IF YOU ARE A ROYALIST, DO NOT READ.

I’m getting fed up with all the posts saying we need to show respect blah blah blah.

Well, I don’t care. I won’t be watching the funeral either.

I’ve seen so many memes shared that have made me laugh, but I won’t share them here cos I reckon the thread will get deleted.

So if you aren’t a royalist, come and talk about anything and everything. Share a funny meme. Or something sweet

I’ll start with the sweetest thing I’ve read in whole

Our city was due to host a football tournament and had invited children suffering from social exclusion, including kids from Ukraine and Afghanistan.

Guess what? Cancelled due to 'respect'. So all those kids got off their flights only to be packed off home again.

I'm furious and sad about that.

The woman lobbied parliament to hide her wealth from us all as she knew she was offensively rich in a country of poor people. It was disgusting.

People are brainwashed fools, bringing bloody marmalade to BP. I mean, grow the fuck up.

god but that felt good.

Funking hell that's awful those poor bloody kids .

Not a royalist in particular here, but do you really not understand the absolutely massive cultural impact the queen had/that whether you agree with it or not she was a huge icon worldwide? Of course it’s a really really big deal that she died and it’s absolutely nothing like a random 96 year old dying.

It's not a really really big deal to me. And it IS to me EXACTLY like a random 96 year old dying.

Knittingnanny2 · 13/09/2022 21:18

It’s all completely over the top. She was 96. It is not tragic. My stepchildren lost their mother at 9 and 10, that was tragic. My parents died in their late 80’s, again not tragic.
I turned the 6 o clock news on tonight and I felt that Huw Edwards was just running out of things to say.
The marmalade sandwich thing is beyond bonkers.
The cost of the massive piles of flowers in our town hall square could have fed and clothed some of our poorest families.

I got a months Netflix sub as radio 4 and all TV and news unwatchable. I'm watching the headlines and odd snippets in the hope of some other news

This sanctification of someone who was born into immense privilege , who died at a good age in the place she loved surrounded by the people she loved, is baffling to me.

Watching King Charles swearing and grimacing over a leaky fountain pen today when he was signing a visitor's book, was an insight into his obvious issue with temper tantrums. People going on about the stress he's under and the exhaustion to make it seem ok behaviour. My Dad died suddenly of a heart attack at 2 am. We had to bury him that day. I'd been up all night in hospital with him, was in town registering his death the next morning, notifying the burial people and relatives and sorting out food for after the service. I wouldn't have dreamed of swearing and tantruming over something stupid at people who didnt intend to cause a minor inconvenience. Same when my Mum died. It gave a glimpse of the real Charles did that.

There is real tragedy all around us. This is not a tragedy.

JackieCollinsExistentialQuestionTime · 13/09/2022 21:22

Thanks for this thread.

I’m really struggling with the intense coverage. I’m not a fan of the royal family anyway but I’ve just spent two weeks in the children’s hospital with my daughter.

We’re there a lot and the struggles of the families we see in there are haunting. Families who struggle every day. I’m just not in the headspace for this. I just can’t help wishing that I could redirect some of the compassion, urgency and respect to tragedies that are really worth our tears and time.

Aside from all of that, it’s the contrast between this and the impending Dickensian winter. But what you can do - the appetite for subjugation in this country is puzzling. 🤷🏼‍♀️

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 13/09/2022 21:24

I just saw literally one minute of the BBC news, and someone said these two things one after the other.

We had a Queen, and now we have a King.

And -

The Queen is irreplaceable.

Um, she was literally replaced by her son within hours of dying, and existed in a hereditary monarchical structure. She's the exact definition of replaceable!!

Awrite · 13/09/2022 21:28

Bunch of degenerates.

Can't stand the fawning. Can't stand reverence. Can't stand how out of lockstep to the rest of the nation I feel.

Thank God for my old Dad. I was able to have a right old rant to him about it, get it all off my chest.

Has the UK lost its collective mind? Or even just their memories about Andrew?

Exactly my uncle died a few weeks ago he was 85 obviously his grown up children are upset and his wife of nearly 60 years and my mum who was sister but he had a good life was a well respected Doctor for many years ,his funeral whilst sad was a lovely occasion where lots of family members were able to catch up and reminisce, it wasn't a tragic occasion.

Bretonbear · 13/09/2022 21:34

I just feel like people have all gone very weird with all this - people this week will have lost immediate family members and loved ones and cannot move for all this faux mourning over a very rich woman who lived a long life. It is as if the world has stopped and nothing else matters.

Stellaris22 · 13/09/2022 21:35

I've had to 'snooze' so many people on FB because of it, honestly, the fawning and rubbish was too much. Lost quite a bit of respect for them as well.

We are facing a cost of living crisis and a horrible winter, but we should 'show respect' for some immensely privileged and out of touch people? No thanks.

We are just not discussing it in our house as it's such a non issue.

I'm outraged at people being arrested for protesting, why are we celebrating the life of people we can't criticise? Why are we celebrating people who have police stop any form of protest against them?

But do you not understand that her massive cultural impact was a result of a flawed and redundant system that has no actual meaning and was intrinsically deeply unfair? That some people might feel angry that their loved ones had insignificant and short lives because they did not experience such immense privilege?

Absolutely. It’s very alienating!

Featuredcreature · 13/09/2022 21:44

I love people wanging on about the cultural aspect, ffs I was watching twitch at the time, they just go "OK" and move on. People in this country seem to be so superficially sentimental, but actually deeply uncaring about people in need, I imagine them all as Mary from gogglebox, simpering away whilst cloistered in a privelidged enclave.

Thank you. I needed that laugh!

Travis1 · 13/09/2022 21:46

Thank fuck for this thread. I really was beginning to think o was the strange one. I just can’t wait for it all to be over.

Stellaris22 · 13/09/2022 21:49

People I work with are happy that they're losing pay or being forced to use up holiday because the store will be closed, so they can 'mourn'. I don't get it.

You are not allowed to mention how wasteful all the flower laying is. 🤐

I have Monday off now but trying to decide what to do with an unexpected day.

I’m planning on having a hangover and staying in bed all day sleeping it off 😂

Someone just started a thread called 'the Queen is finally home' and my fingers are absolutely itching. I'll be good though.

JackieCollinsExistentialQuestionTime · 13/09/2022 22:03

I wonder what Paddington would make of the Queen’s guards given their bloody big hats are made of bear fur. It’d be a living nightmare for a bear!

Good thread. I'm getting pretty close to cringing myself inside out. Five days we've had of this now.

Thing that's pissing me off too is the BBC are totally misrepresenting Brits to the rest of the world as if we're all totally gaga over the royals. In reality I think the general public are neither royalist nor republican just...apathetic.
