Talking of the tourism impact - DH and I watching on the couch in Melbourne, discussing whether to go to the UK for the coronation next year.

CousinKrispy · 19/09/2022 13:02

The music is beautiful

PleaseGoDontGoAgain · 19/09/2022 13:02

A few grimaces in the front row of the Navy. Must be burning a bit now

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 19/09/2022 13:02

Sorry, messed quoting up on that, trying to watch and post.

I'd say that the Australian, Canadian and New Zealand focus is because they are the commonwealth countries where the queen is still head of state. None of the other commonwealth countries have the UK monarch as their had of state so have no place in the procession.

That’s a fair point

Scoundrella · 19/09/2022 13:02

I wonder if George is in Navy to mirror Williams navy RAF uniform he’s in today

How utterly surreal it must be for Doria to be in the States watching this 😱.
Trying to explain to Archie what's going on!
They only have daddy' in context in the States.

It's a hell of a walk!!

I thought this the other day about Meghan watching Harry walk behind the coffin.
I know she has been around for the Jubilee etc, but the sense of duty Harry has had to have shown this past week must me so surreal to her, as it is to most of us.

That's right, until hs funeral only the men walked but she insisted, her father's daughter to the end!

She walked in the Queen Mother’s funeral.

Sorry if this has been answered already but what is the sand for? To stop them slipping/absorb something from the horses??

To help manuouver the gun carriage on uneven ground

IsABajan · 19/09/2022 13:03

@RAFOfficer oh thanks for explaining. I rewound it to see if I missed him salute and I was wondering why not

Flowersintheattic57 · 19/09/2022 13:03

I don’t understand why Harry isn’t allowed to wear his uniform and salute when the others do. Surely his position with RF is separate to his having a military record.

I noticed him. He's huge!

Is is HM The Queen's personal page known as Tall Pall? He was with her for years.

The sailors all come from the naval base very close to where I live, HMS Collingwood. They've been marvellous.

I wondered where they came from. My Father was based there and we lived very close

I think that's likely, Charlotte mirrored Catherine

Ooh, that’s not navy, it’s Prussian blue! 😉

He's not serving, and has given up his Royal therefore honorary military posts.

To the PP who says there aren’t that many people there. Are you joking? This is the biggest event in years. I do wonder if some people want it to fail or not be such a big thing??

It doesn’t LOOK like there are many there because SO MUCH of the route has been closed to spectators. See previous posts.

WoodlandWalks123 · 19/09/2022 13:04

Apologies if mentioned up thread but does anyone know why there’s sand on certain parts of the route?

PeloFondo · 19/09/2022 13:05

LemonSwan · 19/09/2022 12:59

Why do the horses do that throwing thing with their heads? Know nothing about horses.

Flies usually, or if they've got foam on their mouth some do it as they don't like the feeling
Mine would do it when she wanted to trot and I was stopping her but they look quite chilled so imagine it's probably flies/midges

MenopauseSucks · 19/09/2022 13:05

@JustLyra

Cheers for that! Such a shame both Duke of Kent & Prince Michael of Kent weren't able to do it.
I wonder how they would've arranged the rows if they had been there? The 3 cousins then Tim Lawrence & Earl of Snowdon behind? Or all 5 in a row?

meetmeintheautumn · 19/09/2022 13:05

What is this about a spider 🕷

It's not been mentioned once and nobody knew why.

Once you stop serving unless you leave at a certain rank your not entitled to wear uniform anymore. Other countries have different rules for veterans but the U.K. has always been like this. It’s not a personal slight against him he just isn’t entitled as he’s no longer serving and doesn’t hold any special ranks anymore

Always assumed it was to prevent the horses from slipping on the cobblestones.

He featured in the James Bond sketch. I spotted him in the march to Westminster Hall the other day.
