That’s Queen consort, of course, but that idea is going to take a lot of getting used to.

King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra; King George V and Queen Mary; King George VI and Queen Elizabeth - so why suddenly is the wife of the king to be titled Queen Consort?

It's a sop to the Diana fanatics. It won't be widely used in practice though.

LovingTheseAutumnSnippets · 09/09/2022 11:22

I don't like the term Queen Consort. It sounds like the King's bit on the side.

SenecaFallsRedux · 09/09/2022 11:29

I think for now it is to distinguish Camilla from the late Queen. In time, I think the official reference to Camilla will be HM The Queen as it was for Alexandra, Mary, and Elizabeth while they were married to Kings.

Just how the Diana Crazies like it!

She really should be Queen Camilla. Time people moved on.

A person doesn't have to be a ‘Diana Crazie’ to have their personal thoughts on those who have committed adultery or helped someone else to.

Personally, it’s not something I’d ever condone regardless of whether it was a friend or family member or a Head of State doing it.

It is what it is though and no one is ever all bad.

Agreed. Divorce is normal and you don’t make ongoing references to ex-wives in real life.

‘Consort’ will be dropped from vocabulary anyway, people will just say King and Queen.

TugboatAnnie · 09/09/2022 12:05

Yes, it's early days. The vocabulary will settle down at some point.

I think there will be just as many who continue to say Charles and Camilla or The King and Camilla.

Antarcticant · 09/09/2022 12:08

When they married, there were well-wishers outside the register office with 'Chaz and Milly' banners, but it never caught on.

worriedatthistime · 09/09/2022 12:09

@BloodyHellKen yes its surprising people are so jealous or have so much hatred towards it all
Its not all its cracked up to be

RoseAndRose · 09/09/2022 12:14

"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.
"The King and The Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow"

I think they only put it like that to make it clear that the King is to travel with his wife, not accompanying his mother's coffin.

I think it will be TM the King and Queen, certainly after the funeral and interment at Windsor means there can be no real scope for confusion

I don’t want to talk about it btw. My point is, I think we should leave the past in the past.

bloodyplanes · 09/09/2022 12:30

Why are people so obsessed with Charles and Camilla committing adultery but they neglect to mention the marriages Diana ruined/ tried to ruin? All three were flawed people who made mistakes, time to get over it tbh! If Prince William is happy with his father's marriage and his step mother's elevation to queen consort then quite frankly its no one else's business!

harrystylesbeard · 09/09/2022 12:32

Camilla is the love of Charles life, she is his wife and works bloody hard. She attended 397 royal engagements last year. She supports charities in health, literacy, supporting victims of rape and sexual abuse and domestic violence, empowering women; food; animals and heritage, and the arts. She has also inherited some charities from Her Majesty The Queen, including Barnardo’s, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, and The Royal School of Needlework.

She is not his bit on the side. She is his much loved wife and deserves to be up there with him.

Plus I think she would be laugh having a glass of gin with...

Also, why do people consistently overlook that Charles also had another mistress as well before and (possibly) in the early days of his first marriage?

bloodyplanes · 09/09/2022 13:35

@EdithWeston and who was this other mistress?

See, a lot of this, people don't know about. Diana, it would have been emblazoned in the media. Camilla seems to just get on with stuff and do her job.

My cousin has met her a number of times and apparently she's lovely and very chatty.

I don’t think we should play adultery top trumps.

Well if based solely on numbers of extra marital affairs the Diana would win (possibly the Duke of Edinburgh topped her?)

But Top Trumps you can of course have additional catgegories- maybe attractiveness, stamina, most press exposure, longevity (Charles wins that one)

BrokenMatress · 09/09/2022 14:06

More categories for extra marital partners
Most like your spouse (William)
Ugliest (Sarah Ferguson)
Best on a horse (Anne or the Queen)

TheMoonisaBalloon · 09/09/2022 15:33

What is concerning is that Camilla is setting unreasonable expectations for all the OWs out there.
She has shown that even if you cheat on your husband, dress frumpy, smoke, have bad teeth, and enjoy, on horseback, following a pack of dogs tearing furry animals apart for fun you can still get your prince (if you wait long enough)...
