Going to be moving into my car

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 14:53

So the order has come. I have six weeks to be out of the house.
Been trying to find somewhere to rent since I was first told my tenant would not be renewed in March.
Nothing!
Properties going for more than twice what I'm paying now.
I live alone, self employed and have cancer. My income doesn't now meet the minimum threshold for a tenancy.
Council will only offer a bedsit - so I would be able to keep my dogs. Have already given up my other animals.

So I'm a few weeks my dogs and I will move into my car ☹️

Because you can do most of it by phone like most people !

You need a registered address for tax purposes, though, which OP won't have if she lives in her car.

orbitalcrisis · 03/09/2022 20:10

You can take the bedsit and stay in your car anyway. At least then you will have an option to stay somewhere else.

Mumadof3 · 03/09/2022 20:10

I would advice you go to citizens advice OP. I live in Exeter also and it's just at the top of town near the old bus station. The should be able to give UK good advice in the. Could also pop into the council themselves aswell to get advice. I'm pretty sure the advice is to stay put and refuse the leave until you get an eviction notice and then at that point you will get put on priority bidding which is band a. But you can also get band be possible based on your medical needs so maybe ring Devon home choice also and speak to them and upping your band. I'm guessing your on band c or d from the numbers you are coming in at on the bids you gave. So yea stay put and get band A that's your best chance you will literally get a place in a week of bidding. May mean staying in your car for a few weeks I'm pretty sure they arent going to leave a lady in her car with cancer for months over the winter. You may feel bad about staying in the private let but that's what your gonna have to do unfortunately. Can I ask why your being asked to leave? Are they selling just wanting it back or dont want to extent contract ?
Regarding possibly living in your car though at least make it as comfortable as possible. Go out doors have alot of stock and do a £5 yearly membership card that makes everything alot cheaper. A pop up camper is an option also. Really small and easy to tow some have heaters ect and they have fixed beds. Have a Google to see what I mean. I really hope everything works out for you.

This was my thought

Same here..
Or be gifted a chunk of money?

Excuse after excuse-
Give me your spare Country house with garden as I am Ill with reactive ( modern word for fear aggressive?) dog.

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 20:09

@KweenieBeanz your completely missing the point that I HAVE NOT been offered a bedsit!!! It is the only thing the council will allow me to bid on. But I have not been offered or turned down a bedsit! I am more than 100 down the list for one!

No but people have posted quite a few potential private options you've said you wouldn't consider due to your dog's needs. You do seem to be placing their needs above your own need for secure housing which tbh feels foolish when you're already poorly.

What was the point of this thread at all because all you've done is bite people's heads off who are trying to make constructive suggestions

Apparently to vent. But when you post about a difficult situation you’re in, generally people try to help and she does seem to be being quite aggressive to people that are trying to think of things to help.

What would be the plan for your dogs if you had to go into hospital OP?

I have emergency plans for a few days maybe a week. But they would not be able to have them for any longer than that.
And that's because I have someone who will put their dog into kennels (which I would pay for) so they could look after mine. It's not a practice solution more than very short term.

Can people please try and understand that people who own a dog see them as important as others would a child the bond is that strong it's as simple as that.
Please stop the threats of reporting the OP for cruelty it's disgusting and is not helping mental well being !

Eastangular2000 · 03/09/2022 20:12

You are likely to find it difficult to get a private rental as you have refused to leave your current rental and the LL has had to go to court to evict you. No sensible landlord will rent to you if they have any other options. You say that everything is twice the price of your current rental so you are obviously paying very substantially below market rent. It seems from your other threads that this all originated because your LL wanted a 23% rent increase which based on what you are saying would still have been well below market rent, you refused this and then somewhat unsurprisingly they issued you a section 21. There have been a number of times when you could have made alternative choices that would perhaps have led to a different outcome. Unfortunately you are now in a very difficult circumstance and unwilling to compromise at all.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/09/2022 20:12

i am glad the car is your dog's safe space @Dobbysgotthesocks

She hates second home owners, that’s been made clear on other threads. 😬

I haven't been offered a bedsit

i thought you had been offered a bedsit but no dogs were allowed? @Dobbysgotthesocks

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/09/2022 20:13

anyway, i am sure something will turn up

Brideandpredjudice · 03/09/2022 20:13

Can you please explain how a house without a garden but WITH a toilet, kitchen, shower, bed, dog bed, fridge etc... is a worse option than living in a car?

MissingNashville · 03/09/2022 20:14

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 20:12

But you said they would offer you one in your OP? So when they do, take it. They can’t stop you having the dogs in for a few hours, live between the cat and bedsit?

MissingNashville · 03/09/2022 20:15

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/09/2022 20:15

So your dogs are ok with some people other than you then?

I am going to leave this thread now.

Thank you to all the posters who have posted support and advice. I have listened to them all and it has confirmed to me at least that I really have covered all my basis which gives me some comfort at least.
I will try shelter and MacMillan again. I am also going to try and be rebanded by the council to see if I can be a higher priority.
I will also do more research into finding a static caravan.

To those suggesting I want money. I don't. I earn sufficient money to be able to afford the private rentals that suit my needs the issue is they are not being offered. None of them know of my eviction so it isn't that. Nor is money and issue as my parents have offered to help if needs be. I'm sorry that some of you are so cynical.

The eviction will be an issue when they ask for your references.

What’s the plan for when it’s -5 at night or you car needs repairs? If living in a car was a viable option, people would do it.
Buy a camper van? Still not great, but better.

Fucking hell. This thread.

There was a blog, years ago now, by a woman who was living in her car. It was heartbreaking and inspirational. I wish I could remember the name of it.
