I’m just wondering how they do a 6 hour journey. Do they have stops for loo breaks? Do they change drivers.?

Thanks for helping me out with the timelines everyone. Appreciate it.

I suppose some of you might think I am a lazy mare for not looking it up myself!

It was over the coffin. They must have removed it from the coffin when stopped for a break as when arriving in Edinburgh the coffin wasnt covered with it. Quite a few people commented on it so they must have picked that mistake up.

I didn’t see it at any time with out the cover.

RhannionKPSS · 11/09/2022 17:18

The flag was on the coffin when we saw the hearse go passed us less than an hour ago, as we were in the Canongate.

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2022 17:24

And it was on the coffin when it was taken into Holyrood. What are you talking about?

TrashyPanda · 11/09/2022 17:36

The aerial shots of Edinburgh were so beautiful.

was so moved when Anne curtesied. What an amazing lady she is.

BMW6 · 11/09/2022 17:40

I didn't see the coffin not covered by the Rotal standard at any point - are you sure you weren't looking at the spare hearse?

mamabear715 · 11/09/2022 17:44

Despite a lifetime of keeping a straight face in all eventualities, I thought the Princess Royal looked absolutely devastated.. poor lady.

LIZS · 11/09/2022 17:48

There was one point where cameras seemed to show the standard had slipped over the corner but I think it was the dark corner of the flag and a dip in the light from the overhead shot.

Namechangeforthis88 · 11/09/2022 17:55

Just back, Edinburgh showed up! There must have been tens of thousands of people.

Mumsnut · 11/09/2022 17:58

Wish Anne could be Duke of Edinburgh.

Agree. It was heartbreaking seeing her. She looks like she's aged in the past few days. That's no criticism - I wouldn't be able to do what she's doing in those circumstances. It must be exhausting (the true meaning, not just a bit tiring).

She is also quite forgotten a lot of the time. I think she doesnt want all the fuss and spectacle of royal life but nevertheless, its not that well known how much work she does.

Curious as to what changed? Sorry, I can't work out which earlier comment this relates to.

I was really happy that people from Dundee also showed up along the Kingsway. I watched it from thousands of miles away but I really did want to be there with my people.

The horses lined up!!

How beautiful ❤️.

Doesn't seem like much protection going first. Where are all the vehicles we saw earlier on, are they well behind or well ahead.

I wonder if anyone is playing a bagpipes somewhere

There was 2 people playing bagpipes as they entered Dundee, I was in the crowd

My first thought was what about loo breaks! I am off that age!!

They might have those portable urinal things, so they can pee en route without stopping. 😄

They had a 40 minute stop at Brechin Castle for a break.

Stupid primogeniture. That someone of Anne's character was overtaken in 'rank' by someone of Andrew's <ahem> worth is bonkers.

But didn’t the late Queen give her the title of Princess Royal to even up the score a bit so to speak.

Mumwhodrums · 11/09/2022 18:28

Yes my brother was there and said the police had to remove some people with placards about imperialism etc 😬

Zosime · 11/09/2022 18:30

Yes, and I believe she and Mark Phillips were offered a title when they married, but they declined it.

Actually re Anne it's very telling really that it was her not the queen's beloved Andrews who had been with her all this time and it's Anne who is now traveling with her.

Usually it is the daughters left to support their mum's I appreciate Charles was also on hand but is now busy.

I wonder how much else Anne has done because it's always the queen and Andrew supposedly!.

I think she was always close to Princess Anne. I remember someone who worked at Hampton Court Palace telling the story of a very old lady who was one of the last grace and favour residents warning them when "the girls" were due to visit. Apparently "the girls" were the Queen and Princess Anne at the respective ages of around 60 and 85.

WeegieGranny2022 · 11/09/2022 18:45

For anyone who wants to watch the cortege again, it doesn't appear to be available on the bbc iplayer. But some of it is available on YouTube, on The Telegraph channel.

"Watch again: Late Queen's coffin cortege journey in Scotland and scenes around Buckingham Palace".

It is not complete, and has no commentary, but you will see our spectacular scenery. Afaik, it was filmed by police helicopter, and the bbc added its comments as film was relayed to them.

CaveMum · 11/09/2022 18:59

Princess Royal is always given to the eldest daughter I thought? Don’t think it was a special one just for Anne? When William is King, Charlotte will be Princess Royal.

Yes, and I believe she and Mark Phillips were offered a title when they married, but they declined it.

And there were offers of titles for her children, Peter and Zara, too I believe when they were born but Princess Anne declined, knowing that they would never be closely in line to the accession and she wanted them to have as ‘normal’ a life as possible and to be able to make their own way in the world. Wise woman.

It is heartbreaking to see the normally stoic Anne so overcome though of course it is more than completely understandable.
