Spiders. My parents rented a beach house when I was three and the spiders in the bathroom are one of my earliest memories.

Rosewaterblossom · 02/10/2022 20:24

Crime Watch. I was always scared after that!

Soozikinzii · 02/10/2022 20:25

Clowns
Masks
Any dressed up character with face covered like a football mascot or Disney character
Father Christmas

Quicksand.

I lived on a council estate. I think I overestimated the threat.

I had a fear of quicksand as well as it was in the western movies it seems like. A few years ago we were walking our dogs by a reservoir/lake which they'd drained a lot of the water out. The ground leading to the edge of the water looked like flat mud and I was convinced it was quicksand. My family were walking towards it and I started yelling, "Quicksand quicksand" I really thought they were all going to get sucked in.

ItsNotReallyChaos · 02/10/2022 20:28

Somersaults in the pool (there was a badge you had to do this 'skill' for and I refused)

I had a recurring nightmare that would continue even after I'd got out of bed and switched the light on. It would just pervade all my thinking until I fully fully woke up.
I had a lot of sleep disturbance as a child and I think it might be down to poorly controlled asthma which was worse lying down.

Reservoirbogs · 02/10/2022 20:28

Quicksand for me too Grin. We actually do have quicksand warnings on a local beach Shock

NimrodNimroy · 02/10/2022 20:29

The judderman from the Smirnoff adverts late 90s or early 00s

I've always found the Casualty theme very ominous!

AlwaysGinPlease · 02/10/2022 20:29

Yes! Quick sand/sinking mud! Never proved an issue as an adult 😂

SuffolkUnicorn · 02/10/2022 20:29

Beauty and the beast not the Disney one

PurplePeach62 · 02/10/2022 20:29

Red Indians - I had a reoccurring dream they lived at the bottom of my garden and were waiting to scalp me.
60 years later and a pretty tough woman I absolutely cannot watch a cowboy and Indian film

heartbroken22 · 02/10/2022 20:30

OP what a throwback!!! Is this the Carly Beth Goosebumps episode?? If so yes still creepy!

It is!

This is from the scene where the masks all come to life and float, weave and tumble after her, out through the shop door and through the town into the graveyard.
It's the stuff of nightmares!

I found my old VHS of it in the attic and it re-ignited the trauma of my early years 😂

The dark.. still hate it 🫣

Inclinedtochatter · 02/10/2022 20:33

A tv show called Sapphire and Steel.

Lorrymum · 02/10/2022 20:34

The original 'The Invaders" TV series
Wizard Of Oz flying monkeys
Lenny The Lion

LadyApplejack · 02/10/2022 20:36

@lisaJN1986 😂😂😂 I can hear them now floating out the shop "help us Carly Beth!!!" It was on Netflix but they reduced it down to a handful of episodes, so annoying! I was also rattled by the Dummy ones, and the one with a toy town and the greedy girl being turned into a pig and chased by the mob. Goosebumps was actually really freaky 🤣

Gindrinker43 · 02/10/2022 20:36

Quicksand, water wheels and the phoenix in Phoenix and the Carpet. Well that ages me.

Plump82 · 02/10/2022 20:37

Smilelesstalkmore · 02/10/2022 19:34

The 'ghost' in Three Men and a Baby!

I was going to come on and say this too .
I had nightmares for weeks and was convinced there was a woman at my window. It was awful.

LegoFiends · 02/10/2022 20:38

The devil
Rabies
Stairs in the dark
Primary school teachers (at Catholic school)
Shrivelled saint’s hand (again, Catholic school)

Magnumpi2 · 02/10/2022 20:39

Star Trek Wrath of Khan. My dad was watching it when I walked in on the scene with the bugs in the helmets. Couldn't sleep without duvet cover over my ears well into adulthood. Hated woodlouse, for many years, because of it too.

The theme tune to 999 (90s documentary tv show)

Another for 999 but not the theme tune. I was (still am) terrified of deep water, pot holing, driving behind trucks carrying scaffolding on the motorway incase of impaling and lots of other random freakish accidents.
I wish I'd never been allowed to watch it.

Narwhaleahoy · 02/10/2022 20:42

The Wizard of Oz. Especially the wicked witch of the west and her flying monkeys. I used to hide behind the sofa and cry when they came on.
