She has a petition on change dot org.
search for 'help me show a judge that disabled people aren't scary'

Signed.

@Lysianthus - you can make a thread including a link on the Petitions and Activism board.

www.mumsnet.com/talk/petitions_noticeboard

I think you can then make a link to that thread.
(The MNHQ policy is to prevent people spamming boards with petitions I believe though it's a bit daft IMO if there's one link from a relevant thread. )

EspressoPatronumm · 05/10/2022 11:43

I followed this since her first video it really is disgusting. She's got huntingtons ffs.

She needs air bnb to call her and not email because she's got vision issues as well I think. And she couldn't get anywhere on the website, they emailed her a couple of days ago saying theyre 'compensating' her €12.52 for her pain and suffering.

That's disgusting.

FourTeaFallOut · 05/10/2022 11:43

What the hell? An Airbnb guest was triggered by her disability and is now ruining what remains of her life with this merciless bullshit?

DysonSpheres · 05/10/2022 11:43

BooksAndHooks · 05/10/2022 11:30

I have been following this. I think it’s highly likely she was deliberately targeted knowing she was disabled when they booked the room. It is absolutely disgusting they are able to do this.

Agree with this. It smacks a bit of a gay couple in Northern Ireland who tried to sue a bakery owner for refusing to decorate a cake with 'support gay marriage'. Hmm.. perhaps there's a concerted effort going on to change the equalities act although I can't quite see how this specific case would have purchase to do that. It seems a non-starter.

It does seem targeted. Poor woman, last years of her life being made unbearably stressful😥 and I can't imagine stress doesn't exacerbate a condition like early alzheimer's hugely. I get brain fog, and any stress makes my memory a sieve.

The world is going to hell because of everyone asserting their rights without any ability to compromise or any sense of responsibility. It's going to reach a tipping point. It may well do so before any physical environmental damage caused by humans.

I mean they should just have asked for a refund & moved on shouldn't they?

Thenose · 05/10/2022 11:47

This sounds like a way for those

TimeAtTheBar · 05/10/2022 11:50

Is there any reason why she can’t just ignore this? If someone uses for an obviously made up nonsense thing, can you not just laugh and chuck the letter in the bin? Will she have to go to court? And surely the judge will throw it out?

TimeAtTheBar · 05/10/2022 11:50

Uses = sues

Doggydarling · 05/10/2022 11:51

Does anyone know what political group is backing these shower of ba#t@rds?

Lysianthus · 05/10/2022 11:51

@ErrolTheDragon
Thank you for this.

Thenose · 05/10/2022 11:53

Sorry, pressed enter too soon.

I think the other side a attempting to reduce to absurdity postmodernist Theory/trans ideology. Imagine what the judgement will look like. It has the potential to undermine trans policy in Ireland.

However, there's no excuse for causing this woman to suffer in this way (unless she's in on it, of course).

Thenose · 05/10/2022 11:54

She says the supporters are anti-woke.

Redglitter · 05/10/2022 11:56

Youd think if they thought there was a possibility a disabled person would trigger them to this extent they'd not take the risk of booking a room in someone's house & would book an entire house or hotel.

They claim to need 8 hours a day of therapy & are suing for 450000 euros

No mention so far of why its been so triggering 🙄

Joolly2 · 05/10/2022 12:02

I've just signed the petition.

Thelnebriati · 05/10/2022 12:08

The PTSD community knows that its your responsibility to manage your condition. You don't run around blaming other people for being triggered, and you don't try to dismantle equality legislation because you identify as someone who needs more rights than everyone else.

phishy · 05/10/2022 12:10

Rosehugger · 05/10/2022 10:52

I don't see what this has to do with AirBnb. It has everything to do with how bonkers and broken the USA is.

Of course it has to do with AirBnB. Their policies and response meant OP had to basically hide in her own house. They should have supported OP. And switched from a bot to a real person.

Wideawakeandconfused · 05/10/2022 12:12

I don’t understand - how do these people navigate day to day life? Do they run in ‘trigger’ fear at the sight of a disability? Is their ‘trigger’ specific visible disability, or protected characteristic?

Suggesting a hierarchy based self diagnosed mental health issues which are ‘triggered’ by those with protected characteristics is crazy and suggests this is all a Trojan horse situation.

I will be following and signing whatever I can to help.

CableTidy · 05/10/2022 12:13

The items they were triggered by included a wee fridge in the room, a video doorbell etc. it's bonkers. I've been following on TikTok and am appalled at Airbnb stance. The bookers are apparently supported by a group looking to remove disability rights Angry

Pollydon · 05/10/2022 12:22

This is one of the worst things I've read on disbaism. Its fucking diabolical.
BUT I also hope it opens a dialog around disability rights and the micro agressions that disabled people can face daily.

LunaLights · 05/10/2022 12:23

What culture does not allow its people to be around disabled people?

Etak123 · 05/10/2022 12:27

What an inspirational dignified woman. Obviously this whole ridiculous case is completely discriminatory. I know people have severe mental health problems, I’ve had my own when I was younger and now terminally ill too so it’s a subject I know a bit about and of course some people are triggered by some things, for instance I have a family member who has Down’s syndrome and she is triggered/petrified of birds so we have to take certain actions to keep her ‘safe’ and sometimes have to leave places.
Someone claiming to be triggered by other peoples disabilities sounds like a bad joke.
I would most certainly claim that someone saying they’re triggered by my disability is triggering for me (not to just pretend but because I’m absolutely disgusted and outraged by this horrendous situation)
The equality act is there to help assure everyone is given equal access and rights and to protect the vulnerable/differently abled and marginalised/easy target communities.
Please, anyone who cares for disabled people should sign the petition… I’ve just watched the vid so not sure where the petition is yet, if anyone does can you link it please? Thanks

  • Disableism. Apologies, my auto correct is shite.
TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 05/10/2022 12:27

Imagine pursuing a court case which only advertises to a huge amount of people what an absolutely colossal cunt you are?

Theres no way they’ll win, but they’re ruining the remainder of this poor unwell woman’s life. Utter utter cunts.

Bodyisbuggered · 05/10/2022 12:27

Air bnb response is awful but who is the lobby group behind the suing person? And who the hell needs 3 emotional support animals??!

This is a frightening attack on disability rights.

I've signed but is there anything else we can do to help?

As a disabled person it scares me to death that our rights might be taken away. Life is hard enough as it is!
