We haven't here.
It still doesn't feel cold enough in the house for me. Although ours neighbours is on (which probably keeps us warmer).

For an hour first thing. That's it. Tho the last two days it hasn't kicked in as house still 18.

Bibbetybobbity · 18/10/2022 08:10

Me. Doesn’t feel cold enough (SE so is very mild most of the year). I live in a new build and it’s very insulated, so I think that helps although it did get freezing last year…

Omgiache · 18/10/2022 08:11

No I haven’t put it on but I’m in the south west and haven’t felt I’ve needed to. I have to say I’m in the menopause and I feel quite warm most of the time!

TowerblocksAndSunflowers · 18/10/2022 08:11

I haven't. In the SE, it's really not been that cold yet. We just go to bed early if we're cold, and grin and bear it in the morning when we get out the shower. Hoping to hold out til November.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/10/2022 08:12

Us, we live in a new build and although we live up north, it’s still consistently 18.5° inside. I’d usually have put the heating in to bring it up to 20° but it’s not bad at all.

AuntieMarys · 18/10/2022 08:12

Ridiculously mild here, thank god...in the North. Heating off since April 1st....we can probably keep it off till November looking at the forecast.

hanahsaunt · 18/10/2022 08:13

We are North Yorkshire and holding out so far. We do have an Aga which makes the kitchen and playroom toasty so we are living there largely at the moment.

AdventAdventure · 18/10/2022 08:13

Ours is just on a thermostat set to come on in the mornings if it drops below 16 and evenings if it’s below 18. It hasn’t dropped below that yet so it hasn’t come on, and so far I’ve not felt the need to override it.

DialsMavis · 18/10/2022 08:15

Not cold enough yet on South coast and not being martyr about it either, will be pleased if we can get to November

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 18/10/2022 08:15

Nope still not on- terrace house in London to be fair but had some questionable evenings.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 18/10/2022 08:15

Me - it has been freakishly mild here. Yesterday I thought I was having hot flushes, then I realised I was wearing a big jumper (because it is mid October) and it was 19°.

Onthegrid · 18/10/2022 08:15

Not been on here either, we had builders in and radiators were being moved. In any case I haven’t been cold and we have stayed over 18c may have dipped under at night but I never run the heating whilst I sleep as it would keep me awake.
Like the pp I am in the SE in a modern well insulated house with the part of the house I spend time in south facing with loads of sunlight to warm us.
A period of wet weather will lead to us needing heat and the good news is the builders have finished.

Discovereads · 18/10/2022 08:15

We have put ours on for 3hrs total so far each time for 1hr on 3 particularly cold and dark mornings. But other than that, it is off. Not sure hold out much longer as have frost in morning and can see my breath outside now. We do have passive solar so if a sunny day, that warms the house up a bit. But forecast shows sun coming to an abrupt end later this week.

PinkyU · 18/10/2022 08:15

We’ve not put it on, it’s been as low as 14 in some parts of our house with overnight and early morning temperatures occasionally in the single digits, currently 6 degrees outside. We simply can’t afford to have it on.

PorkPieAndAPickledOnion · 18/10/2022 08:16

We’re in the West Country and it’s been too mild so far for us to think about it - though we never heat above 18 or 19 anyway. The house hasn’t dropped below 18 for more than one day so far, and then only to 17, so no, it’s not on yet.

coodawoodashooda · 18/10/2022 08:17

I had to. The house was damp.

HappyHappyHermit · 18/10/2022 08:18

We're also SW but had a frost overnight the other day. We've had the odd hour here or there when really needed but not much.

blusteryshowersaway · 18/10/2022 08:19

Scotland here. Heating on as I type.

kisfröccs · 18/10/2022 08:20

Not yet. Central Scotland. Have had the electric fire on briefly for the first time at the weekend and otherwise just wrapping up and using blankets and hot water bottles.

tealandteal · 18/10/2022 08:20

Ours is on a thermostat and it just hasn’t kicked in yet. The temperature is set the same as last year. I suppose technically it has been on as the engineer turned the thermostat right up to get it to come on when he did the service but that was only for 5 mins to test it.

purpledagger · 18/10/2022 08:20

we haven't put our heating on yet and are trying to manage with extra layers for now. i initially said i would try and keep it off until half term and as it's still quite mild, i may be able to hold out for bit longer.

in previous years, i just whacked the heating on and up whenever i felt like it, so this is the first time i've had to consciously think about it.

MichaelAndEagle · 18/10/2022 08:21

Its been on the odd hour, but its really not that cold yet. 8 degrees here in NE today.
I would have had it on without thinking in normal years which goes to show how much i was 'wasting' unnecessarily.

justasking111 · 18/10/2022 08:22

Competition between OH and married DS as to who's using less energy. Our bill is lower apparently 🙄.

TitInATrance · 18/10/2022 08:23

SW city mid terrace - no, I don’t think it’s been below 18 indoors so it wouldn’t kick in even if it was on.

I notice more rural friends with log burners are firing up now, though.

BitOutOfPractice · 18/10/2022 08:23

It yet here (south east). Live in a flat which means we are insulated above sbd below by neighbours and it hasn’t really been cold yet (19° yesterday afternoon)
