Daughter pregnant

My 24yr daughter announced she's pregnant.
I'm worried sick.

She has serious mh issues and medication resistant epilepsy. She's on waiting list for brain surgery.
She takes 11 tablets of various anti convulsants and mh meds.
I've used the BNF to check these meds and pregnancy and a lot of the meds are toxic to the baby and can cause bad withdrawals.

She's known to social services so I imagine they will be in touch when she goes to the midwife.

She did drink a lot and take drugs.
Both her and her partner have been in prison so low on the council house list, she wants to move closer to us.

Not sure what I want but my head is flying everywhere, I'm epileptic as well and both her & her brother were effected by my meds during pregnancy. Withdrawals and mainly didn't feed for 3 days and very sleepy.

I'm worried about her mh , we think this is because some of her close friends have recently given birth.

Please calm me down.
She's coming to see me today with her partner.

They might have referred her to SS based on her past medical history and that she is pregnant. The accidental overdose was possibly used as a pretext? I'm speculating though. But they are probably as concerned as you are.

Suspicion (or confirmed by her at the time) that she was taking co-codamol/solpadeine, rather than paracetamol? Not saying she has taken in, but I do know of users who would insist they'd only had paracetamol for toothache/headaches when they were very clearly not.

Afternoon
She told me they asked what analgesia she had taken in the past and what she took now.
Then asked if she was pregnant
So I can only assume based on the fact she couldn't be 100% sure how far gone she is they made her go in for bloods.
She was totally fine about it. Bloods were ok, and the hospital have done the midwife referral for her as she's having GP problems.
She will have flags on the system as well.
Thank you for all your posts and ideas.
I can only go off what she tells me is the problem.

As for you, OP, with all due respect but all you can do is advise her. Do not make this your burden.

It's easier said than done sometimes. I have stepped away with a lot of things and advise. The only one thing I've really done for her in the last year is be her guarantor for her flat, which the rent she always pays on time.
I had to step back as situations were making me ill and I'm no good to anyone if I'm climbing the walls.

Hi OP

It would be worth looking into if Family Nurse Partnership is available in your area for 24 year olds and if it is asking for your daughter to be referred, it's a highly supportive service for first time mums!

aliceinshackles · 15/11/2022 16:33

Never heard of that , thank you

My daughter's friend has a very rare form of epilepsy. When she was pregnant she had regular appointments with both specialists.

I totally forgot as well. Social worker got in touch regards the paracetamol saga. Went through the version of events, sw said yes that's the information they have. It was to do with paracetamol and not knowing how far she was!
As far as the sw was concerned daughter was doing everything correct and they had no issues and would close the case. That was adult social services not children's and she hasn't heard a peep off children's services, is willing to engage.
