Cannot get over the queen was working two days ago…

I’m not a royalist by any means but I do feel sad with the queens passing, she seemed a lovely old lady and like many has been a constant all throughout my life…

But OMG I cannot get over than literally 48 hours ago she was still doing duties and standing shaking Liz’s hand looking though frail, smiley and every bit the part, just how?!

She really was incredible.

Yes ,I agree.

There has been little hint or preparation for this.
It's out of the blue, with other royal deaths there has been a clear wind down! We get emotionally prepared.

This is very out of the blue.

I know, this is one of the things that has struck me the most. The picture of her there in her tartan skirt and cardigan smiling, carrying out her duties without fuss 2 days before she died.

Playplayaway · 08/09/2022 21:54

Yes it's amazing looking at that photo of her. She does look genuinely happy. I expect the corgies weren't too far away.

Wickywickyyow · 08/09/2022 21:54

Best way really. Far more terrible to think if her suffering for weeks on end.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/09/2022 21:55

I love that she died in Scotland with her dogs where she was happiest

I'm really cheered by that

Ilovelindor · 08/09/2022 21:55

I was talking with a colleague the other day about how some people seem to 'Wait' to die. They want to see a particular event or date and then its like they're happy to go then.

I wonder if she was waiting to make sure Bojo was gone. Then once she knew the PM was sorted, she could rest easy.

ButterflyBitch · 08/09/2022 21:55

Must admit, I can’t wrap my head around that. So professional. I don’t think we know what happened yet, so I don’t know if she was already poorly or if it was sudden but either way. 96 and still rocking it. Fair play to her. Much respect.

nokitchen · 08/09/2022 21:55

She was a top bird. Well played Queen.

PlanetNormal · 08/09/2022 21:55

I don’t think anyone trying to tell her that she was to frail to do one of the most important parts of her job, appointing a Prime Minister, would have got very far.

This. To the end. She said she would, and she did.

TokyoSushi · 08/09/2022 21:56

I think it's quite comforting to know that she must have felt reasonably ok only 2 days ago. That last picture of her in the cardi and the kilt is absolutely lovely too.

BiscuitLover3678 · 08/09/2022 21:56

She’s incredible but it makes me sad in a way to think how hard she worked, doing her duty above anything else right until the end. Poor woman didn’t just sit in a chair and rest did she! So amazing.

StressfulBedtimes · 08/09/2022 21:58

Just an all round remarkable woman
So strong, right to the end

picklemewalnuts · 08/09/2022 21:59

Totally agree. What dedication.

I hope I'm not shaking hands with people I care little for, in my last days.

From the little she said publicly- I gather that she was resolute to never abducte and to serve for her whole life.

She achieved this clearly, working until two days before her passing. What can you say but offer her huge respect, I am glad she got a peaceful end doing exactly as she wished.

PurplePansy05 · 08/09/2022 22:00

It's not surprising, it's how she's always been. Glad she went on her terms.

And despite the fact I don't like Liz Truss, you have to give it to her, it's the fucking hardest start to a new job you could possibly imagine - BoJo leaving the country in chaos, cost of living crisis, post-pandemic world, war in Europe and on day 2, the Queen dies after 70 years on the throne. How she held it together during her speech this evening, I don't know, but I for sure don't envy her. I think on a personal level it must be really hard to have met the Queen so recently and be given this job and then have to come out to pay tribute to her.

ThePontiacBandit · 08/09/2022 22:00

I don’t feel like it’s out of the blue. I think there’s been hints she hasn’t been well for a long time. Less royal duties, seen in public less, vague excuses…I wonder if she had been ill for some time. I do think she powered through to see her 70th jubilee celebrations and possibly Boris go! The picture of her shaking Liz Truss’ hand shows a big bruise on the right. I had a bruise like that after I had a cannula in my hand..I wonder if they gave her some fluids in the days before she met Liz…consummate professional to the end. I hope she didn’t suffer to do that meeting. Hope she’s at peace now.

70billionthnamechange · 08/09/2022 22:02

I'm gonna be telling my pathetic staff who can't turn up for a shift and they're young and healthy. Puts them to shame.

I wonder if she was the type of women to do this she would have been around and such a formidable character for so long…

I think there is a likelihood that if you allow old age in and slow down the body and brain start to go.

I was assuming that she had decided when to go like her grandfather

OnceRuralNowUrbanbliss · 08/09/2022 22:09

This is the biggest headf*ck seeing her smiley on Tues then gone today. I can't abide Truss but do feel for her being the last public person to shake her hand.

Do you suppose it was a stroke or heart attack in her sleep which took her. I like to think so. That she never saw her concerned and sad children gathered by her at the end that she had a nice normal evening then never woke up.

She totally was a boss legend.

They must have known as the family all came plus the announcement showed something was up I thought that's unusual but didn't think she'd die.
Not a royalist but you have to admire her sense of duty.
