Going to be moving into my car

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 14:53

So the order has come. I have six weeks to be out of the house.
Been trying to find somewhere to rent since I was first told my tenant would not be renewed in March.
Nothing!
Properties going for more than twice what I'm paying now.
I live alone, self employed and have cancer. My income doesn't now meet the minimum threshold for a tenancy.
Council will only offer a bedsit - so I would be able to keep my dogs. Have already given up my other animals.

So I'm a few weeks my dogs and I will move into my car ☹️

Because you can do most of it by phone like most people !

What address do you use for HMRC, then?

PolarPolly27 · 03/09/2022 21:10

OP, you haven't responded to my post about the clinical trial you're enrolled in. If you're willing to consider moving to a different treatment centre, PM me as I may be able to help.

Snog · 03/09/2022 21:22

Check with your hospital as it often is possible to move hospitals whilst involved in a clinical trial.

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 17:41

@TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination actually you don't understand! You know nothing of my Heath beyond that I have cancer. You don't know what treatments I'm on.
You also don't know my dog. Or her needs. Or how traumatised she is.
So please stop making statements that you don't know are true

@Dobbysgotthesocks

No, I don't know what treatments you're on

No I don't know your dog

But I DO know that someone with cancer, on a trial drug should not be living in a car.

I don't know YOUR dog, but I do know about trauma in dogs.

Yes, I said chemo & you might not be, but you are on A cancer treatment.

maybe I presumed your anxious dog wees during the day, I don't think that's a big stretch

So, what's your plan for if/when you get sick in the winter living in your car? What will happen with your dogs then?

SheilaWilde · 03/09/2022 22:13

KassandraOfSparta · 03/09/2022 17:00

You would seriously live in a car rather than give up animals? OK then.

That's so NOT helpful!

SpideyMam · 03/09/2022 22:27

((( hugs OP)))

Some really nasty people on this thread.

I hope you and your puppers find something suitable.

SheilaWilde · 03/09/2022 22:39

TO ALL OF THE UNKIND AND JUDGEMENTAL POSTERS - why? Why? Why? Half of you havn't bothered reading the thread let alone the OPs come moments. This is a real person dealing with a really fucking shit situation. Say something helpful or just scroll on.

@Dobbysgotthesocks I really hope things work out. I completely get why you wouldn't want to foster/leave/whatever stupid suggestion your dogs - I wouldn't either. If I lived anywhere near I'd put a Shepard's hut type thing in my garden for you and your dogs until something more permanent became available for you.

I wish you well and please ignore all of the UNHELPFUL and UNKIND people.

RNLD1981 · 03/09/2022 22:42

OP I know you've said you're leaving the thread but I just wanted to comment...

Your situation sounds tough but living in the car is untenable - it'll be cold, possibly even dangerously cold and it seems impossible that you'll be able to find safe and legal places to stay. I think you have underestimated how awful it'll be, especially with your diagnosis. Buying a tent and camping equipment so you can use all year round campsites is a far, far better option. Failing that, a small van is virtually no harder to park than a car (you said that some of your clients have limited parking) and can be made more comfortable than a car. I also think you need to widen your search - even a very long commute is far preferably to the utter misery of sleeping in a car during the winter.

Finally, as others have said, you need to be well enough to look after the dogs. I really don't think your current plan allows you to be sure of that.

Good luçk

Not sure what your question is . I do pretty much everything online 🤨

Lavenderosemary · 03/09/2022 23:18

I'm fortunate enough not to be in the OPs position. What I do know is that my three dogs would be happy living in a mansion, in a car or riding the buses all day. Their home is me, their world is me. Not because I'm awesome, but because that's how dogs are. They'd probably be especially happy in a car because they could constantly be smooshed up against me. I hope the OP gets a nice home sorted, but I don't believe for one minute that the dogs would be unhappy or that she is cruel to keep them should she end up in a car at some point.

It's not cruel or unkind to point out the madness of a cancer sufferer living in a car as winter approaches.

My question is (and I thought this was implied quite heavily) what address would your business be registered to? I understand how businesses are run; I am not an idiot and I have even run my own business in the past! But I’ve always had to have an address. I just don’t want the OP to lose her hard-won business if she no longer has an address to use for her registration, and hasn’t thought about this until it’s too late.

Wiccan · 03/09/2022 23:30

mountainsunsets · 03/09/2022 20:10

You need a registered address for tax purposes, though, which OP won't have if she lives in her car.

Can buy and use a virtual address, many people do this especially if they move around regularly.

As OP is self employed I'm sure she has that side of things pretty much in control.

Orangesare · 03/09/2022 23:57

I’ve only read the OPs posts and a few of the other and I’m really sorry you are in this situation.
Some posters have mentioned camping and you can with permission of the owner camp on private land for 28 days without any planning or other issues.
A caravan can be placed permanently pretty on a driveway or in a large garden and be considered part of the house for planning. I live at the other end of the country but would let someone stay in a caravan oton my land for no more than 28 days if they were in desperate need. So it maybe worth asking around and putting notices up in places like feed merchants, livestock markets and other agricultural places. The older generation don’t always use Facebook.

Ok ? Bit abrupt , don't know why you had to point out you're not an idiot as no-one stated you were . But whatever.

Have you ever lived in a vehicle?..They get roasting hot ''Dogs die in hot cars''...and Bitterly cold, like an icebox in Winter..with three mammals breathing in a car, condensation will drip from the roof and pour down the windows.
It is a really silly idea that won't work for more than a day or two.

@Lavenderosemary is simply saying that our dogs will live with us anywhere as long as they are with their owner. Many homeless people live on the streets with their dog as the dog gives them a reason to keep going.

Giggorata · 04/09/2022 02:58

I don't know if you are still reading this thread OP, but I sympathise with your situation and wish you well.
There have been some helpful suggestions about vehicle living and signposts to websites that offer advice.
My only suggestion would be to consider swapping to a small van, having taken your point that you need a vehicle smaller than a camper van for narrow road parking.
A transit or smaller car based van would offer more privacy and feelings of security for a start, plus floor space for the dogs, more storage room for bedding and belongings, the chance to lie out straight and it would be easier to stick that reflective insulation stuff up inside, which would also help with condensation.
I frequently go away for long periods in my car based van, in colder weather, with a dog who loves the chance to sleep with me, and is better than a hot water bottle!
A Sheewee or similar is very helpful, btw.

sadaboutfriendship · 04/09/2022 07:17

This is insane. I’ve RTFT and I cannot for the life of me understand why someone would choose living in a CAR over somewhere with a garden because “I need a garden if I’m paying that much”. I get that OP wants to be able to walk her dogs but the alternative is living in a fucking car!!! This is completely nonsensical.

orbitalcrisis · 04/09/2022 10:46

Have you looked at renting a room? You might be able to find a house that already has dogs so would be ok with an extra one...

KnickerlessParsons · 04/09/2022 11:03

I think the OP has flounced off. Too many sensible suggestions.....

Absolutely.

I've never seen someone so determined to live with immense hardship. She has a job and she has money yet she refuses any and every available option. Complete madness and I feel sorry for the dogs.

If she's so hell-bent on living in her car then so be it. But why subject those poor animals to that?

Snog · 04/09/2022 11:19

It sounds like a very tough situation.
There are options here even if nothing ideal, and also ideas to follow up for further options.
Living in a car wouldn't be the best choice of the available options for many of us but we are all different and make the best choices we can for ourselves.
OP I hope it doesn't come to the living in your car option as that sounds very difficult.
