Watership Down
The screaming noise that foxes make (and still scares me now)
The cover of a BBC Horror Sound Effects album. My dad had the vinyl, and I made him cut the cover off. There was a face on it that really freaked me out.
I would Google it to show you all, but I don't want to see it Blush

The gallery/ hall of bodiless heads in Return to Oz (mid 80s. When she opens one of the cabinet and the head’s eye flick open…. Bloody terrifying and it’s a children’s film. Plus the scary wheeled men.

What were they thinking?!

JustWantedACat · 29/01/2023 00:45

Crime watch! The theme tune scared me!

Chocoholic1972 · 29/01/2023 01:12

A film called Beastmaster, in the early 80s. Did anyone else see it?

harrassedmumto3 · 29/01/2023 04:08

LadyApplejack · 02/10/2022 20:29

I've always found the Casualty theme very ominous!

It used to give my younger sister a sore tummy!

harrassedmumto3 · 29/01/2023 04:13

Oh, and the gap between the train and platform.

midsomermurderess · 29/01/2023 04:15

Heffalumps. And The Black Riders, Lord of the Rings was it? My dad would read it to us at bedtime and they put the fear if God into me.

Mybumlooksbig · 29/01/2023 05:38

Oompa loompas from the original Charlie and the chocolate factory film absolutely terrified me.

ScabbyHorse · 29/01/2023 05:44

Tropicaliyes · 29/01/2023 05:51

SouthCountryGirl · 29/01/2023 07:15

harrassedmumto3 · 29/01/2023 04:13

Oh, and the gap between the train and platform.

I've fallen through that. It was so scary.

The child snatcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang

Deathraystare · 29/01/2023 07:36

Electric Pylons, Daleks and Monkey Puzzle trees oh and those really tall Cacti.

Deathraystare · 29/01/2023 07:40

Oh and a book of nature. On a certain page was a very colourful blow up of a fly's face. I always dropped the book if I got to that page.

Deathraystare · 29/01/2023 07:47

@Andante57 ·
My older sister read my Oh Whistle and I’ll Come to You, My Lad.
Terrifying story.

It is on DVD too! My Dad told me about it so I had to get the DVD!

Deathraystare · 29/01/2023 07:55

I have mentioned this before but in the early 60's there were lots of fire prevention adverts.

One featured a well known newsreader (cannot remember who). You saw him first then he was the voiceover.

There was a carpark filled with prams and obvs babies crying. Then you saw the prams on fire. Obvs now I realise there was no real babies in there but then I did and wondered how the naughty newsman was not arrested!

It did not help that mum was usually doing stuff in the kitchen and not by my side but giving how unconcerned she was when the Daleks turned to me and said exterminate! I don't suppose it would have bothered her!!!

I was just as upset by a cartoon of a cat that fell in a fire.

Deathraystare · 29/01/2023 08:06

There was also something I watched on TV. This would be lae 60s/70s. All I can remember is some people trapped in a house and some giant stones outside that had eyes and were getting closer......

It was on for a few weeks but unfortunately my mum insisted on my brother and I going swimming so we never saw the last episode.

I half thought of getting the DVD but I reckon it won't have aged well. Like Randall & Hopkirk that I used to love. Bloody awful!

Lovegossip · 29/01/2023 08:12

Whoever thought Watership Down should of been targeted to Kids, I watched it and was horrified and even the song gives me goose bumps and not in a good way

Genehuntsfanclub · 29/01/2023 08:13

Wasps! Still not great with them now.

MeghanThyStallion · 29/01/2023 08:18

Not getting out of the bathroom before the flush stopped.

The monsters who lived in the mist in the same world as the Daleks (wasn't fussed about the Daleks themselves).

The vacuum cleaner.

Norfolkungood · 29/01/2023 08:19

Filters and drains in swimming pools. Even now I hate them and avoid them.
The high cistern toilet my mum had. I would flush it and run back to my bedroom.

KathieFerrars · 29/01/2023 09:17

@PerrinAybara Me too. Became absolutely terrified of rabies. Spent mNy a summer on holiday in Italy and France scared of any animal. Note - there was a programme likely pre covid about rabies in India and this amazing Dr on this closed ward with raving people. Awful and so sad.

Nuclear war
The dentist - absolutely terrified.
Dogs. Until I got one.
Swallowing chewing gum or silver paper - mother had inculcated in to me that would be instant death.
Hospitals
Actually, most things!
