A thread for those who are not royalist

IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

A thread for those who are not royalist

I'm outraged that surgeries, funerals and other long planned events are being cancelled. Why fuck up average people's lives for the funeral of a privileged monarch who is supposed to be a servant of the people. It's so so wrong. The cancellations will cause more backlogs and will not just affect people who had those plans for that day. Are weddings being cancelled? Who is reimbursing all the people being shafted

💚💚💚💚

Me too and I'm so sorry for your loss.

From UK but live in Ireland and have been amazed at the lunacy here re sharing those vomitous poems etc 🙄

Media are helping greatly to whip up hysteria ignoring the economic crisis which will hit us like an express train soon enough.

The hysteria works mostly on those who either haven't suffered close/tragic bereavement themselves, don't have anything much in life to cry about, or young people who want to "remember" the moment without the knowledge of how royals rose to their position.

Yes it's sad but she wasn't my mother or grandmother. Some respect is due like to any human being but this is already going for far too long.

I am saving my tears for close family and friends.

Someone just started a thread called 'the Queen is finally home' and my fingers are absolutely itching. I'll be good though.

That has rankled me, but not as much as the thread 'thanking' Scottish people for seeing off their own Queen like we've simply borrowed her from England for a bit. It's astoundingly condescending, but absolutely typical of the blinkered Anglocentric nature of the UK.

To top it off, the same thread is full of praise for amazing Scots and assuring us that we punch above our weight, yet bring up the prospect of Scotland governing itself independently and this same website runs immediately to fetch the 'too wee, too poor, too stupid' playbook.

MyLovelyPen · 13/09/2022 22:12

@XDownwiththissortofthingX bloody good point well made.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 13/09/2022 22:12

It's disgustingly condescending, I just posted on it, and was as restrained as I could force myself to be.

I knew I gave up smoking too soon.

Good thread. I'm getting pretty close to cringing myself inside out. Five days we've had of this now.

Thing that's pissing me off too is the BBC are totally misrepresenting Brits to the rest of the world as if we're all totally gaga over the royals. In reality I think the general public are neither royalist nor republican just...apathetic.

The BBC are totally out of touch Nicholss Witchall can be as obsequious as he wants but he doesn't speak for me as much as he would love too .

Motorcycleemptyness · 13/09/2022 22:15

I am fast losing my patience with it all as well. I’ve started to despise Paddington, the twee marmalade sandwich eating bastard.

Charles seems like a right cunt as well. Did you see the face he pulled when he was gesturing to have that ink well (or whatever it was) removed from the desk? The entire world was watching and that’s how he speaks to his staff. What a nob.

People are arrested for shouting at Andrew; and yet he is still walking the streets after having sex with a very young, trafficked, woman and openly fraternising with a convicted sex offender. Pretty sure the queen paid off the settlement in the end. Can you imagine the AIBU? ‘DS2 has been mixed up in a bad crowd (some of them are convicted sex offenders) and been accused of raping a vulnerable 17 year old. He is in his forties. Am I being unreasonable to give him millions of £ to make the problem go away? We have a big family party coming up in July!’

its a joke.

inmyslippers · 13/09/2022 22:15

Found my people

jesusjoan · 13/09/2022 22:16

@x2boys This should be the end of wee Nicky Witchell. Even Charles hates him. Totally surplus to requirements now.

Motorcycleemptyness · 13/09/2022 22:16

Ahem, the big family party was in June, sorry!

Decidualcast · 13/09/2022 22:16

Sick to fucking death of the disruption to ordinary people’s lives. I asked my yoga studio if they’d be open on Monday. Teacher said he hoped so as he will lose his earnings. Meanwhile, Charles pays zero inheritance tax. Despite my anti-monarchy sentiments, I admired Liz, however, things are getting very silly.

Octomore · 13/09/2022 22:16

Most people I know are just carrying on at work as normal. Most I've chatted to say that it's not particularly sad because she was an old woman who'd come to the end of what was a full and interesting life. I don't know anyone planning to view the coffin or anything.

The media make it look as though everyone is wailing and grieving.

Indeed didn't " king" and i say it even though it's sticks in my throat Charles call him that awful man or similar?

jesusjoan · 13/09/2022 22:21

@x2boys Yes, totally despises him apparently and Witchell is fully aware of it. I mean, have a bit of dignity son!

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/09/2022 22:26

@Motorcycleemptyness

One of the most sickening things about that payoff is the Queen did not give Andrew 12 million quid despite her estimated £350million personal estate, it came from public funds.

jesusjoan · 13/09/2022 22:29

Have just read the 'To say thank you to the people of Scotland' thread and I can tell you, if half the folk on that thread came to Scotland they'd be ran right out of town.

KingChanter · 13/09/2022 22:31

Yes! And more yes!

I really do find that the people weeping and wailing are those who have never had any actual personal sadness so they're going all out on this.

I'm sure her family are understandably sad but I couldn't give a damn. I have my own sad losses to grieve, I don't to manufacture extra sadnesses.

I can't blame the Scottish people ,I wish I could sat the same for the English
I'm Irish by descent so I'm sticking to my Irish heritage ( Irish father)

Baystard · 13/09/2022 22:37

Can I join you?

I think royalists are scoring a bit of an own-goal this week. They'd have been better to have kept things a bit less bat-shit and quietly passed the reins to Charles. I'd never have described myself as a republican and always understood the Royal family as an eccentric PR machine but I'm quite pissed off by it all already - we're on the cliff edge of a recession and yet the media reporting nothing but the Royal family, our elected politicians parading about, and lots of people about to lose a day's wages.

I can't believe that her nearest and dearest wouldn't also want to mourn in private.

Don't get me started on arresting peaceful protesters Angry

Kezzie200 · 13/09/2022 22:39

I'm not a royalist but had time for the Queen because she was of an era. An era I think should now cease with her demise.

Any other 96 year old is likely to find their families having a celebration of life rather than miserable funeral. This whole sombre affair is ridiculous.

Bretonbear · 13/09/2022 22:40

Read the 'what will be open on the 19th' thread... we are being told that we should all be staying home and watching the funeral'. How very dare we think about anything else.

XDownwiththissortofthingX · 13/09/2022 22:45

@Baystard

Yes, the optics of it are terrible.

I totally get that it's the funerial event of a long-standing, and generally well respected monarch, but you'd think that against the background of impending penury, constitutional division in Scotland, they'd have been a bit more circumspect and toned it down just a wee bit.

I think the entire thing has been orchestrated as a calculated gamble that it wound engender pro-UK, pro-Monarchy, and pro-Britain sentiment, and while I think there will undoubtedly be a short term 'bounce' in that regard, there has been a lot of disquiet about the aspects I've mentioned, among others, and I think longer term it's going to backfire and harden more Scots towards the belief that this antiquated nonsense needs fired into the dustbin of history where it belongs.

The way the media carries on, and a lot of the threads on this site in particular absolutely reek of this being a case of Scotland being viewed as some quaint little themepark for the amusement of the 'real' part of the UK south of the border, the implication being that 'aw.. look, they love us and our Royals really'.

It's completely out of touch with reality.
