I’m just wondering how they do a 6 hour journey. Do they have stops for loo breaks? Do they change drivers.?

It was over the coffin. They must have removed it from the coffin when stopped for a break as when arriving in Edinburgh the coffin wasnt covered with it. Quite a few people commented on it so they must have picked that mistake up.

I feel for the pall bearers, so much responsibility (with a lead lined coffin)

It looked like there was a spare hearse as well.
The scenery looked amazing
(But I can imagine it is a pain for local people, if main roads etc are closed )

Main roads weren’t closed until just before the cortège went through, where I was.

Sophie and Anne curtseyed so deeply.

Very fair play to Princess Anne - after getting out of a car after all that time I can barely hobble, let alone curtsy like that.

Oh Princess Anne just curtsyed as the coffin was carried in 😭

😭

What was?

UrsulaPandress · 11/09/2022 16:40

yes what was?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/09/2022 16:43

The Royal Standard (hope I've got that right) and the wreath were there all the time, weren't they?

Stunning scenery and everywhere in Scotland looks wonderful. No wonder they loved you up there.

I am following from abroad at the minute, so am barely keeping up here. However I thought the Queen was to repose in St. Giles cathedral, yet I see she is at Hollyrood. My knowledge of these places is not good, so I just wondered if I got things wrong.

She’ll go to St Giles tomorrow.

lollipoprainbow · 11/09/2022 16:49

@sidewayswalking it was a lovely moment

No, the BBC got it wrong, so have confused people. HMQ will move from Holyrood to St Giles tomorrow (for public lying in state) and then to London on Tuesday. I think.

greenhousegal · 11/09/2022 16:51

Ah I see now, thanks for clearing that up for me.

Blossomtoes · 11/09/2022 16:51

Those tractors. Princess Royal’s deep curtesy. I’m in bits.

IMustMakeAmends · 11/09/2022 16:54

I'm just back in from viewing the cortege as it passed through the Kingdom of Fife on the way to Edinburgh. The overpass I went to was packed

Same. I felt like there wasn't a lot of information available about where to go, where would be safe to park/stand etc, and when. We ended up not being in a great spot but unsure where would have been better. I guess they didn't have masses of time to organise it all and it's a hard one logistically, with the rolling closures. It was a lovely moment and I'm glad we took the children to something they'll never witness again.

Maybe they stop at a military base. Anne might need the loo.

She's my age and it was my first thought, I certainly couldn't do a 6 hours journey without a 'comfort break'! I did hear one of the talking heads saying that there would be a rest break for the driver! Hopefully the kettle's on at Holyrood,

greenhousegal · 11/09/2022 16:58

One more question if I may, will the passage of the cortege to St. Giles be on TV (Sky live as I am abroad), and if so, what time would I watch, thanks.

It will be on Tv as the royal family will walk behind the coffin and there will be a service that a lot of the family attend.

there’s a timeline on the bbc site, I can’t remember times off hand sorry.

JustLyra · 11/09/2022 17:03

@greenhousegal Apparently they will leave Holyroodhouse at around 2.30pm

WhatWouldHopperDo · 11/09/2022 17:03

My DH is a Funeral Director and he was holding his breath as they took the coffin out of the hearse. So much pressure for those people.

I also thought how weird for the man in the second row of seats in the hearse. He’s just spent 6 hours with his head a foot away from the queens feet. How surreal it must be for all of them.

Tebay would be a bit off-track Wink

If you read the thread, or any of the coverage, you'd know they did stop though. But not in Tebay.

If they'd stopped at Tebay they would need a new sat-nav!

I always cringe because I recall Churchill's funeral where one of the pall barers slipped on the steps.

elizaregina · 11/09/2022 17:10

Thanks for this thread op hopefully it will pick up the next movements.
I thought the journey was absolutely beautiful and really showed off Scotland!
When she comes to London it will feel Very grand and city like so to see this gentler, country side was absolutely perfect I thought!

NanaNelly · 11/09/2022 17:11

they had a 45 minute stop scheduled at Brechin Castle.

lollipoprainbow · 11/09/2022 17:13

Her staff st Balmoral must have been heartbroken at her leaving for the last time. 😢
