I assume it's some kind of "brace". Their other hand is holding onto whatever pulls the carriage.

A.so, it's neater I guess - what else should they do with the free hand?

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 12:53

I've missed how the gun carriage is actually moving!
Are people pulling it?

Yes. It's all those Naval ratings that are pulling it.

Cornettoninja · 19/09/2022 12:54

Must be very weird being in those fish tanks of cars being stared at by the public

or comforting…. Depends on your mindset I suppose.
…………

that was a beautifully striking funeral ceremony and fitting for a woman who took her role as monarch and head of the church so devoutly.

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 12:54

It's the bell tolling that gets me

So why aren’t any of the ladies apart from Anne allowed to walk behind the coffin?

I think they would be allowed if they had chosen to

Yes, thats why the navy who are in front/behind are strapped in

LetMeSpeak · 19/09/2022 12:54

The crowd were doing such a good job why are they ruining it by cheering now?!

HansZimmerframe · 19/09/2022 12:54

I think this is all just truly incredible. Especially when you consider that 4.1 billion people are watching! That's more than half the world's population!

This is part of what makes us British. And to think what would happen if we have this all up. Whether you're a royalist or not, the amount of good it does for Great Britain and tourism is undeniable. The after effects from Brexit have turned into shambles and we can't go back. I hope people realise there's no going back to all of this if the monarchy was abolished.

It's amazing and incredibly powerful to watch. Especially considering it's 2022

I wonder when George and Charlotte will eat?? My 9yo would not go from 11-5?? Without food....

Quick question, is there a reason Prince George is wearing navy not black ?

Who would you expect to walk behind the coffin?

Oblomov22 · 19/09/2022 12:55

Cheers for 2nd thread OP.
Agree with pp: fitting tribute to her majesty, the whole thing has been magnificent.

Arbesque · 19/09/2022 12:55

So few members of public lining the route

There's an enormous crowd.

Why do you think they won't get to eat lunch?

I like that BBC is keeping the commentary down a bit.

Yes. Please shut up Huw. Less is more!

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 12:56

Yes the sailors are pulling long ropes (that's why they are linked arms to stay in rhythm). And at the back ropes too to steady and brake.

BellePeppa · 19/09/2022 12:56

I’m finding the marching very hypnotic.

Covidwoes · 19/09/2022 12:56

@elizaregina I read people pull it because during Queen Victoria's funeral, the horses got spooked so sailors had to take over. They've stuck to that tradition ever since.

Andylion · 19/09/2022 12:56

Supercal00 · 19/09/2022 12:53

Going by the statues of he parents is quite a moment

Where exactly are those statues?

JustLyra · 19/09/2022 12:56

It would be odd to have only Zara, Louise and James not involved in the procession.

Especially when there would have been space

Ndd135632 · 19/09/2022 12:56

Yep. Why is George wearing navy?

verastan · 19/09/2022 12:56

@SoupDragon when though? Aren't they following to Windsor in the car and then straight into the next service?
