Just that, pulled back from the edge hopefully for now

I wonder if those who are delighted at this news will feel the same once Sunak implements his plan for the biggest cuts in public spending we have ever seen ? Sometimes you should be careful what you wish for !

I was sort of thinking that and trying not to. For the moment lets just be glad he hasn't got what he wanted.

I'm not that keen on Sunak but given the choice I would have had him rather than Truss and definitely rather have him than Johnson.

Why is Johnson having all these holidays when he should be doing his job, being an MP.

Cos he's a lazy arse maybe?

Will Rishi Sunak be PM after he's been to see the king? I know the end of the week was mentioned but can it be before the end of the week if Liz Truss and King Charles are free?

Well Truss's ideas went down so well didn't they?

It may not be Sunak, now BJ has gone, more votes may go to PM, unless she pulls out we won't know until tomorrow afternoon

As if the other two would not also make cuts

Imnotswallowingthat · 23/10/2022 21:29

Anyway, it’s jumping the gun to assume it’s Sunak. If Johnson’s supporters switch their allegiance and nominate Mordaunt then she will have the required number and it’ll be a membership vote between the two of them.

TicketToRideFan · 23/10/2022 21:29

Does it automatically mean Sunak? Or might all Johnson’s supporters head over to Mordaunt?

Anon778833 · 23/10/2022 21:30

Oh thank god. We don’t need to be any more of a laughing stock.

First time he’s ever pulled out.

😂😂😂

Good thinking, I reckon you might be right. I wonder how his constituents feel about having a lazy arse MP. I mean mine isn't wonderful and I didn't vote for him but he does seem to make an effort and he did call for Johnson to resign so he's not totally useless.

I'm not happy it's likely to be Sunak because of Sunak but because he's not Boris. I'm also happy it's going to piss off the racists among the tory party members, of which there seem to be many ...I thought the LBC interviewer did very well with this one: uk.news.yahoo.com/lbc-sangita-myska-shuts-down-caller-who-says-rishi-sunak-is-not-british-154303652.html

Sunak is the least worst option, that’s all - I don’t see widespread delight at the prospect, but Johnson would have been horrendous.

Second. He withdrew for Theresa May as well. That's it though.

Not to the extent that he is planning. Wait and see. Hopefully Mordaunt now gets Johnson’s backers to nominate her and it might not be cut and dried yet.

Think you’ve taken it too much in the political sense 😉

PermanentTemporary · 23/10/2022 21:32

Aw, I was just posting on that delicious thread claiming Johnson was deffo going to be PM tomorrow and it was deleted [shame]

I don't think I'm going to enjoy Sunak, but he's a sane choice and shows some vestigial respect for reality. I assume Hunt will stay in as Chancellor for now? I'm hoping Sunak will bring back a range of views into the cabinet at least.

This evening Matthew Paris said that the problem in this country is not Truss + Kwarteng. It is the fact that we are living beyond our means. He said that whether the PM is BJ, RS or Keir Starmer, that person has got to steer us for several years through unpleasant circumstances.

Zib · 23/10/2022 21:33

Thank goodness

Lonelycrab · 23/10/2022 21:33

Turns out you won’t be back then, your not the Terminator, you’re not Churchill and you’re certainly not the messiah either. So piss off and please don’t come back anymore, for all our sakes.

vodkaredbullgirl · 23/10/2022 21:33

tfft Smile

maximist · 23/10/2022 21:33

The thing is that Boris saying something usually means that he'll do the exact opposite....
