Do you buy new matching family Christmas pj’s every year?

I don't get what happens over time. The parents just accrue more and more pajamas!!!

Dkids all got Xmas PJs buy they're still wearing them in Oct and will continue to do so

Season0fTheWitch · 17/10/2022 23:34

Yes, DH, SIL and I all have a Christmas eve eve sleepover with matching PJs. It's good fun, we take it in turns each year to pick. DH and I buy each other a nice pair each year too

How many pairs do you own?????

SleepingStandingUp · 18/10/2022 00:34

Mrsmch123 · 17/10/2022 23:03

They are literally £8 so no not more money than sense . You know nothing about my financial situation....

If you brought decent nightwear or used your tumble drier properly, they wouldn't shrink.

Unbelievable how self absorbed and selfish some people are.

I’m 7 pages into the party but no I’ve never bought matching pjs for Christmas. I have no inclination to buy them in the future either. Is there a reason why I should?

AriettyHomily · 18/10/2022 00:36

Nope.

StupidSmallFruit · 18/10/2022 00:42

Are you coming back to your thread @Doughnuts68 ?

Weatherwax13 · 18/10/2022 00:49

God no. I always bought my kids new pjs to start wearing Christmas Eve and now have a tradition of giving the grandchildren pyjamas with their advent calendar. But never Xmas themed ones. And I can only imagine my ACs' faces if I gave them matching sets.
My DIL did this one year and I didn't enquire but I think she overestimated the extent of DS's festive bonhomie as she's never done it again.
Apart from anything else it's incredibly wasteful. Lots of other nice Christmas traditions you can start for your family.

IncessantNameChanger · 18/10/2022 00:53

I get my kids matching Christmas pjs every year. Shoot me.

My kids grow every year, they always need pjs. They wear them all year round. They hand them down.

I can't see how what is printed on them that's such a shocker.

Of course they don't accumulate them over time. All kids grow surely? By the time the pjs are handed down four times they are either worn to death or sold like all their clothes.

In their small collection of pjs they possibly only have two pairs of Christmas pjs that currently fit and they just get worn with all the rest. I can't see the problem? The adults don't match in. We're not on insta and I I don't post pics on FB. I'm.not a parent you would ever envy or aspire to. No one sees them.in their Christmas pjs in April.

CallieQ · 18/10/2022 00:54

Nooooooo

Youngman1267 · 18/10/2022 01:03

Nope

Chloefairydust · 18/10/2022 01:15

Me and my partner do this every Christmas, it’s such a fun tradition. Last year was grinch pyjamas. He actually took the rubbish out in these bright green grinch pjs, and the neighbours had family visiting who saw my partner casually strolling off to the bins dressed like the grinch carrying bin bag (probably looked like the sack the grinch used to steal Christmas 😆) … He hung around the bins for ages waiting for the family to go back inside as he was embarrassed and he could hear next doors neighbours kids saying “‘where did the grinch go? … Is he coming back?”. 🤣

It was hilarious, I need to find some equally embarrassing pyjamas for this Christmas now 😁

Forgottenmypasswordagain · 18/10/2022 01:27

Always xmas Eve pj's, but never matched or themed I'm afraid

PicsForCliques · 18/10/2022 06:11

Yeah I do. I love having new pyjamas, my DS grows fast so needs new ones a few times a year. I wear them all year round but always buy a new pair in December that match. After a few years I eBay them/donate them to charity, I wouldn’t just throw them away. I don’t post photos of us on social media wearing them so I’m not doing it for ‘the gram’, I like it and I like pyjamas. So many people on their high horses on this thread when I can guarantee loads of you shop
at primark/buy lots of plastic crap at Xmas etc.

Smallorangecat · 18/10/2022 06:27

No, I have never done this. It never crossed my mind, maybe because DH didn’t wear pyjamas. DC do get a new pair of pyjamas on Christmas Eve but they aren’t usually Christmas themed (I bought this year’s yesterday, they have koalas on) and are worn all year.

pallidbat · 18/10/2022 06:46

Not matching, but coordinating, and not Christmas "themed", just nice ones that can be worn through the year. Last year we all had variations on black and white, the year before that it was navy and red checked.

HappyBinosaur · 18/10/2022 06:48

I can understand posts worrying about waste and I think it’s appalling to throw away pyjamas, but I don’t think the sneering ‘why would I?’ posts are necessary. I don’t do the elf thing but I don’t sneer at others who do.

As I said earlier, I’ve bought the 6 of us matching pjs for fun a couple of times in the past and t-shits this year!! If you think it’s tacky then that’s fair enough, we all have different ideas of what makes Christmas fun. I work every Christmas and it’s exhausting, and whatever makes it fun with my family is a good thing. I don’t share photos or show off so what is the problem?!

Also, we’d wear them all year round so it’s not wasteful as most of my household wear pjs every night. I have quite a few of pairs of non Christmas pjs too (mostly presents) and if I wanted to get rid of them I’d give them to clothes bank. I buy decent quality ones so they do last.

HappyBinosaur · 18/10/2022 06:50

And like @pallidbat ours have been coordinated or themed but not necessarily explicitly Christmas designs.

We got some character ones from a show we all love one year which was great fun!

Plantmoretrees86 · 18/10/2022 07:00

Mrsmch123 · 17/10/2022 22:34

Yip I bin them after Xmas🙈

That's appalling 😱

gogohmm · 18/10/2022 07:01

No, they look frankly ridiculous. But I know someone who does, posts pictures and everything - she's a little odd and trying to be an Instagram influencer, pushing her kid as well

AmIThatMam · 18/10/2022 07:03

Yes. Clearly I must buy them all as no one else does 😂 #echochamber

Suzysuz · 18/10/2022 07:03

We do 🤷🏼‍♀️😆
We don't post pictures on social media
DC is 5 and enjoys doing it
They're not just for Christmas and get used after, got one of the pj bottoms on now 🤣
DC outgrows theirs and then pj's go in charity bag

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 18/10/2022 07:04

No. DH doesn’t wear pyjamas, DS (13) only wears short ones (with an oodie when cold, I’m not putting the heating on!) and I have tons of shorts through to fleecy ones from Primark that last for years. I did just have a look at pjs on Next though and now I wish I had a snuggly toddler to dress up 😭.

AmIThatMam · 18/10/2022 07:05

IHateWasps · 17/10/2022 23:10

BTW. I know that we all need our little things to lift our mood, especially now, but is it really too much to at least put the pyjamas in a clothing bin so that they haven't been entirely wasted?

We don’t just wear them for a week! Kids grow out of pyjamas in a year… it’s not entirely frivolous!

gogohmm · 18/10/2022 07:07

@HappyBinosaur

Not everyone wears pj's so buying them for photos would be incredibly wasteful. I don't get why you put on clothes to go to bed in at all, it's a bizarre custom to me. My DD's don't want them now either

Hobnobswantshernameback · 18/10/2022 07:12

Ooh look at that
OP drops goady bitchplop and runs
and gets exactly the seven pages of sneering they aimed for
wind em up and watch them go
