If you aren’t planning to watch the funeral on Monday, what will you be doing?

We have the bank holiday on Monday - I am not bothered about watching the funeral, and would quite like to make the most of the day off, but obviously everything is closed.

What is everyone planning to do if not watch the funeral?

Whilst sympathetic to any family who have lost a loved one, I have never been in the least interested in the royals, so have not been engaging with any of this. We are currently away for a lovely weekend break planned months ago and will be travelling home. We will probably stop for a couple of long walks with our dogs to drag it out a little then home for a quiet evening catching up on Netflix. I've been reading lots of books recently and my house has never been cleaner!

I will not be turning on the TV or radio and will go out for lunch and support a local business.

Thank you. We need you! I decided to open mine on Monday after stressing all week but decided, fuck it, I need to pay my massive electricity bills and closing for a funeral of someone I don't know isn't gonna do that!

70billionthnamechange we are going out for most of the day, hill walking then I am paddle boarding. We don't need a cafe or pub but have decided to support one if we find one open.

I hope you get lots of support. Our local Facebook page has been compiling a list of places which are open. From the amount of "likes" it's been a very popular idea.

We are taking dd to uni. If we weren’t doing that we were going to go to the beach to escape all the coverage on the tv/radio.
Just another bank holiday for us, not into the royal family, never watched any of the weddings or jubilee stuff, no interest whatsoever.

But @derxa it won’t be any more or less less significant for the country if I choose to go to work will it? People are allowed to choose what they want to do and how much significance they wish to place on it. That is allowed.

I have lots of work on atm so will probably get up early and do a couple of hours.
Then go for a walk. During the afternoon we're taking the kids to a soft play.

Out of pure curiosity, did you all stick to your plans and not watch it? I did watch it, well some of it, the main service and little bits before and after, then again for the second service in Windsor. Though I was kind of popping in and out , and certainly wasn't glued to it. I actually am the opposite of some here, as I planned to watch it all; but had stuff to do in the morning; and only properly sat down just before 11. I was struggling to concentrate, and I don't like militarism, so all the marching afterwards repelled me somewhat. I then realised I wasn't enjoying it that much and would rather be outdoors! I mean obviously it was spectacular and everything but... I enjoyed the music, and liked the scenes in Windsor later when I returned to it. But, got to be honest, it lasted for hours! It went on and on. I did wonder how many people were realistically able to watch it all, and started to admire those of you who were mavericks, and didn't play ball to begin with!

I didn't watch any of it.

I did some meal prep, some menu planning for next week, watched some nonsense on YouTube, did a workout, spent some time with the cat, wrote a little.

I'm happy with my decision.

I watched the parades in London and the end of the parade at Windsor but not the services as they don't really interest me. I was decorating in between which I had already planned this week ages ago, had I not been busy I may have watched more.

Didn't watch any of it. Did some work, went for a walk then studied. Which was my plan.

I had dropped my son at uni the day before and had planned to do some admin tasks for him that we could not do beforehand as we live abroad.

It was surreal yesterday... I am in London and at 08.30 there was hardly anyone around, I have pictures of empty escalators and empty platforms. I took the train to Cambridge to meet up with a lady connected to my work that I have wanted to meet for a long time. We had a wonderful time walkiing her dog and connecting in person. Walked through Cambridge and ate cake and icecream with lots of other tourists then met up with a friend I haven't seen for 4 years. By the time I came back to London, there were people everywhere again.

Strange but beautiful day.

Went out. There were hundreds of people out walking, on the beach, in the ocean, doing anything other than watching the unsettlingly alien pomp and ceremony of it all.

CaptaNoctem · 20/09/2022 09:52

Didn’t see any of it. Went for an all day hike with a picnic lunch

Yes, had a lovely day out somewhere I've always wanted to go with the family, then stopped for donuts and coffee on the way home. It was a good day to go as it was busy enough for a nice buzz, but there was no queueing for rides. The outdoor swimming pools were brilliant on such a lovely, bright sunny day. Definitely a massive win on a day that might otherwise have felt like a repetition of lockdown and I'm really grateful for them being open.

Still haven't seen any footage, but a few stills here and there as they popped up on twitter.
