If you aren’t planning to watch the funeral on Monday, what will you be doing?

We have the bank holiday on Monday - I am not bothered about watching the funeral, and would quite like to make the most of the day off, but obviously everything is closed.

What is everyone planning to do if not watch the funeral?

Jealous of those who can go to farm parks and the like: everything here is closed. Can't even get my supermarket shopping done so we'll probably just take DC to the park. They think the Scottish service was the funeral so I think adding another one is overdoing it a bit.

It did take a bit of finding!

LuftBalloons · 14/09/2022 23:24

Working (academic at start of term).

I think I'm going to see if I can find a live stream of Center Parcs.

You win MN today 😂😂😂

Sleeping after a nightshift.

Same here and also working Monday night.

Awrite · 14/09/2022 23:30

@LuftBalloons why, thank you. 😂

Guiltycat · 14/09/2022 23:36

Dc couldn’t give two hoots about watching the funeral of someone they don’t know, so we’ll just treat it like a bonus bank holiday.

So a morning walk in the local woods with dogs and dc. Then probably a lazy day of baking, will probably let the dc have Minecraft or something as telly will be a bust all day. Then a planned original trilogy LOTR movie afternoon/night because it is autistic ds current obsession.

MMAMPWGHAP · 14/09/2022 23:36

Thinking of dusting off my bike in order to stick two fingers up at British Cycling.

MammaWeasel · 14/09/2022 23:44

We will spend the morning doing chores, the afternoon doing hobbies and the evening having friends round for a meal.

Surtsey · 14/09/2022 23:48

I'd already booked the whole week off work to do some gardening and much needed clearing of clutter in the house, so I shall probably be doing that. I feel like I should watch it, but at the same time I don't think I can.

Sorting out last minute bits and pieces in preparation for my father's funeral the following day. A difficult time has been made harder by the constant coverage of the preparation for the Queen's serviceConfused

hellosunshineagainxxx · 14/09/2022 23:50

Working

Sorry about your father and to hear this @Myfoundation

My Dsis friend has had to change the date if her dc’s funeral and she is heartbroken. Ridiculous that people are being forced to delay their own actual grieving for this.

FatOaf · 14/09/2022 23:56

Working (from home). The work doesn't disappear just because someone decided it's a bank holiday.

Eggza · 14/09/2022 23:57

Bike ride if the weather is OK or an on demand spin class then some gaming.

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 14/09/2022 23:58

Working (care and support worker)

Cutting my toe nails while having a glass of something nice .

Myfoundation · 15/09/2022 00:04

Thank you @Guiltycat
Yes, unfortunately I know of someone else who had a family members funeral booked for Monday, it will involve so much extra stress to rearrange it all as family were coming from all over the country.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 15/09/2022 00:16

We are going to a wonderful pub in Surrey on the river Wey, we are interested, but neither of us can be doing with the length of time they will take with it all, we will come home, and watch it on catch up. Win Win.

AuntTwacky · 15/09/2022 00:18

Swimming 🏊‍♀️

mindutopia · 15/09/2022 00:21

Working. Dh (also self employed) drew the short straw for childcare this time. I’d love to be able to watch it! But balancing work and kids is frankly a massive ballache on a surprise bank holiday.

Benjaminsniddlegrass · 15/09/2022 00:21

Beach Monday! Heading to the coast with good friends and their kids. Swim in the sea, firepit with sausages and s'mores on the beach, probably glass of fizz. Can't wait.

DH has got to go into work in the morning, DD is working and I'm planning to build my new Lego set and eat snacks with a Spotify playlist on in the background.

What an amazing day 😍 that sounds perfect

Mulhollandmagoo · 15/09/2022 00:28

@Guiltycat that is shocking 😳 I cannot imagine how awful that must be for her, bad enough she has lost her child but having to arrange the funeral twice must be heartbreaking

I am so, so sorry.

I loved the queen but will not be watching the funeral. Hate funerals, and no offence but these ones are way too long. Really want to open my cafe but so sick of hearing the fucking d word (disrespectful) so guess I'll just lose the money instead. Even tho I know so many who would come. Hate the nations mentality sometimes
