If the Queen passes what will happen?

Regardless of your view in the RF, the Queen has been a huge figure nationally and worldwide for a really long time, her death is going to have an impact.

In terms of immediate impact on ordinary members of the public what will happen?

A period of national mourning? What does that mean?

Schools closed? For the funeral?

Sporting fixtures cancelled?

Things like that, or will it all be business as usual with silences used as appropriate respect?

Apparently the funeral is 9 days after she dies. Everything shuts on the day of the funeral inc the stock exchange.

Well. I’m a lecturer and in a panic that the funeral will be on the first day of the academic year. Because lectures will be cancelled inc year 1 welcome and I’ll never get a lecture theatre booked for another day, no room capacity

I felt a bit emotional earlier, mainly because all her family are with her and thats quite nice for them in a way

But also, conversely that being who she is, seems to entitle all of us to speculate that shes going to die, all these messages flying in from all and sundry around the world, from world leaders etc as if she has already died!!

And thats quite sad in a way.

I presume people wouldnt be making those comments or the comments being published if this was just another period of ill health, they must know that she is going to die

I hate ‘passed’ or ‘passed away’. It is so twee. Just say died.

Anyway, I hope there’ll be no enforced mourning or doom laden radio music. Surely it’s for those that a. care or b. are close to her.

I strongly suspect she died a number of hours ago and they wanted the family to get there before they announced it.

Not a royalist. Didn't think I would be sad. But I am not ashamed to say that hit hard.

@bellac11 same, maybe because she's always there & the U.K. seems to be in so much turmoil at the moment.

Might be one of these occasions when if you have nothing nice to say, keep your mouth shut.

I'm not a Royalist but it seems a sad day after a couple of years of sad and strange times.
