IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

I think she probably is, because otherwise they will have to do a coffin swap (for the one with the body in) before the funeral, and the logistics seem tricky enough without adding that extra step in.

Not that it really matters. A box with a body in doesn't give the viewer a different experience to a box with no body in.

Hmm that is an own goal for the monarchy. Why isn’t Anne on the list?

To far down the line of succession. She's what about 15? Maybe 20? Lady Louise is above Anne.

Is it true that Andrew will be taking on official duties as a Counsellor of state? What does that title mean? I thought he was removed from official roles.

I read it was either Beatrice or Eugenie not Andrew?

There’s just so much going on in the world that I don’t have the mental and emotional capacity to deal with - climate breakdown approaching lethal tipping points, Ukraine, Syria, refugees drowning in the Med and our own government barring the doors and sending them to Rwanda, kids going to school hungry, Jacob Rees Mogg, the Amazon rainforest being destroyed, the Uyghurs, Burma, Covid, corruption, the possibility of a second Trump term…
In comparison ”The Queen died, she was very old.” just doesn’t feel that important or significant. Yes, it’s an era coming to an end, but she was 96 FFS, it’s not a surprise, and it’s not like having Charles instead is going to make a difference to people’s lives. The idea that this is more important than everything else going on right now and events must be cancelled really pisses me off. The football tournament for deprived kids mentioned in this thread for example. Just awful.

My small protest action today is to "like" literally every news item that appears on Facebook that is not royalty related.

It literally goes down the .ine of succession, minus children. They'd need to get a specific act of parliament to remove Andrew and/or harry. So they are both 'it', also now Beatrice.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/09/2022 13:16

So I'm literally pasting my own comment from another thread, as it so irks me that the coverage of all of this has been so saccharine. Do you remember these scandals?

...the now Earl of Snowden , was Lord Linley, ref him being bought in by Charles to head up his charities: His business went bust and lost control of it. He then worked for Christie's.

Does he still work for the charity? Not sure. I remember when he was appointed, he was 2nd in command to Michael Fawcett. Remember him, aka Fawcett the Fence, as Charles used him to sell off expensive gifts. He had to be sacked, twice I think. He wad also the Chap who used to put the paste on Charles' toothbrush.

^ That wasn't a euphemism! But do you remember when news came of a blackmail attempt, pics of a royal taking coke and getting ( blown? wanked off? ) and we all assumed it was Charles and Fawcett? Or Edward? But it was Linley.

How quickly we forget these scandals!

TambourineOfRepentance · 14/09/2022 13:26

Sorry if I'm being a bit dense, but why would Andrew be ahead of Anne in the line of succession? I always assumed it was in order of age, but is it sons first??

TambourineOfRepentance · 14/09/2022 13:27

Nevermind, just googled and saw why. Good to know they're keeping up with the modern age. 🤨

Yes it used to be ,it was changed a few years ago so Charlotte is ahead of Louis is the line of succession, but it doesn't work retrospectively.

I've seen the Is she in the coffin? thread. I'd not be surprised to hear that she is indeed in the coffin but the responses are predictably and depressingly credulous, and seem to be based on the idea that Princess Anne wouldn't stand for it. But then was the crown on the coffin during the procession? I heard somewhere that the crown of Scotland is effectively the representative of the monarch, so if it was on a empty coffin then in pageantry terms it isn't automatically unthinkable that the RF would follow it.

I'm not sure why she wouldn't be in the coffin though?

It did cross my mind whether they'd have been able to prepare the body and seal the coffin in the necessary way at Balmoral, given the length of time the coffin is on public display, and if that were the case then I could believe that the family follow a symbol and meanwhile the body is somewhere being prepared.

Sorry this is maybe not the right place for my musings but I don't think the audience in that other thread would have appreciated it.

The 'Queen isn't in the coffin' thread is interesting.

A friend who is a former protection officer swears blind HM's body has been in London since Wed/Thurs last week due to a few things that someone in the know will have picked up on, but no, the thread is full of people rubbishing the idea that the royals would go through the pantomime of following around an empty coffin, because as we know, nothing about royalty or the associated pageantry is ever ridiculous, purely for show, mired in centuries out of date superstition, or tholed through gritted teeth by those involved.

It wouldn’t be the first time that they have used a bit of razzle dazzle to keep us all quiet. They have done it for centuries. Charles II used to do a bit of crown wearing so that his detractors were cowed by his supposed divine right of kingship.

They have all the more reason to do it this time. Charles accepting bags full of cash from Saudi mates. Andrew being best mates with a sex trafficker. Charles having been best mates with Jimmy Saville. Charles having sacked a load of staff this week. The sovereign grant going up whilst the cost of living crisis bites. Etc etc.

The scenes on the news of the coffin being carried out of a military aircraft draped in a flag, to be met by a solemn committee amid ludicrous ceremony, then paraded through the streets like some sort of Disneyland of woe, make me worry that the world has gone mad. Thank god for this thread. Why do we need all the barmy pageantry?

TheSpottedZebra · 14/09/2022 14:14

Bread and circuses, isn't it?

TheSpottedZebra · 14/09/2022 14:15

The Royal walkabout was only brought in in 1977 due to declining support and claims that they were too remote.

barbrahunter · 14/09/2022 14:17

That's a powerful and fitting phrase Disneyland of woe

Precipice · 14/09/2022 14:33

This simple anti-monarchist design mildly amused me yesterday (www.redbubble.com/i/sticker/Abolish-the-Monarchy-Queen-in-the-Bin-by-CampbellDarius/110781618.EJUG5) Not appropriate for her given she's just died, but I think they should make one for the still living Charles (it's about the symbol, not the person anyway).

I just switched it on and caught the young lads having to pick it up and all I can think is how terrifying to be responsible for being a pall bearer for this

OneFrenchEgg · 14/09/2022 15:13

Also why are there all these funeral type readings and ceremonies? There's another one now.

OneFrenchEgg · 14/09/2022 15:29

Why are people shouting God Save the King? It's so weird like a Blackadder episode

Bretonbear · 14/09/2022 15:33

Those blokes guarding the coffin in 6 hour stints! FFS we have CCTV now.

OneFrenchEgg · 14/09/2022 15:36

Yes I was thinking that. So archaic. You could have them somewhere comfortable - I hate that for the sake of some posh entitled family normal people are put into discomfort

I’m not sure I can take much more, some people on MN are utterly batshit. I’ve read some proper corker posts this week on here.

OneFrenchEgg · 14/09/2022 15:54

Now showing the queue. Bloody hell. Just why.

ParkheadParadise · 14/09/2022 15:57

Here's a thought
Jimmy Savilles mate Auld Charlie is 73.
So probably in my lifetime he will kick the bucket
And all this fuckin shit will start again.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Bretonbear · 14/09/2022 16:00

It's all becoming very surreal now just watching this whole pantomime play out. It's hilarious how brainwashed people are.
