Return to Oz the heads in cabinets. I still can’t watch it all these years later!

Tealpoppy · 02/10/2022 20:12

Slimer from the ghostbusters
in fact the whole of the ghostbusters but he really gives me the creeps

nonnyno · 02/10/2022 20:12

Steam trains. Used to hate walking past the bit where they shovel coal into the boiler. The heat, noise and smell used to scare me to death.

Andante57 · 02/10/2022 20:13

My older sister read my Oh Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad.
Terrifying story.

Homewardbound2022 · 02/10/2022 20:14

Drive through carwash

DeliberatelyObtuse · 02/10/2022 20:14

Jaws. And the fact that he lived under my bed.

Chorlton and the wheelies

@Longdistance
I thought I was the only person that remembered that! "Ello little old lady'.
😆

KatRee · 02/10/2022 20:18

There was an advert on tv for liquorice all sorts that told you if you ate too many you would turn into Bertie Basset and I genuinely couldn't work out if they were being serious or not...

Muddypaws20 · 02/10/2022 20:18

Agree with return to Oz, also the wicked witch of the west and grotbags

Shlomping1234 · 02/10/2022 20:18

The Wheeler's on Return to Oz

WonderingWanda · 02/10/2022 20:18

Mirrors in the dark. Absolutely terrified I'm going to see something supernatural in them or my faced aged. Can't even remember why now but some older girls told me something spooky once.

MoniJitchell · 02/10/2022 20:18

Going up the stairs in the dark. Still rum up them like my life depends on it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/10/2022 20:19

Threads. Petrified by the whole nuclear thing even now.
Rabies (survivors as a PP said)
Werewolves (thanks to Tales of the Unexpected although Professor Lupin helped cure that one)

Bananaman123 · 02/10/2022 20:22

Any horror movie, my aunt telling me ghosts were real really terrified me, scared to go to loo during the night etc.

LadyApplejack · 02/10/2022 20:22

OP what a throwback!!! Is this the Carly Beth Goosebumps episode?? If so yes still creepy!

Positivelypatient · 02/10/2022 20:22

Watch out watch out there's a humphrey about.... it was a tv ad for Unigate milk (1970s) and red&white stripey drinking straws would come out of keyholes etc as if to steal your milk

It terrified me.

DeadbeatYoda · 02/10/2022 20:22

Zelda from Terrahawks

Spudlover · 02/10/2022 20:22

FeralWitch · 02/10/2022 19:41

Quicksand.

I lived on a council estate. I think I overestimated the threat.

Me too! I lived near a building site and was even scared of the big piles of sand.

also:

Nuclear War
Volcanos
Peeping Toms. We had a local one and my friend’s sister apparently saw his face in the window when she was having a bath

Shodan · 02/10/2022 20:23

I had a recurring nightmare from the age of about 7 until I was an adult- I think the last time was when I was in my mid 40s, so a few years ago now. Bloody severed hands in plastic bags, men in white uniforms and a laundry trolley, a 'bad man' with a colourful Mohican haircut, an empty house where nobody knew I was- I must've seen or heard some pretty fucked up stuff for all that to appear in one nightmare. So that still scares me.

The one other thing is a very old film called, I think, Angels with Dirty Faces. The scene at the end where the guy goes behind a screen to be executed, and starts shouting in terror. I haven't watched that film since I was 10 because it scared me so much.

jpclarke · 02/10/2022 20:24

Bridges, I hate walking or driving on them.
