Looks like Andrew was the man in medals riding in the front with the Coffin.

User287264 · 19/09/2022 15:14

Surely they're not carrying her up all those steps!

Hellocatshome · 19/09/2022 15:14

DH wants me to ask if anyone knows if the soldiers, navy people etc taking part in these processions will get anything extra for taking part i.e pay, time off, a medal etc?

KenAdams · 19/09/2022 15:14

That's a lot of steps to carry a coffin up!

Oh heck, there's a lot of steps to go up!

IsurviveonCoffeeandWinein2021 · 19/09/2022 15:15

@Hellocatshome I know they get a medal for the coronation not sure if they get anything else. Relative was a 5scot for a time

SunflowerOrange · 19/09/2022 15:15

"Steplining party" is a great phrase.

MenopauseSucks · 19/09/2022 15:16

Am seeing armed police for the first time - didn't notice any in the footage from London.

Now this walk down a country lane feels the epitomy of England.. very serene

The thing that I was most surprised about when I first moved to England was how beautiful the English countryside is. When I think of England, I think of London.

tanqueray10 · 19/09/2022 15:16

This may be a silly question but what if George or Charlotte need a wee? My kids wouldn’t be able to hold it for so long and also they’d be starving by now!

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2022 15:16

Those steps are making me anxious for sure.

Highover · 19/09/2022 15:16

This section feels very poignant as she is unaccompanied by her family

IpanemaChic · 19/09/2022 15:16

They are going up the steps, it was quite stressful for PP’s funeral (well for me).

The military are salary paid- no overtime for it. I doubt they’d get a medal. It’s the honour and privilege of being a part of this historic event that is the reward.
The Queen was very important to the military.

Singleandproud · 19/09/2022 15:16

I'd imagine for most of them taking part is enough of an honour.

This has been so lovely. I’m in Edinburgh and I’m so glad we had our time with her. But London! Wow. You know how to do this. Now it’s lovely to see all the people lining the streets.

We thought the same, but in reverse! We were in Edinburgh for the Fringe last month (go every year) and it seemed so strange seeing crowds lining the streets which we had only walked down a few weeks ago. We think Edinburgh is beautiful!

It will likely go on their record. Things may have changed by now, I've been out a long time, but when I was in, being picked and taking part was the reward.

They'll have gone now. They've had some time as the cars should have arrived first for the RF

Goodness, me too! Some job.

MrsTimRiggins · 19/09/2022 15:17

Late but the tractors lined up made me well up. I’m one of many generations of farmers and I thought that was special, given her love of the countryside.

PPPPlease · 19/09/2022 15:18

Are they carrying her up those steps now?!

MN keeps freezing and reloading -grrrr

Genvonklinkerhoffen · 19/09/2022 15:18

@Hellocatshome they will probably get some time off in lieu. If they've been away from their own unit overnight (and meet certain conditions) they will get some extra pay as well. Some of them (likely the bearer party) will possibly be appointed MVO. There will be some MBE/OBEs etc going round at the next honours list I expect.

Most of all, the prestige.

for pp asking. Some of them will have travelled from London. We don't have spare pipers etc, and the Grenadier Guards isn't big enough to do it in both places at once. Some will have been in Windsor all day ahead of this.

Dave20 · 19/09/2022 15:18

Tony Blair’s in Windsor now !

Andante57 · 19/09/2022 15:18

So the Blairs have come to both services? I wonder who else has been to both.

Singleandproud · 19/09/2022 15:18

Just got a close up on the passenger and I was wrong it wasn't Andrew.
