Do you buy new matching family Christmas pj’s every year?

OP posts:

No. And I would definitely judge anyone who did.

Wasteful, and unbelievably naff.

Bottomofthepileasusual · 18/10/2022 14:14

Hell no. My DH would never get on board with this DS17 wouldn't acknowledge it.
DD wears mine anyway.
The constant photos on FB with matching pjs makes me cringe

ItsaMetalBand · 18/10/2022 14:44

Yes the last couple of years. Ever since when DS was about 4 and my ancient PJ's with the hole in the crotch meant my fanny was flashing on the Christmas morning video.

So I get nice PJs but I'll wear them throughout the year anyway, so does DH. DS loves to match us and any he grows out of we donate.

I always had new PJs on Christmas Eve, and I do the same for DS. This year we've got matching as I wanted to. They'll (his) get worn till they don't fit and then passed on. And mine will get worn till they fall apart.

It'll tickle DS and I'm hoping for a happier Christmas than the last two on the trot when I've been post baby loss and deep in fresh grief.

HappyBinosaur · 18/10/2022 22:05

@gogohmm I specifically said I don’t buy them for photos. If I take photos at Christmas they are for my own memories and not social media. I’m not on Facebook or Instagram so that’s not even an option.

HappyBinosaur · 18/10/2022 22:09

@StJeanDeVence I think that’s quite sad!

Thankfully you’d never get the chance to judge my family because the couple of times we’ve done this, we’ve only worn them in the house and not put photos on social media.

It’s not been wasteful at all for us and we’ve worn them loads.
Your naff = someone else’s silly Christmas fun!

ChocHaloTop · 18/10/2022 22:33

No, I see it as ridiculous consumerism. Even if we bought them once (we wouldn't), why would we need new ones every year? Presumably they get one period of seasonal wear a year and so last for ages?

levitybrevity · 18/10/2022 22:42

Yes. I have done ever since I moved in. They all get pjs in the Christmas Eve box and I take the obligatory photo. They are nearly all adults now but there would be outrage if I didn't. My mum now spends Christmas Eve with us and she's included in the Christmas Eve box too. It's fun.

ahunf · 19/10/2022 07:09

Yes. We have new matching pjs every Christmas, Easter, Birthday and Halloween. We take a photo in the same spot every time we wear them to compare then. Joking no we've had one matching pair of Christmas PJS 2 years back. Not knocking the people who do them. I'm miserable.

ProfessorGambol · 17/10/2022 22:03

No, but a friend's family does for all adult children and their partners.

That is very cringe worthy. Does she force Christmas Eve boxes on them as well?

Liorae · 16/11/2022 04:09

Lcb123 · 18/10/2022 07:47

No, so wasteful from an environmental perspective. Fair enough getting new (non Christmas) PJs if actually needed.

But they NEED to have them in the Christmas eve box😂

Joystir59 · 16/11/2022 04:42

Fuck no

onlythreenow · 16/11/2022 05:04

No. I'm not in the UK and Christmas pyjamas (and jumpers) aren't a thing here - thank goodness!!

onlythreenow · 16/11/2022 05:13

I don't get why you put on clothes to go to bed in at all, it's a bizarre custom to me

Because some of us live alone, in countries where it gets cold at night, and we don't have central heating. What's "bizarre" about that?

BobbyBobbyBobby · 16/11/2022 06:38

What an absolutely hideous idea.

LoveBluey · 16/11/2022 07:06

I don't personally no but it's not necessarily wasteful as long as they are reworn. I have 2 Christmas jumpers I've had for a few years and I wear frequently for about 6 weeks of the year. Compared to the 10 or so occasion dresses I have hanging in the wardrobe that have each been to 1 or 2 weddings if they are lucky than the Xmas jumpers get much more use!

thecatsthecats · 16/11/2022 08:24

In Iceland, if you don't get new clothes for Christmas, a giant black cat eats you.

Maybe people are just being cautious.
