Oh heck, there's a lot of steps to go up!

They had to carry Prince Phillip's up those steps and it looked like extremely hard work, my heart was in my mouth for them.

Hellocatshome · 19/09/2022 15:19

That's what I said that it was an honour to be picked and that their job is to do whatever they are asked to do without overtime etc but he thought they maybe would get some sort of recognition for having taken part.

Now this walk down a country lane feels the epitomy of England.. very serene

That country lane is actually the A308 - but it does feel v rural, I agree!

GuyFawkesDay · 19/09/2022 15:19

Tony Blair is part of the order of the garter, hence both services

This may be a silly question but what if George or Charlotte need a wee? My kids wouldn’t be able to hold it for so long and also they’d be starving by now!

We were saying this too. Also Charles and Camilla. I hope they've nipped off for a loo break and a sandwich.

I hope we get to see the coffin bearers again. I've made up an entire personality for the red-head giving the orders. He makes the lower ranks scrub their floors with their toothbrushes.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/09/2022 15:20

Long Walk is rammed with people.

HN's page 'Tall Paul' Whybrew is walking in front of the hearse and there's someone behind him about half his height.

Topseyt123 · 19/09/2022 15:20

What I want to know is, has the royal spider also hitched a lift out to Windsor Castle?

LIZS · 19/09/2022 15:20

They seem to have had a minibus for those attending both, many foreign Royals were related to Queen Elizabeth. Some of those walking alongside the coffin also did so earlier.

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2022 15:21

I don't think I can watch the steps bit. And I have watched everything so far, since 9 this morning.

IpanemaChic · 19/09/2022 15:21

The Dutch royal family have just arrived at Windsor, big fan of the Dutch royals.

FoolishMortals · 19/09/2022 15:21

Oh it's so beautiful but my goodness I'm holding back the tears.

No, pretty sure I can't either. My palms were clammy watching them carry Prince Philip and I've had my fingers crossed every time the coffin has been carried.

SpinCityBlues · 19/09/2022 15:22

Deffo not Andrew in the hearse passenger seat - the medals are wrong.

PlacidPenelope · 19/09/2022 15:22

The pipe and drum music is so haunting and evocative.

I missed the royal spider. I need to know more!

MelodyPondsMum · 19/09/2022 15:22

The military bands have been fantastic.

Knittingmonster · 19/09/2022 15:23

Praying for the coffinbearers.. no pressure lads.

toomuchlaundry · 19/09/2022 15:23

I hold my breath when they are moving the coffin

FoolishMortals · 19/09/2022 15:23

I hope the driver has cruise control on at least, otherwise he will have a right stiff foot!

Diegofrompennyburn · 19/09/2022 15:23

There must be a designated royal orb-catcher, should it roll off!

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 15:24

The coaches of key dignitaries looked like they took the flyover out of London and obviously went at speed to get ahead.

Although it's a smaller ceremony I suspect the Knights of the Garter will attend - as Georges Chapel
Is their spiritual home. I know John Major is one as is Tony Blair. But it's not automatic for PMs - it was a personal appointment of the Queen.

PlacidPenelope · 19/09/2022 15:24

I've just realised the Crown, orb and sceptre are still going to be on top of the coffin going up those steps, Shock

theDudesmummy · 19/09/2022 15:24

Those ladies with the sticks and the heels are here too! I so wish I knew who they are!

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/09/2022 15:24

There are fittings for the regalia on the coffin. No-one wants a repeat of bits falling off the crown like it did at George V's funeral.

Whatthetrolley · 19/09/2022 15:25

It's a bit tight in the long walk, noticed some of the static guards being knocked about by those marching pass.
