"I'd say that the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand focus is because they are the commonwealth countries where the queen is still head of state. None of the other commonwealth countries have the UK monarch as their had of state so have no place in the procession."

Well, except there are 11 other countries who also have the UK monarch as their head of state:

To people complaining about the crowd using their phones, I think many people use them in order to see better if they’re behind folk in a crowd.

QuebecBagnet · 19/09/2022 13:18

Who are the two women walking carrying canes? Not military or royalty I don’t think?

WobblyLondoner · 19/09/2022 13:18

Who are the women in front of the gun carriage with bows/spears?

LoveMyPiano · 19/09/2022 13:18

I don't think the sand will be needed to prevent horses slipping (maybe humans though) - they will probably have either studs or tungsten -tipped nails in their shoes. And hopefully not freshly shod, so the shoes have a bit of wear on them.

Zosime · 19/09/2022 13:18

The sunlight falling through the trees on to the coffin looks lovely.

Were the middletons there? Or are they babysitting Louis?

Yes, they were there, they arrived fairly early on.

The Queen was respected so much for her years of duty and dignified ways. Sadly Charles is full of piffle and will never get the respect like the Queen did.

Well, that remains to be seen, of course. For a start, he doesn't have seventy years to establish how we'll remember him.

Benefi · 19/09/2022 13:06

Apologies if mentioned up thread but does anyone know why there’s sand on certain parts of the route?

It's not been mentioned once and nobody knew why.

Now stop it @Benefi ! 😀

HeidiWhole · 19/09/2022 13:18

What would happen if one of the navy ratings fainted? Would they just get dragged along?

BruceAndNosh · 19/09/2022 13:18

As a Londoner, I have only today learned that Hyde Park Corner is the Southern corner! I always assumed that it was the NE corner by Marble Arch

TugboatAnnie · 19/09/2022 13:13

That's what we just said. They are constantly looking around

Yes. DH recognised one of them (he used to be in the TA and spent time at Horseguards).

Yes I am also wondering that. And they seem to be walking in at least 2 inch heels.

Oh, take the day off won't you?

Thank You for your concern BordoisAgain - it must be wonderful to be so righteous

Jellykat · 19/09/2022 13:19

How many miles is this journey anyone know?

CustardySergeant · 19/09/2022 13:20

Princess Anne is obviously super-fit. I'm younger than her and I couldn't walk all that way.

MenopauseSucks · 19/09/2022 13:20

I wonder if they've got undercover security in the crowd? Probably the ones NOT holding their mobiles...

Have you never been past the Hyde Park Corner stop on a bus, or noticed where Hyde Park Corner tube station is?

Bouledeneige · 19/09/2022 13:20

I have a lot of respect for Princess Anne being part of it.

elizaregina · 19/09/2022 13:20

I could Start to talk about any ex military yes.

But the talk is about the royal family and Harry? .

No matter what the ins and outs are, I'm just saying that unlike people wearing a uniform who have never actually severed, Harry has .

Hotandbothereds · 19/09/2022 13:20

CustardySergeant · 19/09/2022 13:17

Doesn't London look wonderful? I'm so pleased the weather is dry and sunny.

Doesn’t it 😊 I bet thousands of people watching will plan visits because of this, it all looks incredible.

MinglingFlamingo · 19/09/2022 13:21

I get very confused with Wellington & Marble Arch. I know that Marble Arch is at the bottom of Oxford and Regent Streets so when I go past Wellington Arch I get very disoriented. As I think it's Marble Arch but it's not

How many miles is this journey anyone know?

2 miles from the Abbey. A lot of the procession started further up Whitehall though
