Going to be moving into my car

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 14:53

So the order has come. I have six weeks to be out of the house.
Been trying to find somewhere to rent since I was first told my tenant would not be renewed in March.
Nothing!
Properties going for more than twice what I'm paying now.
I live alone, self employed and have cancer. My income doesn't now meet the minimum threshold for a tenancy.
Council will only offer a bedsit - so I would be able to keep my dogs. Have already given up my other animals.

So I'm a few weeks my dogs and I will move into my car ☹️

i dont think the dogs would like it in the car op

Dobbysgotthesocks · 03/09/2022 18:30

Actually @TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination you know nothing of the sorts.

You know nothing of me.
You know nothing of my health
You know nothing about my cancer or my treatment.
You know nothing about my dogs or their history.
You know nothing of my background.
You absolutely know nothing about my autism and how it affects me.

You have been the most rude, arrogant and insulting poster on this thread and I beg you to leave it now.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean?

Do you leave them in the car while you're working?

Yes.

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/09/2022 18:32

No, the RSPCA will NOT take the dogs away if they're living in a car - if they have shelter, food, water, exercise, their needs are met, then they can live in a car, as can the OP.

Jesus wept did some folk get out of bed determined to be as unfuckinghelpful as possible today?!

OP - sort the car as best you can for living in. Think about in particular, dealing with condensation and cold. There are lots of van/car living resources online, though a lot are very America-centric.

Once you are actually homeless, you'll have higher priority on the social housing lists with the local authority, so start bidding for the bedsits as soon as possible - the chances of you being evicted for having dogs that you aren't supposed to have is pretty much NIL and it would in any case, take them fucking MONTHS to do once you've signed the tenancy agreement.

That route, whilst not deal, should see you housed fairly quickly even if its not ideal, and give you space to save money to find somewhere better in the long term. Social housing being much cheaper to rent than private rental.

Alternatively you may decide you actually prefer living in a vehicle and could save for a van or possibly a boat (thats very dependent on how much money up front you have and how close useful waterways are to where you need to work of course but the actual running costs of live-aboard can be FAR lower than renting a house, even social housing!)

I wish you the best of luck, I will not be parted from my dogs unless that were to be in their best interests, which is highly unlikely.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 03/09/2022 18:37

you have had some amazing help here op.
hope you get somethign sorted that suits

HeartofTeFiti · 03/09/2022 18:37

@Teddletime isn’t that one in Lancs?

@DanielTheGhostGangbanger Agree, camping in the cold is not easy but it’s a lot better than attempting to live rough in a car.

OP if you are living in a car, how do you see that working? Where would you park, legally and safely. do you car seats fold flat so you can lie down? What would you do with all your stuff - could you hire a garage or lockup? You could get yourself a memory foam mattress and cut it to size with a knife, and also an inflatable camping base. You’d also want something to insulate the windows (you can’t have the car on while you’re sleeping).

TunnelOfGoats · 03/09/2022 18:05

What about this live in position in Devon that was advertised yesterday? Then you can stay In that area for your hospital. Live in jobs can be lucrative as no or very low living costs

Fucking hell, the Ops back is against the wall and you're suggesting stuff that she's explained over and over that she cannot do. Show her some respect by rtft.

safetyfreak · 03/09/2022 18:11

So you have been offered a property by the council, a bedsit which you have turned down. You also refuse to look at other properties because they dont have a garden?

That does not sound like a desperate woman to me tbh. I agree with the other suggestions that a caravan would be ideal for you.

She can only bid on a bedsit, she hasn't been offered one.

Bunnyfuller · 03/09/2022 18:40

I think the op was hoping for a kind MN to say ‘you can have my second home, in Devon, near where you are, at a lovely low rent.

There’s been an excuse for every single suggestion, sometimes contradictory (reactive dog can’t be with anyone else/is used to friend/behaviourist). How the dogs cope cooped up in a car when the op is visiting her clients, or does the reactive dog develop the ability to cope with the clients? Why can’t a place without a garden be acceptable? Lots of people have dogs and don’t have gardens. Unless the garden is large, it is inadequate for exercising anything but a teeny dog anyway, so this reactive dog maybe needs more exercise?

You have to start prioritising your and your dog’s health, op. You need to give this trial the best chance, and living in a car isn’t that.

