@LadyApplejack - both Johnson and Truss have the same flaw. They think they can act quickly and just bang the table like a tin pot dictator. The pandemic hid the issues but a lot of what is coming out now is old Johnson policy which was never advanced due to the pandemic.

Both are rubbish. Johnson had charisma. But a total loser as a leader like Truss

Truss is clearly copying Johnson, because she's too thick to understand why those tactics don't work, and likewise too thick to work out a sensible strategy by herself.

Oh no I love Kwasi

Said no one ever. 😂

@TheLeadbetterLife I just meant that result was very convincing, and that I don't expect the next one to be anywhere near, in spite of how shit the Tories have been. I've never characterized BJ as a poor downtrodden doing his best, don't spin it. My simple point is, he got the huge majority for the Tories and out within just a couple of years, and the events since have been totally destabilizing, more so than anything he did in power. I hope as much as anyone that whoever finally gets in for good is the leader we all want. I can't picture who that is though.

No-one but Johnson is responsible for fucking up so badly. He used that 80 seat majority as a shield to deflect attention from all his many, many screw-ups. He couldn't keep a government together, he couldn't fill all the cabinet or ministerial posts because he was incompetent. That's why he failed, and that's why it was untenable for him to continue as leader. It doesn't matter what your majority was, if you can't maintain a government, you can't govern. He lost 50 or 60 ministers in the space of a few days. That's all on him.

theworldhas · 14/10/2022 15:37

Farcical. They both need to go.
can we have boris and rishi back please

Short memories. BJ was the worst PM in history. Completely out of his depth and unsuited for the role. A lazy dosser and bullshitter. I won’t bother considering Truss a competitor for that title despite her best efforts as she won’t last more than a couple of months and will just be a footnote in how the Tories destroyed the country between 2010-24.

TheMousePipes · 14/10/2022 11:54

I’ll have a go if you like. I have got a fucking clue what I’m doing but apparently that’s not an issue these days.

Thank you for this! Made me laugh a lot. What's your real name so I can vote for you? Grin

Ashadeofgreen55 · 14/10/2022 15:45

StPaulandTheBrokenBones · 14/10/2022 15:28

Hang on, weren't these economic policies hers? She and KK did exactly what they said they were going to do and now he has been sacked? What about her? Why has she not fucked off as well? Do these politicians think we cannot remember what they said only a few short weeks ago?

Yes she’s sacked a chancellor for instigating her own policies! She is trying to say that he introduced new measures too quickly for financial markets but apparently she was huddled up with him for days before becoming PM thrashing all of this out.

And now she is trying to claim she is working in the national interest! If it wasn’t so catastrophic it would be laughable.

EsmaCannonball · 14/10/2022 15:53

Now we have a Chancellor who once had a business plan to export marmalade - a food rapidly declining in popularity even in this country - to the Japanese, and who, as Culture Secretary, didn't know that The Tempest was written by Shakespeare.

Great. It's all just going well.

Ashadeofgreen55 · 14/10/2022 15:55

Oh no thanks. And to
be fair to LT she inherited a lot of financial problems from them…. and proceeded to make them even worse!

Ashadeofgreen55 · 14/10/2022 15:58

Whaaaaaat????? 😮😳

LadyApplejack · 14/10/2022 16:04

@TheLeadbetterLife he filled his posts fine at first. Covid hit relatively soon into his tenure and he undid himself by failing to comply with harsh rules he should never have set. So in that sense we can agree. Going back around to my original point, I think if we called a GE today with Johnson as Tory leader they'd get back in, because for all the failings the economy is already fucked and the public would still prefer him at the helm to others on offer. Who would you want?

derxa · 14/10/2022 16:27

I'm sick of government by Twitter and MSM. Running a country isn't easy. There is no quick fix.

LexMitior · 14/10/2022 16:34

Yes there is. It's called the mini budget.

Oh...

Yeah, things are complex. It's as if the Tories have suddenly realised that international markets are judging them. Truss won't survive this unless she builds a new Cabinet and she's given her party a loss at the next election.

They are just trying to work out how to limit the damage. But they are over.

Christ if this is true then the public deserves what they get.

I wouldn't want any of the Tories, but if I had to have one, it wouldn't be one of this new breed of ERG lunatics and extremists, or a showboating narcissist like Johnson. Give me an old school one nation Conservative who has a track record of competence.

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/10/2022 16:49

Also, the economy is fucked because of Johnson, not in spite of him. He was quite popular during covid, so that can't be blamed for his failure. He tanked in the polls and started screwing things up after the crisis was over.

Of course he filled his posts to begin with. Ministers left in droves because he was shite. Not because they had it in for him. He couldn't lead.

You think if not for Johnson the economy would be fine now? In that case you should be able to name a leader (from either party) you reckon would sort this out.

TheLeadbetterLife · 14/10/2022 17:02

You can't seriously be suggesting that Johnson is the only and best option? After his term in office?

That's bananas.

Eh. You literally just said the economy is fucked BECAUSE of him. He's been ousted and we're in leadership wilderness, hence I wondered who you think can come in and sort things out. There must be plenty who spring to mind!

Dave20 · 14/10/2022 18:07

Hunt will accept any job. Foreign secretary, health secretary. He’s been around.
Not sure why anyone would want that job though.

GreenLunchBox · 14/10/2022 21:06

This country has got the government it deserves.

It's upsetting and infuriating

I almost feel sorry for KK and LT. They were both promoted far above their abilities and Johnson and BREXIT paved the way for corruption, self-service and lies to be the norm so I have no doubt they are both shell-shocked right now.

The media facilitated this. They need to fuck off now pretending to be horrified with what is happening.

My cat says that she's happy to accept the chancellor's job, alongside Larry as PM.
Can't do any worse than this shower of 💩💩

GreenLunchBox · 14/10/2022 22:01

Thank fuck the markets have said no. Somebody needs to step in. Where the fuck will we be in two years if not 👀

Reactions of Rees-Mogg and Braverman could be interesting. They both perceived that the door was open for a massive shift to the right and were having a lovely time foreshadowing things like abolishing maternity rights and benefits, deporting brown people and similar. They should be quite concerned about how badly they misread the situation, but I suggest neither is bright enough.

Dave20 · 14/10/2022 22:23

The UK’s credit rating is already scarred, regardless of u- turns. Our borrowing power will weaken , we’re a laughing stock.
No other G7 country has been in our position.
We now have a black mark against our credit rating.

Are the Truss voters happy with themselves do you think? They were fucking warned.

Everything Sunak said came true.
