have voted for his loveable buffoon act once again in 2024. I’m relieved they won’t get the chance.

And let’s take the positives - JRM and Nadine matching straight back to the back benches!

Oh now that is actually the silver lining in this shambles!

LoisLane66 · 23/10/2022 22:44

I'm not a fan of Sunak OR his brother in arms.
Mark my words, there'll be regrets.

justwondering123456 · 23/10/2022 22:45

Good; I thought it was so idiotic with how much self-importance he travelled back from his holiday, planning on applying for the same job he lost because of having no integrity and being dishonest.

I hope he and Carrie disappear from public life forever.
