That’s Queen consort, of course, but that idea is going to take a lot of getting used to.

But in fairness Charles wasn't much of a catch was he? Could you?

Diana loved him. And she did. At least twice.

He was quite the playboy back in the day.

Not bad at all 😉

Yes - just posted this on another thread but here it is again:

Camilla Parker Bowles is now the Queen.

There's obviously a massive back story but as she's very likable with a good sense of humour, so good luck to her and our King.

It's not clear what they are though unless you want to use titles all the time. What is Kate's surname now? Windsor? Wales? Do any of them really have one? I know the children are known as George Cambridge etc at school but it is known as rather than their actual name I think.

Surely even the most ardent royalist needs a way of more quickly and easily referring to the Duchess of Cambridge than to always say the Duchess of Cambridge and Kate Middleton fits the bill. If she doesn't have an official new surname then surely she is still a Middleton anyway.

Mountbatten -Windsor isn't it?

I don’t think they ever loved each other. One wanted a wife who would make the public happy the other wanted the status and glory. I know we aren’t supposed to speak ill of the dead and there’s been a bizarre martyrisation of Diana since her death but she was very clearly a fake seeker

Some people on here have no fucking dignity.

disgraceful pathetic thread.

No dignity like Camilla, being involved with a married man for so long. Being involved with a married man has always been frown upon in MN, just not if you’re the queen ha ha

J0y · 10/09/2022 08:01

Well even on MN the OW can be forgiven after 40 years??

Sandra1984 · 10/09/2022 08:06

Well, can someone please tell me what has this woman done besides being born with a silver spoon and marrying well? 🤔

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 10/09/2022 08:08

So pathetic that people are still crying about the affair 40 years later, when Charles and Diana were in a miserable (and essentially and arranged) marriage where they both had affairs.

And as to the PP criticising her for her teeth - what a nasty, probably jealous, bully

Brideandpredjudice · 08/09/2022 19:33

Have some respect, instead of spreading lies at a time like this

Oh, please. I doubt the couple will be sobbing into their pillows, and we're all entitled to an opinion ... respectful or otherwise.

TartanGirl1 · 10/09/2022 08:31

The Queen Mothers title was Queen Consort. Philip declined King Consort as he didn't want to see overshadow the Queen which let's face it 70 years ago it would of been King first...

Well, just off the top of my head she has campaigned and raised awareness for women fleeing domestic violence and sexual assault after she visited rape crisis centres.

She has done a lot of work for osteopetrosis charities after her mum died and has helped to highlight an issue that is often overlooked.

She's a champion of children's literacy and patron of a number of charities to that effect.

She undertook over 350 public engagements last year.

Personally, I think for years she has quietly worked behind the scenes getting on with things and trying to help causes that she cares about. If Diana had been working alongside rape crisis centres and charities helping children learn to read we would have heard all about it, it would have been all over the news. I respect the fact that Camilla has just cracked on with it behind the scenes.

Philip didn’t decline King consort. That was never an option for him.

Yes. But more so as he’s getting older. He’s rather lovely on the eye. And that voice ……

NanaNelly · 10/09/2022 08:44

@Sandra1984 her work with domestic and sexual violence is well known and when she speaks about it you can tell she’s had experience of it through friends and family - she makes no bones about it. She’s very clear on the fact it can happen to anyone and it’s obvious she just doesn’t brush up on notes about it that are handed to her before an official engagement.

Then there are the other things listed by another poster.

I’ll never condone what went on in the past but her achievements since marrying Charles have been very quietly impressive.

miserablecat · 10/09/2022 09:13

Sorry for the derail but did Charles and Camilla have a relationship before she married?
Was she not not deemed suitable as a Royal wife (in the first instance when he married Diana?)

Yes, they did.

Snowiscold · 10/09/2022 09:17

And no, she wasn’t deemed suitable as a wife.

Kellie45 · 10/09/2022 09:21

I believe she was not considered suitable as a royal wife as she had ‘history’ and was a Catholic, but if Charles hadn’t dithered he might have married her in the first place. As it was she married Parker-Bowles but found he was a serial adulterer so that did not work out and it ended in divorce. But to me the past is the past and i& we were all judged on our past mistakes then none of us would make it. Amuses me that certain columnists who pour out self-righteousness are on their umpteenth affair! 😀

mdh2020 · 10/09/2022 09:24

Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother was also Queen Consort. It’s the official name for the wife of a king. She isn’t Camilla Parker Bowles. She’s been the Duchess of Cornwall for 17 years. She does a lot of good work and is a solid influence on her husband so let’s just wish her well.

Snowiscold · 10/09/2022 09:35

Camilla also was a commoner, without any noble or royal blood.

Or Diana, apparently. So she too lacked dignity then.

IcedPurple · 10/09/2022 12:05

I believe she was not considered suitable as a royal wife as she had ‘history’ and was a Catholic,

Camilla's first husband was Catholic but she herself is Anglican.

Given that at the time of their wedding in 2005, marriage to a Catholic would have taken Charles out of the line of succession, there's no way Camilla could have been Catholic without it being a major constitutional crisis.

Allmyarseandpeggymartin · 11/09/2022 03:32

Yep Camilla wasn’t catholic nor did she ever convert which I always think is interesting as both her children were brought up as catholic, perhaps she’s always held out hope that one day she might be reunited with Charles her great love.

I wonder if he’d not been the heir to the throne if he’d had been allowed to marry her in the 70s but as people have said other members of the royal family deemed her too old, a commoner, wasn’t a “virgin” etc
