Much as it goes against the grain to say this, I cannot imagine any Tory with an ounce of intelligence wanting the job. The problem being, of course, I am not sure that Tory and "ounce of intelligence" fit in the same sentence.

christmaspudding43 · 14/10/2022 13:22

What's the score with refusing posts in government? Can they all just say yeah no, I'll sit this one out?

TheFeistyFeminist · 14/10/2022 13:23

Chancellor gone and Health Secretary next, fingers crossed. What an absolute Trussterfuck.

Spudlet · 14/10/2022 13:23

Yes, they can’t be forced to take a job. The gossip was that she already struggled to fill some of the junior ministerial roles first time around.

Fizbosshoes · 14/10/2022 13:23

Martin Lewis
Rachel Riley
Carol Vorderman
or Larry the cat

yes, basically.

PeppaPigIsBacon · 14/10/2022 13:24

I’d actually like to see some kind of national unity government next - don’t think a GE would be particularly great, but something needs to be done to sort this mess out. There must be enough sensible grown-ups across 600+ MPs, surely?

LunaTheCat · 14/10/2022 13:24

Bumpsadaisie · 14/10/2022 12:09

Give it to me Liz love. I'll have a try.

You would most likely do a a much better job than the lot of them put together!

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/10/2022 13:24

Sixsmith · 14/10/2022 12:47

Kwasi should have stayed under the sea with the rest of the Octonauts. A cat has not business being chancellor

In all fairness to cats, I understand Larry would do a better job.

Spudlet · 14/10/2022 13:25

BBC are now reporting that a group of ‘senior Tories’ are planning to call on Truss to resign next week.

I can’t see her clinging on until Christmas, tbh, even if she manages to stave this one off.

CormoranStrike · 14/10/2022 13:27

And it is Jeremy Hunt, he will be appearing at the press conference later today

OhMerde · 14/10/2022 13:27

Put Sunak in as pm. Its literally the only viable option right now.

GlumyGloomer · 14/10/2022 13:27

ShirleywasaLady · 14/10/2022 13:15

😂This post is not getting enough credit!

Barnacles for PM though.... I'd vote for him 😆

doodleygirl · 14/10/2022 13:28

How ironic, it’s the Tory MP’s and members who voted for this clusterfuck

citroenpresse · 14/10/2022 13:29

PeppaPigisBacon not true to say that you you don't have to be British to join a UK political party - you do have to be British to join Labour, for example.

watcherintherye · 14/10/2022 13:29

As pp have said, no-one in their right mind will take the job of Chancellor. The epitome of a poisoned chalice.

vera99 · 14/10/2022 13:29

Lest we forget ....

Kwarteng to be sacked today

LadyHarmby · 14/10/2022 12:07

It’s a mess but it’ll a fucking embarrassment to have another PM so soon. We look ridiculous.

We ARE ridiculous.

Imnotswallowingthat · 14/10/2022 13:31

This never gets old does it....

Kwarteng to be sacked today
CaveMum · 14/10/2022 13:32

Honestly, I’m thinking setting up The Mumsnet Party and having a crack at getting elected isn’t a half bad idea at this stage. There are enough MNers that we could field a local candidate (male or female) in pretty much every constituency. I’ll cast my vote for J K Rowling as party leader.

altmember · 14/10/2022 13:32

Stupid bitch Truss only gave him the job a month ago, she's more than complicit in the recent catastrophic governance. Kwarteng is a crook, but Truss knew that when she gave him the job, and now she's firing him as a scapegoat to try and save her own arse. Her whole cabinet is a joke - threw out the baby with the bath water when she took charge and replaced them all with her incompetent mates.

I wouldn't think anyone with any sense would want the position under her leadership. It's be like climbing back aboard the Titanic as it was going down.

citroenpresse · 14/10/2022 13:29

Nope… this is from their website.

If you’re 14 or over, not a member of another political party, and are a British citizen or have lived in the UK for a year or more, then absolutely; come on in. We need your passion, your experience and your voice in our movement.

alternatively, if you’d like an older, more experienced character, Patrick Starr?

LadyApplejack · 14/10/2022 13:34

Absolutely friggin ridiculous. Johnson gets a whopping majority. Tory MPs and media hound him out, with no decent candidates lined up. Truss is voted in, carries out the plans she said she'd implement. She gets hounded out. General election results in a shite Labour govt nearly by default, who are also not going to be able to resolve a post-Covid/war-afflicted knackered economy. So depressing.
