Who would you expect to walk behind the coffin?

Protocol wise, I don't think Anne is "meant" to be walking behind it but she insisted when it was Prince Phillip's funeral.

This is beautiful. Centuries of finely honed tradition and ceremony immaculately executed.

Did you see just the little ripple of movement as the ratings started marching at Westminster Hall? absolutely seamless teamwork.

MenopauseSucks · 19/09/2022 12:57

I wonder if the Earl of Snowdon & Tim Lawrence are replacing the Duke of Kent & Prince Michael of Kent in the march?
Surely there'd be a row of the Queen's cousins - not a cousin, a nephew & a son-in-law?
I thought the Duke of Kent & Prince Michael of Kent met the coffin at Westminster Hall on Wednesday then formed a row with the Duke of Gloucester behind the coffin.

ShowMeYourMethod · 19/09/2022 12:57

We're the naval ratings chosen by height? Or is it one particular company/regiment (sorry don't know the correct naval term)

They are all almost the same height at the front then some very tall ones pulling the actual 'arms' of the gun carriage.

I wonder when George and Charlotte will eat?? My 9yo would not go from 11-5?? Without food....

I'm sure Kate has some biscuits in her handbag

How do you know they’re going without food? They could be snacking on something now.

RoachTheHorse · 19/09/2022 12:58

@MrsDanversGlidesAgain yes. Just beautiful work. Everything you would expect for Her Majesty.

BellePeppa · 19/09/2022 12:56

I’m finding the marching very hypnotic.

So am I.

Ah, the bell tolling again. 😭

This is all just magnificent

AnybodyAnywhere · 19/09/2022 12:58

I know it’s very trivial but I keep wondering if the spider’s hiding in the wreath wondering what the hell it’s got itself into…

MarshaBradyo · 19/09/2022 12:58

HansZimmerframe · 19/09/2022 12:54

I think this is all just truly incredible. Especially when you consider that 4.1 billion people are watching! That's more than half the world's population!

This is part of what makes us British. And to think what would happen if we have this all up. Whether you're a royalist or not, the amount of good it does for Great Britain and tourism is undeniable. The after effects from Brexit have turned into shambles and we can't go back. I hope people realise there's no going back to all of this if the monarchy was abolished.

It's amazing and incredibly powerful to watch. Especially considering it's 2022

I have been ambivalent about the RF before but it’s the pageantry and grandeur of the monarchy I would fight to keep if it came to it (not physically but you know)

JustLyra · 19/09/2022 12:58

LetMeSpeak · 19/09/2022 12:53

So why aren’t any of the ladies apart from Anne allowed to walk behind the coffin?

There’s nothing to say they’re not allowed.

Its a lot of walking. It was 40 minutes the other day and longer today.

LIZS · 19/09/2022 12:58

I'm assuming the RF will continue on to Windsor by car, eat then be ready to receive the hearse.

JoanOgden · 19/09/2022 12:58

I think they get to Windsor at 3 then get a short break before the next service at 4

PizzaFunghi · 19/09/2022 12:58

verastan · 19/09/2022 12:56

@SoupDragon when though? Aren't they following to Windsor in the car and then straight into the next service?

I wouldn't be surprised if they don't all go in the slow cortège to Windsor. Some of them might go separately. And have time to have a little break in between. If the next service is at 4.00, they must do something now

SoupDragon · 19/09/2022 12:58

Finally! The feathered helmets are "His Majesty's Body Guard of the Honourable Corps of Gentlemen at Arms". I could not find them via Google yesterday.

watcherintherye · 19/09/2022 12:58

StClare101 · 19/09/2022 12:53

We just said the same thing. Utterly ridiculous behaviour!

I just thought how sad for the Riyal Family walking in the procession and in the cars to look out into the crowds and see hordes of people with phones in the air as though it’s a photo opportunity, instead of a respectful funeral procession for their mother/gmother/ggmother.

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 12:58

How utterly surreal it must be for Doria to be in the States watching this 😱.
Trying to explain to Archie what's going on!
They only have daddy' in context in the States.

It's a hell of a walk!!

Siella · 19/09/2022 12:58

Oblomov22 · 19/09/2022 12:55

Cheers for 2nd thread OP.
Agree with pp: fitting tribute to her majesty, the whole thing has been magnificent.

Is it because she served in the forces?

In the car?

Coastalcreeksider · 19/09/2022 12:59

The sailors all come from the naval base very close to where I live, HMS Collingwood. They've been marvellous.

MossGrowsFat · 19/09/2022 12:59

SoupDragon · 19/09/2022 12:57

I like that Anne has changed outdated rules, especially when she stood guard over the coffin.

I just wondered who @LetMeSpeak thought should be walking behind the coffin. I think those that are have been chosen because of role/succession not sex.

Vapeyvapevape · 19/09/2022 12:59

BruceAndNosh · 19/09/2022 12:57

I'm sure Kate has some biscuits in her handbag

I reckon she's got a secret stash of Pom bears in her bag .

LemonSwan · 19/09/2022 12:59

Why do the horses do that throwing thing with their heads? Know nothing about horses.

CousinKrispy · 19/09/2022 12:59

Wow that one bloke is tall.

I'm sure someone's got some cheese strings available for Charlotte etc ;-)

StandUpSuzy · 19/09/2022 12:59

DillonPanthersTexas · 19/09/2022 12:55

Behind the sailors there are 16 corgis pulling the gun carriage.

😂😂😂😂 I nearly choked 😂😂😂
