A takeaway once a week?

MsMiaWallace · 23/10/2022 09:07

Does anyone else have on average one takeaway a week?

We have fallen into the routine of this, Sat night (if I'm not at work) Indian takeaway & wine.
For me & DH Food lasts us 2 days £27.

We used to always have an Indian takeaway but it’s almost doubled in price and there’s very little else in the way of takeaways where we live so we don’t bother anymore.

DarkNecessities · 23/10/2022 09:40

Also OP. Why are you asking?
you do whatever suits you 😊

I have a friend who gets a takeout most nights for 4 of them.

AlisonDonut · 23/10/2022 09:41

Before we left the UK we had one about every 2-3 months but that's because I love cooking and we only had them when neither of us could plan dinner. Or if one of us was recovering from something and felt ravenous for take out. I remember once getting better from a bad flu type thing and himself making me roast potatoes with take out Chinese curry sauce. It was heaven.

AlisonDonut · 23/10/2022 09:43

Here in France unless you are in or near a city takeouts are very rare. We have had a few locally that are one off evenings that offer the same meal to go, so we occasionally take it home.

Lindy2 · 23/10/2022 09:43

Yes we have take away on Friday and we might eat out on a Saturday.

We enjoy it. We don't spend lots on hobbies or things like hair and nails etc. We don't go to the pub very often or go out with friends regularly, so food is our main endulgence and we enjoy it.

PermanentTemporary · 23/10/2022 09:44

When dh was alive we had one about 4 times a year.

Tanfastic · 23/10/2022 09:44

About once a fortnight because I really can't be arsed cooking some weekends.

Babdoc · 23/10/2022 09:44

Virtually never. I live a 30 mile round trip from the nearest takeaway - or “carry out” as they’re called up here.
I cook all my meals from scratch, always have done. But I do enjoy going to top notch restaurants when visiting the DC in Edinburgh.

sageandbasil · 23/10/2022 09:39

@blebbleb do you have the pinch of nom books? I used to make great fakeaways from them!

Yes I do. Love them! The fish and chips are really good!

FinallyHere · 23/10/2022 09:45

If you like it and can afford it

Having put on a lot of weight during the lock downs and and the limited options for entertainment, we have found that cooking from scratch, rather than relying on take aways, means that we eat better quality meat and fresher vegetables

Financially can afford take away but health wise its worth the extra effort to cook from scratch. Usually quite simple grilled meat and lots of salad / veg. Sleep and feel much better for it, too. Pity, loved takeaway.

HippeePrincess · 23/10/2022 09:46

Every two months on average, we enjoy it more I think than when I had them more regularly in a previous life.

Iloveacurry · 23/10/2022 09:46

Usually once month. During lockdown, we did have a takeaway once a week, probably like a lot of people!

AnApparitionQuipped · 23/10/2022 09:47

No, we only have takeaways on holiday or occasionally on day trips - three or four times a year, maybe. My husband is genuinely a 'small eater' - I'm the opposite but I try to be sensible so we share one portion between us.

PinkSyCo · 23/10/2022 09:49

Yep, one of my lovely son’s treats me to a takeaway most weekends and my other son does now and again too. I will miss those lads when they leave home! 🤣

DarkNecessities · 23/10/2022 09:50

We do tend to have ‘ready meals’ too.
Quicker, easier and cheaper than a takeaway.

GodInventedAmazon · 23/10/2022 09:50

blebbleb · 23/10/2022 09:45

Yes I do. Love them! The fish and chips are really good!

Whaaaaat? What is this magic book ?

GlitchStitch · 23/10/2022 09:51

We were having far too many takeaways. Live in a city centre with every delivery app and restaurant type you can imagine. Have justified the cost as don't smoke or drink, but the costs were definitely adding up and it has made us lazy.
So now we have gone to Fri night only, everyone in the family takes a turn at picking. Which often means Mcdonalds!

AnonWeeMouse · 23/10/2022 09:51

I used to love a movie and a delivered pizza on a Saturday night. But I tried a Sainsbury's hot pizza and haven't had a delivered one since. Now my local ASDA cooks pizzas too. I can nip out and get one in less time it takes for a delivery to come and they're half as much. (I think they use better quality ingredients too than the average Pizza Shop..)

So now our takeaways are usually a Supermarket Cooked pizza. 👍

bigbluebus · 23/10/2022 09:51

No. Never have done. Probably have about 2 take aways a year.
We cook meals from scratch here and we're rarely impressed by the standard of takeaway food so feel it's a waste of money - even though we could afford it.

Alarae · 23/10/2022 09:57

It used to be once a week but now probably once every 3-4 weeks. We used to like getting Domino's but since they put prices up and delivery fees it's hard to justify £26 for two pizzas. We get the pizza meal deals from Sainsbury's or M&S for £12 instead (two pizzas plus two sides).

We also liked McDs but since I'm more conscious of my calories we haven't had that for a very long time (that's used to be twice a month).

We tend to just buy 'posh' supermarket deals now as generally they taste the same or nicer. Charlie Bighams does an excellent Korma and M&S has a nice paella if we fancy something different.

Goldmember · 23/10/2022 09:58

No, maybe every 2-3 months. I do a lot of fake aways and have gotten quite good at it. We have a small deep fat fryer which makes the most delicious fries. Paired with battered fish or an Angus steak burger, quite an easy dinner. I can make a curry in less than half an hour, naan bread in the toaster, yum. A stir fry is easy to do and now we have salt and pepper seasoning we can make the simplest chicken and chips dish taste like chinese. I have now nailed peri peri kebabs too. My only foe is pizza, I can make it but as it takes hours to prove it's not a quick easy meal.

catchthedog · 23/10/2022 10:02

wish i could, but I personally couldn't have an Indian every week, I'd end up fat as the ones I like are far too high calorie I'd have to eat so little all week to be able to make up for it.

LoveMyCats1 · 23/10/2022 10:07

We had 3 takeaways last week. I hate cooking. I cooked roast yday and we are eating out today and I plan to cook in the week, but who knows how that will go.

LoveMyCats1 · 23/10/2022 10:13

Basically I need to go food shopping and couldn't be bothered 🙈 I'm looking on Tescos as we speak.

Ginger1982 · 23/10/2022 10:13

We probably average one every 3 weeks. I would happily eat them more regularly though! We are quite bad for Greggs once a week and eating out once a week too though.
