A takeaway once a week?

MsMiaWallace · 23/10/2022 09:07

Does anyone else have on average one takeaway a week?

We have fallen into the routine of this, Sat night (if I'm not at work) Indian takeaway & wine.
For me & DH Food lasts us 2 days £27.

Yes, it's a night off for me. And I deserve a night off cooking once a week!

Basecamp · 23/10/2022 11:29

Used to have way too many. 2-3 times a week.

Have stopped now as it was such an unhealthy habit for me, I always gorged myself too.

MintJulia · 23/10/2022 11:32

No, partly because of the cost but also because the closest is about 5 miles and too much hassle.

Instead, we have pizza night, two frozen supermarket pizzas, garlic bread, I make a salad and some dressing. Works out about£3.30 😋Bargain!

SilverGlitterBaubles · 23/10/2022 11:38

Yes take away one night at the weekend. If money is tight and we want to be healthier we knock it on the head for a while. It's a nice treat and a break from the routine of cooking.

Runningintolife · 23/10/2022 11:38

We generally keep it to once a month, and the other Fridays we have things like fajitas, nachos or homemade curry at home or dh and I go for a drink and share a pizza at a local place. TBH I prefer to eat simple home cooked healthier stuff but I fit in with the family.

FrownedUpon · 23/10/2022 11:41

Yes most weeks we’ll get a takeaway. Why not-it’s a nice treat & we can afford it. We have some amazing takeaways near us.

whynotwhatknot · 23/10/2022 11:42

once a month usually unless its a special occasion

SilverGlitterBaubles · 23/10/2022 11:43

SIL is very scathing of take aways being a waste of money yet she buys coffees and lunch every day at Pret, sometimes their porridge too. I take a packed lunch and rarely buy take away coffees. People have different priorities I guess.

Lilacsunflowers · 23/10/2022 11:44

No

It's much cheaper (and just as nice) to get M&S or Waitrose 'easy to cook' meals.

caringcarer · 23/10/2022 11:45

Once every week and occasionally, ok often, twice a week. My mobility is really poor and I struggle to stand at cooker long enough to work. DH is veggie so won't be cook meat. Also sadly he has to pick up slack with cleaning and childcare now too. Always a Chinese Tuesday sometimes an Indian at end of week too. Chinese cost £40 for 4 people. Indian cost a bit less £36 for 4 people because 2 share generous portion of rice. Before my back was bad takeaway was only about once a month and I do enjoy cooking.

Lilacsunflowers · 23/10/2022 11:46

The replies have me wondering how some takeaways are so cheap though! Here (suburb of london) for two adults you would pay at least £20 for fish and chips and at least £40 for Indian/Chinese.

Same here! For that price I can get luxury foods from Waitrose or M&S...!

NCFT0922 · 23/10/2022 11:46

Yep, every Saturday night.

RewildingAmbridge · 23/10/2022 11:49

We didn't then during lock down started, then the habit stayed for a while. I put on a fair amount of weight, so we stopped and the weight came off. I'd prefer to go out to a restaurant once a month than get a takeaway every week

Heyahun · 23/10/2022 12:01

We go out instead even if it’s lunch or brunch or something and we have to take the baby

take aways aren’t worth it

Ilovesandwiches · 23/10/2022 12:05

yes I probably have a McDonald’s once a week which may either be by going into the store or having it delivered. That sounds awful written down oops! I’m in my 20s living at home. I don’t have any children and tend to sort my own meals rather than eat with my family due to different schedules etc.
I don’t really get other takeaways very often, maybe the occasional subway or if we get a Chinese or Indian as a family.
I think it’s sort of the way of the world now, it’s too convenient.

Darbs76 · 23/10/2022 12:21

No it would work out very expensive

MulberryMoon · 23/10/2022 12:23

We did during lockdown as a treat, but usually less often. About once a month maybe

IncessantNameChanger · 23/10/2022 12:24

Not anymore with 4 kids, it gets too expensive but we have worked out an oder that feeds all of us for under £40. It's more like every five weeks and I miss it!

Ideally I'd have takeaway every two weeks if money was no issue

Tisfortired · 23/10/2022 12:28

Usually yes on a Friday night, Indian or Chinese. Sometimes we’ll get it just the two of us, or sometimes we’ll involve DS9 and get a Pizza Hut (his favourite) or a McDonald’s/KFC. If we have other plans in the week that involve eating out we drop it.

I have noticed the cost of takeaway, our favourite Indian in particular has sky rocketed in price, our usual order used to be in the region of £27/28 and is now a tenner more if we don’t have a discount to use so is getting less justifiable.

SpookyWookyBoo · 23/10/2022 12:32

Summersummersummertime81 · 23/10/2022 11:06

It varies but not every week. The replies have me wondering how some takeaways are so cheap though! Here (suburb of london) for two adults you would pay at least £20 for fish and chips and at least £40 for Indian/Chinese. Think that puts me off having them more frequently.

I'm in Dublin hence the €50 pricetag.
Saying that we got a lot.
3 mains,rice salt n chilli chips,chicken balls.
We got the chicken wings and prawn crackers free.

XAQ · 23/10/2022 12:37

I eat out/get takeaways a lot. I find cooking difficult.

Whistlesandbell · 23/10/2022 12:41

Yes once a week and eat out a few times a week too.

Blanketpolicy · 23/10/2022 12:44

We used to have a chinese or Indian one night at the weekend, but due to a combination of prices for the Indian rocketing (last one was around £50 for 3 meals, 2 rice, 2 bread and a shared starter - and the meat portions are not great either) and ds working PT or out in evenings we treat ourselves to a nice steak from the butchers more often instead.

Usually have a Chinese takeaway (portions are huge) once every 2-3 weeks now, and Indian meal rarely.

CirreltheSquirrel · 23/10/2022 12:45

We almost never get takeaways, I usually prefer my own cooking in the evenings. But we do eat lunch out at cafes - usually on a Friday because we both WFH that day, and at the weekend while we're out for the day.

Bemyclementine · 23/10/2022 12:48

No, it's not something I've ever got in the habit of doing. i live about 25 minutes drive from town so cba to pick one up and many don't deliver. Also, it's just me and 2 young dc, so doesn't seem worth it