Sidnnancy · 03/09/2022 18:41

As pp said, the more op posts the less I sympathise. I have autism and don't like new situations but if I was desperate I'd have to just get over it and deal with it ie house share.

Good luck whatever you do.

BobMortimersPocketMeat · 03/09/2022 18:42

OP - how are you going to continue to run your business if you don’t have an address?

Perhaps some of you could trust the OP when she says what will and won't work?

This thread is appalling. So many people are just not listening and being vile to a woman who is about to become homeless and has cancer.

Honestly, take a look at yourselves.

No shit sherlock but her backs against the wall here and she fdoesnt want to give her dogs up. There is rarely a good solution for reactive dogs. She gives it up to a shelter and it will either be pts, passed around from home to home or receive cruel treatment. They are very difficult dogs. Shelters are being flooded with dogs currently. The op can afford a home....she's just struggling to find one.

Totally agree. I've rarely read such awful responses on here.

I'm so sorry you're getting a load of idiots responding. Try to just ignore the unhelpful comments. You've explained yourself and your situation over and over already.

RosetteNebula · 03/09/2022 18:48

Totally understand why you'd rather live in your car than house share or lodge - I am not autistic (that I'm aware of anyway) but house sharing/lodging would be totally intolerable for me. I'll keep my fingers crossed that one of your applications is successful.

KweenieBeanz · 03/09/2022 18:49

People saying what is the country coming to? The issue is not what the country is coming to, it's that the OP is placing remaining with her pets above being housed. And I'm sorry but that is absolutely batshit. As a previous poster has noted, the OP's health could take a serious turn for the worse tomorrow and the dogs would have to manage somewhere if she was hospitalised yet she is willing to allow herself to become homeless rather than put them temporarily in foster care?!
This is not a desperate person being forced into homelessness, it's someone choosing to live in a car for their own reasons despite plenty of other ways they could safely and securely house themselves. People need to recognise having pets is not a basic human right.
Furthermore as many posters have said the OP could at least TRY just not disclosing that she has dogs!!!

I'm actually beginning to wonder if this poster is hoping to be offered money by a sympathetic dog lover and that this might not be a genuine post, why else is every single other option being batted away.

TeapotTitties · 03/09/2022 18:50

OP I mean this kindly but are you absolutely sure your reactive dog wouldn't settle with someone else (although I totally get you don't want her to), but not wanting her to and her not being able to are two completely separate things.

As others have pointed out, if she's ok with your friend, ok with all your clients and has been ok about being locked in a car, the chances are she might be ok if you have to rehome her.

KweenieBeanz · 03/09/2022 18:52

But she doesn't have to become homeless!! She has a choice, which is to temporarily foster her dogs, which would enable her to secure housing. She claims she cannot do that but of course she bloody can, it's a CHOICE. She just does not want to. A dog's needs do not come above a person. I'm not sure what solution the OP is actually looking for here.

SquirrelCity · 03/09/2022 18:52

Bovy, pet may be considered

Clymene · 03/09/2022 18:53

And I don't wish to single out any individual posters but it's clear most of you have zero experience of dog reactivity.

Given that, it's probably not very helpful for you to make suggestions about what is and isn't possible with her dog.

ZoeQ90 · 03/09/2022 18:54

If the only solutions is your car, could you at least look at a campsite so you have a set location, some outside space and possibly even a little inside space? Some have a semi-sheltered kitchen area to small campers lounge, in addition to showers etc. It's likely to be getting quieter at this time of year.

Thatboymum · 03/09/2022 18:55

People on here would cry if they saw somebody leave there dog in the car to nip into the shop for 5 mins , the op plans to let these dogs live in a car and be left for long periods in a car while she works but it’s fine because they will get walked ? I don’t care if it’s unhelpful it’s bloody cruel and absolutely appalling that any responsible human thinks this is ok it’s animal cruelty. No matter what your health needs are this is just not ok and extremely selfish. The OP has choices she just doesn’t like the ones she has and if she chooses to stay in her car With them I really hope somebody who sees her reports it for these poor animals sake and for her sake so she can get a proper home and take care of her own health

Clymene · 03/09/2022 18:56

@KweenieBeanz - given you've posted twice in the last few minutes, finding temporary foster care for any dog is incredibly hard. To find if for a reactive dog is near impossible.

I'm wondering what the dogs did during the hot Summer we've had?
