Do you buy new matching family Christmas pj’s every year?

We all get new pjs at christmas but not matching and not christmas themed

Sooo tempting, just to see my teenagers faces. Or dh’s. I think they might disown me.

but no, never

Ha ha ha!

CloudPop · 17/10/2022 22:07

Never even considered it.

I did for this year but only the once and I purchased them in the clearance sale from last year way back in January for £4 a set. Kids are little and it's fun.

CorvusPurpureus · 17/10/2022 22:08

Definitely not, & I speak as an enthusiastic adopter of the 'oh look, the elves dropped you in new PJs & a fancy sachet of hot chocolate' brigade.

Dc are in late teens. There's only so far I can realistically expect suspension of disbelief...

saraclara · 17/10/2022 22:08

Nope. Though back when the kids were small we'd buy then new pyjamas for Christmas Eve. But not matching and not Christmas themed. I think it was kind of accidental the first time. We'd bought new ones just before and having them put them on for the first time that night seemed a nice way to mark Christmas Eve. So since they needed new ones ever year anyway we timed it for then for a few years.

ifoundthebread · 17/10/2022 22:09

I dont.

I work in a clothing warehouse and the amount of matching pjs we have in and are picking there is a few thousand households all going to be wearing the same set.

BrutusMcDogface · 17/10/2022 22:09

So wasteful. I have bought matching for everyone twice before, but with four kids we hand them down. Mine still fit (just about 🤨) as do my teenage daughter’s who is adult size 8. The other kids wear whatever fits them until they grow out of them at which point they get passed on to family. The two sets of matching are all coordinating (red/white patterns).

People buy matching Christmas pjs every year to look good on Instagram, and that’s basically it. My cousin freely admits to just throwing tons of stuff away as she buys so, so, so much every Christmas. It’s fucking depressing.

olivehater · 17/10/2022 22:10

Yes for the kids but not me and Dh. I go a size up and I give them on the 1st December and try and go for something like a traditional plaid to get full winter use out of them two years in the trot. They are also unisex so get passed down.

Mummummummumyyyyy · 17/10/2022 22:10

No, and any Christmas themed pjs bought for my children are worn all year round and passed down to the younger ones once outgrown

TonTonMacoute · 17/10/2022 22:10

No.

A synapse has just exploded in my brains just thinking about it!

InOtherWords · 17/10/2022 22:11

I don't, but the Christmas Tree does 😉 Every Christmas Eve we have matching pjs from under the tree (usually sainsburys). We change into them and eat curry and watch the Snowman. They are now teenagers and still love it.

TonTonMacoute · 17/10/2022 22:11

(I only have one brain btw)

BrutusMcDogface · 17/10/2022 22:11

I think it is a common tradition for new pjs at Christmas. I always got some as a child (none matching and not Christmas themed) and have already got my kids some in the Frugi winter sale last year (impressed with myself for that to be honest! 😂)

FrancescaContini · 17/10/2022 22:11

Christ no. Never.

Medoca · 17/10/2022 22:12

God no, why? I hate PJs, so does my husband. Why would you inflict that on your family? Who is going to care or see it?

FelicityRelaxington · 17/10/2022 22:12

No.
Nor jumpers.
So wasteful.
Also not my personal taste.
I'm not offended by people who do but I do wince at the buying to be worn once or twice bit.

IHateWasps · 17/10/2022 22:13

I feel ill just thinking about matching pyjamas.

daffodilandtulip · 17/10/2022 22:13

Yes!!

DC are teens now and I suggested dropping it. They gave me a list of traditions that I must never stop doing 😂

MyPetCrow · 17/10/2022 22:13

No, DH and I don't wear pyjamas. DC1 thinks it's cringy, DC2 only wear pyjamas bottoms, DC3&4 have matched when they were tiny and probably would now if I bought them.

Turquoisesock · 17/10/2022 22:14

I only did this one year - took lovely photos of the dc. Never got them again as little did I know it was the year I very nearly lost all my children to ss through no fault of my own and now the thought of matching Xmas pjs gives me anxiety. I look a bit at those pictures and think how close we came . Thank god we had the social worker we did who saw through it all and investigated properly

BMWfries · 17/10/2022 22:15

Not every year but we have them. It’s cute and fun and it hurts no one. I wouldn’t ever get any with the date on like I’ve seen this year.

YellowTreeHouse · 17/10/2022 22:16

Of course.

Deadringer · 17/10/2022 22:16

No. But I do buy the dc new Xmas pjs every year and they wear them for the rest of the winter. I wouldn't be opposed to matching ones (not for me though I don't wear pyjamas) but dd1 likes cotton ones, dd2 likes thick fluffy ones, and dd3 likes the light micro fleece ones.

StupidSmallFruit · 17/10/2022 22:17

Why are you asking, @Doughnuts68 ?
