If you aren’t planning to watch the funeral on Monday, what will you be doing?

We have the bank holiday on Monday - I am not bothered about watching the funeral, and would quite like to make the most of the day off, but obviously everything is closed.

What is everyone planning to do if not watch the funeral?

I've been wondering what's appropriate. It doesn't seem right to treat it as a "holiday". I'm not bothered about it all either, but neither do I want to be obviously disrespectful.

Well, as I'll be on holiday for the week on a boat (booked months ago), I've not got much choice! I guess we may catch a bit of the coverage on an iPad but we'll be cruising, watching wildlife etc.

DillDanding · 14/09/2022 22:14

Al large group of us are meeting at a pub (yes, we’ve checked it’s open). Dh and I will
be cycling there if weather is ok.

DS2 is having a ‘gathering’ as the young folk call it. So we will probably return home to a bunch of rowdy 20 year olds.

TabithaTittlemouse · 14/09/2022 22:15

Working although might watch a bit with patients if they want to.

StealingYourWiFi · 14/09/2022 22:17

I’ll be on holiday abroad. Will probably watch it in the bar if I can be arsed to tear myself from my sun lounger

StarlingsInTheRoof · 14/09/2022 22:17

Gardening if the weather is dry enough. Normal bank holidays are time to do fun things. Obviously can't do that this time. I am sure the highlights will be on the news forevermore, so doubt I will escape watching the funeral over all.

CrabbyCat · 14/09/2022 22:17

If it's fine, I'll spend the day in the garden with the DC as DH will be away. I'd very happily go out with them for the day but round here everything I've checked is shut for the day.

ButchersGirl · 14/09/2022 22:17

A group of friends and I are going hiking and will be enjoying a nice picnic. We'll be celebrating life in general.

Because living matters, not dying.

Haudyourwheesht · 14/09/2022 22:19

Jealous of those who can go to farm parks and the like: everything here is closed. Can't even get my supermarket shopping done so we'll probably just take DC to the park. They think the Scottish service was the funeral so I think adding another one is overdoing it a bit.

ihatesoaps · 14/09/2022 22:20

I don't want to work as I want to watch the funeral but I have to work as I'm not allowed the day off

I'm gutted

Battybonkers · 14/09/2022 22:21

Well, I shan’t be going to center parcs. 😬

I'll be working (NHS). I expect DH and our student-age DDs might go for a walk, bake a cake ( its DH birthday), and the girls might do some art together. None of us will go near a TV unless i have to walk past the big one in the patient waiting room.

Frances658 · 14/09/2022 22:22

Nice walk with the dog, a bit of housework, then family movie with pizza and snacks.

Southeastdweller · 14/09/2022 22:22

I don't know...maybe watching grass grow, not sure.

ChaToilLeam · 14/09/2022 22:23

Working (non-UK), but even if I had the day off, I wouldn’t watch the funeral. I‘d do one of my hobbies instead.

Undisclosedlocation · 14/09/2022 22:24

Travelling to a cottage holiday booked months ago. Will stop off for a walk on route and spend the evening avoiding the tv……maybe decamp to a pub if one is open

billybassie · 14/09/2022 22:24

I'm on holiday abroad. I won't be giving it a single thought.

Libertyqueen · 14/09/2022 22:25

I will watch the funeral when my kids are in bed on catch up but don’t feel the need to watch it live and have small kids who I would love to spend a nice day off school with.

I’m trying to find something fun that’s open but seems impossible. Anyone know of anything family friendly that’s open in London?

ThereIsATInWater · 14/09/2022 22:26

Might sort the airing cupboard out, but that is a massive job .

Might get paint and let DC paint their bedroom.

Don't know yet.

Clevs · 14/09/2022 22:26

Sleeping after a nightshift.

BearBibble · 14/09/2022 22:31

Working (NHS). They've already sent a message out asking if anyone can volunteer to come in early so they're obviously anticipating a shitshow of a shift with staff unable to get in etc.

FrecklesMalone · 14/09/2022 22:33

I was thinking of going somewhere that is usually really busy (like Snowdon) but can't work out of it will be really busy because everything is shut or empty because everyone is watching the funeral. Of the people I know most only have a passing interest in the royals and won't be arsed to watch it, but according to the press and social media we can't do anything else.

lljkk · 14/09/2022 22:34

working in office or kayaking

moneybeingwasted · 14/09/2022 22:34
