A takeaway once a week?

Does anyone else have on average one takeaway a week?

We have fallen into the routine of this, Sat night (if I'm not at work) Indian takeaway & wine.
For me & DH Food lasts us 2 days £27.

Yep, 1-2 times a week for us. Used to be 4 times but focussed more on home cooked meals when DS started weaning.

needthiswilderness · 23/10/2022 10:17

Yes, loads. 2-3 times a week. We live in area with lots of truly incredible restaurants within about 0.5 mile radius and don’t eat out much cos it’s no fun with small children.. thank heaven for takeaways then! I love good food but don’t enjoy cooking so they are ideal for me 😁

Mrsmch123 · 23/10/2022 10:21

Ye we do once a week, either a take away or an all you can eat buffet. My one year old lovessssss it😂🙈

MrsJBaptiste · 23/10/2022 10:25

Yep, every Saturday after a couple of bottles of wine.

It's not cheap (£60 for 4 of us as we all get them from different places) but I hate cooking and love a takeaway after we've been out for drinks.

TeddyTed · 23/10/2022 10:36

We get something probably once a fortnight, but we’re going to reduce that a bit to maybe every three weeks, more on health grounds than cost. We always like the idea of takeaway but they are increasingly disappointing. We ordered Chinese last night which is normally my favourite, and it wasn’t that nice at all. We’d have been better (and better off) having the Sainsbury’s pizza that’s in the fridge 😥

Used to but have cut down recently. I get something nice from the shops instead - the frozen pizzas from Iceland are actually really tasty and with a drink end up costing a few pounds per person compared to spending £££ on a take away. Almost all the take aways in my area now charge for delivery too along with increasing their prices in general so it's impossible to get anything for less than £20.

I never have pizza as a takeaway too I begrudge paying £15 or more when you can pay £1-3 in the supermarket

Luana1 · 23/10/2022 10:41

We got into the habit of a weekly takeaway during the lockdown years, but now with the cost of living increases and having to pay to commute again a couple of times a week we can no longer justify it as it costs at least £40 for the 3 of us. That did last a couple of meals but thinking of all we could get in Lidl for that amount made me realise our takeaway habit had to stop!

Wheredoallthepensgo · 23/10/2022 10:42

No set routine but every now and again when I just can't be arsed cooking/had a super crazy day at work we will get one. Usually Asian as they are the closest and fastest. I'd say on average about every 5-6 weeks.

We do go out for coffee/brunch most Saturday mornings to a fab independent cafe though. That's more our style of weekly treat.

EnolaAlone · 23/10/2022 10:42

Yes, usually have one on a Saturday, or sometimes have a meal out instead.

CoolAngelica · 23/10/2022 10:43

Probably only once a month now, used to be once or twice a week. Chinese or Caribbean £25-£40 for two of us.

Birthdaycake25 · 23/10/2022 10:44

Yes every Friday. Or occasionally do a meal deal for 12 pound or whatever from the supermarket which is much cheaper than a takeaway. But the rest of the week we cook fresh, use up leftovers etc so it's our one treat of the week.

Yettoconfirm567 · 23/10/2022 10:49

Once a week on Saturday night usually or we go out to eat somewhere casual. Or we eat when we are out during the day for our hobby.

But recently I have started to make fakeaways for the freezer that we can eat too. Still hassle free on Saturday nights, but more economical/healthier. So now we alternate between takeaways and fakeaways once a week.

One of the The Hairy Biker diet books are a very good source of fakeaway recipes.

Malfi · 23/10/2022 10:53

No. We might have a takeaway once a year. We live in an area with lots of great takeaways and restaurants but we still wouldn’t do it. They’re too expensive.

SheWoreYellow · 23/10/2022 10:57

We do, but just for me and DH and we share one starter and main between us, so it’s not too bad in terms of calories or cost.

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 23/10/2022 10:57

No maybe chippy once a month and a Chinese/Indian a couple of times a year. Never buy takeaway pizza as the supermarket ones are nicer for so much less money and no bother to bung in the oven.

If often it is less hassle to grab a pizza or a ready-made lasagne from the supermarket than to order takeaway that takes ages to arrive or pick something up that needs eating straight away when you really want to shower and change before relaxing.

We do love to have breakfast or lunch or coffee and cake out at the weekend though.

Luckydip1 · 23/10/2022 10:57

Yes, every other Saturday night.

Paris2023 · 23/10/2022 10:59

Yes and eating out a lot. Needs to stop

HuzzahIndeed · 23/10/2022 11:03

There are no good takeaways by us. I used to love a takeaway but now they taste of sorrow and regret at the waste of money for something not very nice.

Can't remember the last one I got.

SpookyWookyBoo · 23/10/2022 11:05

Actually had a Chinese last night. My D's had his friend staying over so we ordered a takeaway.
€50 but that fed 6 of us.
Well 7 if you count the cat who robbed the chicken from the chicken ball and left me the batter🤣.

We went out for dinner last week cause my son sent me a voucher.
Otherwise it's too expensive for 5 of us as the kids eat adult portion now

Summersummersummertime81 · 23/10/2022 11:06

It varies but not every week. The replies have me wondering how some takeaways are so cheap though! Here (suburb of london) for two adults you would pay at least £20 for fish and chips and at least £40 for Indian/Chinese. Think that puts me off having them more frequently.

North east England a decent curry for two (two course plus rice and naan) is around £25 can get a munchi box for £14.

We don't get them every week as we prefer to eat out. On average I would say we eat out or have a take away every week

Hugasauras · 23/10/2022 11:23

We have Friday pizza night but it's from takeaway/hot food counter at Co-op so only about £12 for two large pizzas and two sides! It's a right bargain considering a Domino's would cost us about four times as much!

hopeishere · 23/10/2022 11:23

We get one every Friday. I hate cooking so love not having to think / prep food.

We eat out every few weeks as well.

Roominmyhouse · 23/10/2022 11:25

We used to but hardly ever have one now. They take forever to be delivered and aren’t always that nice. I prefer to go to the pub for food or pick up something tasty from M&S.

girlmom21 · 23/10/2022 11:27

We tend to have a curry on a Sunday night and a mid-week chippy most weeks
