Stand down everyone - I got a D in A-level economics 30 years ago, obviously I'm the frontrunner now.

If Kwarteng has gone, Truss needs to go too. They are, after all, 'in lockstep'. General Election NOW, ffs. The fucking Tories cannot be allowed to get away with this absolute clownshow a moment longer.

Honestly, I’m thinking setting up The Mumsnet Party and having a crack at getting elected isn’t a half bad idea at this stage. There are enough MNers that we could field a local candidate (male or female) in pretty much every constituency. I’ll cast my vote for J K Rowling as party leader.

That’s actually not a bad idea at all tbh. It already has a lot of name recognition.

My youngest son. He’s still in primary school and has ASD but he’s good at maths and has far more empathy and insight into the lives of real people than any one of those numpties in Parliament ! I honestly think the only way for the country to benefit from a government that isn’t self serving and corrupt would be if there were no parties and politics and instead it operated like jury duty. Professionals from education, social care , health care and finance etc get randomly selected aged 60 to do a five year stint as a member of the government . They keep their salaries but do government business instead of their management roles. Most of those professionals will have started on the ground so that people making decisions about healthcare have actually worked on the wards , people revising social care policies have actually been social workers etc
take all the corruption out of it and give a voice back to the average working class person.

This is pretty much how I'd like to see it run.

PeppaPigIsBacon · 14/10/2022 13:36

Jeremy Hunt appointed, apparently.

reesewithoutaspoon · 14/10/2022 13:37

Can we have Michael Fabricant. At least if the country is going to implode we could have a bit of a giggle along the way.

Agreed. Or a WRN party. Since Labour don't give a fig about sex based rights.

This never gets old does it....

Indeed! We were quoting that when he popped up on The World at One just now.

David Milliband would have delivered a Labour government but it's just another example of the party members choosing their particular darling over the electable candidate. And here we are again just with a blue hue.

Kwasi should have stayed under the sea with the rest of the Octonauts. A cat has not business being chancellor

My god that made me laugh 😂

StJeanDeVence · 14/10/2022 13:40

hahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaa

Sorry, just heard that the loathsome Chris Philp has also been sacked. My old MP. Awful, awful man. So that's some good news, anyway.

IndigoC · 14/10/2022 13:41

Hunt is an odd choice. Factionalism at play. She must have cut a deal with the One Nation Tories. Which is bizarre given the extreme right put her into power.

Wheresthebeach · 14/10/2022 13:43

Amazed anyone wants the job...talk about going down with the ship.

citroenpresse · 14/10/2022 13:47

PeppaPigIsBacon yes, you can join the Labour Party if you have lived in the UK for a year or more. But if you live abroad, you have to be British! There are no nationality qualifications for Tories abroad - anyone can join.

TheFairyCaravan · 14/10/2022 13:50

We need a General Election.

Everything in the mini budget was what Liz Truss said she was going to do when she stood for the Tory leadership position. Rishi Sunak said this would happen but none of the party members wanted to listen to him because they thought he was a snake for not standing by Boris Johnson.

I'm disgusted by the whole lot of them. Liz Truss should go. We absolutely should not have another PM forced on to us with another mandate that no one voted for.

This pair of inept idiots have cost the economy billions. People's mortgages are going to be unaffordable. The whole thing is unforgivable.

hear, hear.

Dave20 · 14/10/2022 13:53

Truss needs mass resignations or pressure from back benchers to oust her.

One can only hope Truss is history by Xmas.
She’s dangerous and incompetent which is probably worse than being dangerous and competent.

Will she be out by Xmas?

Shame Kwerteng has already fucked the economy up costing me hundreds per month in higher interest payments .

derxa · 14/10/2022 13:54

LadyApplejack · 14/10/2022 13:34

Absolutely friggin ridiculous. Johnson gets a whopping majority. Tory MPs and media hound him out, with no decent candidates lined up. Truss is voted in, carries out the plans she said she'd implement. She gets hounded out. General election results in a shite Labour govt nearly by default, who are also not going to be able to resolve a post-Covid/war-afflicted knackered economy. So depressing.

Totally agree

I’ll have a go if you like. I have got a fucking clue what I’m doing but apparently that’s not an issue these days.

Don't know whether this makes me want you laugh or weep. So true.

RoseAndRose · 14/10/2022 13:56

Just had pop up saying Jeremy Hunt

WilsonMilson · 14/10/2022 13:57

Last act of a desperate woman. She’ll be gone by November.
What a shitshow.

Yup. Literally none of this is a surprise. She and her policies were clearly barking, right from day 1.

God, I crave boring politics and sensible, dull, cautious politicians. I can't wait for the day that I wake up and don't immediately think 'what the fuck have those fucking fuckers done now?' I want to be able to ignore politics every now and again, safe in the knowledge that the people in charge can be trusted not to do anything absolutely fucking insane and awful ON A DAILY BASIS.

User135644 · 14/10/2022 13:58

This mess is down to the cap doffers who keep voting them in
