IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

Local Facebook page has just announced that the food bank is closed on Monday. So people can be respectfully hungry I imagine.

Indeed ,never mind people haven't eaten its all about respect 🙄

It's disgustingly condescending, I just posted on it, and was as restrained as I could force myself to be.

I knew I gave up smoking too soon.

I have un-given up

LindyLou2020 · 14/09/2022 10:37

I've just come on to this thread, and haven't got the time right now to read it all - apologies.
I just wanted to say, if no-one has done so already, that there is a long-established pressure group called Republic, which campaigns peacefully, reasonably, eloquently, and knowledgably, for the abolition of the Monarchy.
It costs very little to join.
It's one thing for us to vent, (with perfectly good reason of course), on MN, but quite another to try and do something about it.

Interested in this thread?

Yes you are right to mention them

They are planning protests

Same here. The people going hungry wasn't something that ever seemed to bother her much so perhaps it is respectful after all!

@bluemonkey101 .......but there IS a voice for people who don't want an hereditary Head of State.
PLEASE look up Republic, a pressure group which campaigns for the abolition of the monarchy.
Sorry to mention them again, but they feel just as strongly as PPs on this thread!

Sorry, my last post was meant to quote, and reply to, @bluemonkey101 on page 6 of this thread 🙄

The 'Queen isn't in the coffin' thread is interesting.

A friend who is a former protection officer swears blind HM's body has been in London since Wed/Thurs last week due to a few things that someone in the know will have picked up on, but no, the thread is full of people rubbishing the idea that the royals would go through the pantomime of following around an empty coffin, because as we know, nothing about royalty or the associated pageantry is ever ridiculous, purely for show, mired in centuries out of date superstition, or tholed through gritted teeth by those involved.

Omg my people! I have been posting angrily on other threads all week. The most eye rolly one was a thread asking if the royals “just do it for duty?” - like no QUITE CLEARLY they do it for power, status and immense wealth! Duty is literally bollocks, a way to make the system seem noble, rather than just a relic of an outdated time when a select few had complete power over the illiterate masses.

I prefer the old kings and queens as at least they had to put in the effort, risk beheading etc, to stay in power - this bunch have just absolutely lucked out, democracy ironically creating a peaceful country where they will never be booted off the throne by a jealous cousin.

The BBC website is INSANE right now, literally two thirds of the articles are royal family related. I wouldn’t mind so much if it was tributes to the Queen but it’s more than that, just breathless coverage of all the rest of the ridiculousness with, as a PP said, absolutely no balance and reminder that there are other political systems on offer.

Octomore · 14/09/2022 11:17

A shop that I had been intending to go to on Monday has said that they'll close between 11am and 1pm (the time of the funeral) so staff can watch if they wish, and will give 1% of profits from the day to the Red Cross (which the Queen was patron of), but otherwise will do business as normal.

That seemed like a sensible compromise to me. It's a pity that hospitals aren't taking a similar approach for essential medical appointments. It's not disrespectful to acknowledge that life goes on and that there are more important things in the world than the funeral of one human being.

Blueberrywitch · 14/09/2022 11:18

I was actually feeling quite somber on Friday but as it goes on I’m getting decidedly cross and becoming more of a rapid republican 😂

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 14/09/2022 11:32

I mean, what the fuck were the boards of hospitals thinking with cancelling appointments and operations? This time last week the headlines were screaming about NHS waiting times, but they sat there on Friday and thought, yeah fuck it, let's put more people's life-saving procedures back EVEN further.

And it's not like they're delayed by one day is it? They'll be delayed for weeks until the surgical teams required can be brought back together.

It's utterly fucking disgraceful. But I suppose it does indeed reflect and respect the general sentiment of the RF about us little people.

PurpleParrotfish · 14/09/2022 11:33

There’s just so much going on in the world that I don’t have the mental and emotional capacity to deal with - climate breakdown approaching lethal tipping points, Ukraine, Syria, refugees drowning in the Med and our own government barring the doors and sending them to Rwanda, kids going to school hungry, Jacob Rees Mogg, the Amazon rainforest being destroyed, the Uyghurs, Burma, Covid, corruption, the possibility of a second Trump term…
In comparison ”The Queen died, she was very old.” just doesn’t feel that important or significant. Yes, it’s an era coming to an end, but she was 96 FFS, it’s not a surprise, and it’s not like having Charles instead is going to make a difference to people’s lives. The idea that this is more important than everything else going on right now and events must be cancelled really pisses me off. The football tournament for deprived kids mentioned in this thread for example. Just awful.

TheSpottedZebra · 14/09/2022 11:43

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 14/09/2022 08:58

Yeah, I feel the same. And yet weirdly Scotsnet is a Sturgeon-hating SNP BAD stronghold, there's little room there for genuine discussion either.

Not sure this is the place for me any more either.

No, they're the Bad Scots.

The good Scots (Scotch?) are the tweed wearing, cap doffing, serfs, living every day like day like was the 19th century. They live in the Highlands and do jobs like gamekeeper, butcher and possibly nurse. They are draped in tartan. They may appear on the BBC this week.

Please note, there is no middle ground.

Ps I'm soooo annoyed at the stereotypical portrayal of Scotland.

Cats23 · 14/09/2022 11:43

It's my DD's bday on Monday.
We won't be doing our usual day trip to a local attraction ,as everything is closed!
But we have plenty of beaches and parks so I'm hoping it will be sunny.
I won't be watching the funeral ect.

FourChimneys · 14/09/2022 11:57

Sorry to be incompetent but can anyone do a link to the queen isn't in the coffin thread please?
TIA

User1563 · 14/09/2022 12:02

Is it true that Andrew will be taking on official duties as a Counsellor of state? What does that title mean? I thought he was removed from official roles.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 14/09/2022 12:07

Prince Andrew can get in the fucking sea, and so can anyone who facilitates his role and staus in public life. Weren't we told that Charles and William weren't in favour of him, and it was Liz who was? Maybe that was yet another line.

OneFrenchEgg · 14/09/2022 12:08

This just made me laugh.
Im happy for them to get on with it so long as it doesn't affect me, but now a hospital appointment has been pushed back four weeks and I've lost some hours at work it's annoying me.

It needs an act of parliament to change it. Basically the spouse and 4? 5? of the blood royals, of age, can act as deputies if the monarch is out of the country or indisposed. But it goes in order of who is closest to throne.

So Camilla, William, Harry, Andrew and now Beatrice. Its not really a duty as such, it just 'is'.

Nb they'd need 2 signatures of the above, if they ever do need them.

User1563 · 14/09/2022 12:20

Hmm that is an own goal for the monarchy. Why isn’t Anne on the list?

I did say to my dad, "DO you think she is in the coffin?" because they were talking about the coffin moving but no mention of queenie
