Has anyone else become more of a royalist over the last few days?

I have.

I have always said I loved the queen, but wasn’t sure about Charles and the future of the monarchy beyond Elizabeth II. I love a bit of tradition and pomp, but not too much, and actually feel sorry for people born into the Royal Family, rather than jealous of them.

I have also been reminded about just how awesome the Queen was.

However, I feel an unexpected warmth towards Charles, and look forward to seeing him and Camilla step up.

I would definitely say I am more of a Royalist than I was 4 days ago, and was just wondering if anyone else can identity with this?

OP posts:

Nope.

MrsBirkett · 10/09/2022 12:57

No. The opposite in fact.

No.

Yes, I know what you mean OP.

Icedlatteplease · 10/09/2022 12:59

Nope. Suddenly change from indifference to get rid

LadyKenya · 10/09/2022 13:00

I would hope that they do not spend loads of money on the funeral, or coronation, especially in light of what is going on in the Country at this time.

Dogmatic posters on here have actually made me feel more republican.

AuntieMarys · 10/09/2022 13:02

The reverse is true for me.

Plump82 · 10/09/2022 13:04

Nope, not at all. Can't this be an opportunity to abolish the monarchy

GoodVibesHere · 10/09/2022 13:05

God no.

PileofLogs · 10/09/2022 13:05

I feel the same, OP.

mynamesnotsam · 10/09/2022 13:13

No

DancingBudgie · 10/09/2022 13:13

No. If anything it's made me even more of a republican.
Especially when the spoilt bratty adulterer Charlie is going to be getting just over 83 million a year, along with his land rents etc, when there's us commoners worrying about affording basic bills.

Inkanta · 10/09/2022 13:16

No I'm afraid it feels over. I'm trying to be positive but times are changing.

YourLipsMyLipsApocalypse · 10/09/2022 13:16

Nope, still shysters who lobbied the government to hide their wealth from the proles.

Helgadaley · 10/09/2022 13:18

Yes. I'm loving all the ceremony that the UK is so good at. I love watching a bit of history being made.

Grantanow · 10/09/2022 13:21

No. But I think having a random peg to fill the hole may be important. In a republican UK we could have had Thatcher as President for Life given all those who thought she was wonderful or Johnson given those who want him back.

grey12 · 10/09/2022 13:22

No

Yup. Spending millions on pagentry when ordinary folk may well be going without food and heating in the next few months and there isn't a magic money tree (apart from when it concerns huge businesses)..

thatsjusttheticket · 10/09/2022 13:26

Yes! I've really surprised myself as I had zero feelings towards the monarchy before. If anything I thought they were pointless. I feel swept up in the history of it I think. Have really enjoyed watching it.

Pumpkintopf · 10/09/2022 13:29

Yes op, absolutely

PlattyJubes · 10/09/2022 13:30

Yes particularly after reading some of the threads on here which are quite nasty and lacking in common decency so soon after a death.

I was v fond of the Queen but had mixed feelings about the Monarchy in general. However I feel that all countries and societies have leaders and I actually feel that a constitutional monarchy is not a bad thing. Of course I have an issue with vast wealth held by a small number of people but other countries have this too and at least the Monarch feels that they are there to serve the country rather than make it all about themselves. I daresay I will be criticised for my views but I can live with it.

Giggorata · 10/09/2022 13:32

Yes. I always respected the Queen for her lifetime of work and service, and her impeccable behaviour. When Charles returned to the Palace, I found it quite touching and I too felt unexpected warmth towards him.

It has hit home to me what a lifetime of training and service really means in this unique family, privileged, but in a gilded cage.
Those who try to escape from it don't find it easy either, as we've seen.

I quite enjoyed all the pomp and pageantry, too.
Considering what the dull grey republics in the world look like, the idea of prime ministers being presidents and no King's Guard, trumpeters in brocade and convoluted eccentricities of ritual… I am a bit more of a royalist than I was last week.
I’m a bit surprised at myself, but there it is.
