Can honestly say I have not used an iron for 10 years !! Husband irons his shirts .
I personally cannot understand why people iron anything unless it is for professional reasons ! All my clothes look absolutely fine and our family are not scruffy or unkempt!

Elsiid · 19/08/2022 22:48

Haven't ironed in literally years.

Anyone who says they'd be embarrassed to be seen in unironed clothes needs to work on their self esteem. Must be very fragile.

YellowDots · 19/08/2022 22:50

Just iron them and save yourself embarrassment

I don't feel embarrassed about not ironing.

You could say this about anything.

Just grow your own fruit and vegetables.
Just get some qualifications and get a better job.
Just get fit and enter the commonwealth games.
Just make your own pasta.
Just cycle to work.

Americans have something called wrinkle releaser (or similar).

It's really just a dash of fabric softener in water.

I always have a spray bottle of that o. the go (homemade with Eco fabric softener) and spray lightly and shape/smooth clothes after dry (or while damp). They look perfect

I iron bedding as well. It really makes a noticeable difference.

I have heard ironed sheets are lovely to sleep on. Even that thought couldn't persuade me to bother though.

I have never ironed bedding 🤷‍♀️Shall ask the JRT tomorrow if she would rather I did😂

JustSaying101 · 19/08/2022 22:51

🙄

Do you fold as you take the items off the line or do you chuck them in the basket? Folding as you unpeg results in significantly fewer wrinkles. Clothes that go on hangers are put on hangers on the line, not pegged. You still need to iron a little, but folding as you take clothes off the line is the key to wrinkle reduction IME. I don't iron before putting away. I only iron what i plan to wear for the day. Saves a huge amount of time.

The next step is "strategic" hanging on the line. Hang items according to where they get put away eg all t-shirts together, jeans together etc. Then, as everything is folded as you unpeg, it's five minutes to put it all away as it's already sorted.

HRTQueen · 19/08/2022 23:10

What has any of that got to do with ironing? Confused

TwinkleToesStrikesAgain · 19/08/2022 23:12

How can you avoid clothes looking like this?

I don't. Simple as that.

Be at one with the creases. If you can let it go, you'll feel a lot lighter.

quickbathroombreak · 19/08/2022 23:20

Try Lenor crease release spray...

amzn.eu/d/8njh2fy

It's worked well on my T-shirts and dresses, haven't tried it on denim though

Coatdegroan · 19/08/2022 23:32

Haven't read thread but in our house we
fold wet Clothes
Put in a pile for about an hour
Gravity does its thing
Hang clothes

I would say about 80% of the creasing is gone
It's an awesome method which nobody else seems to use.

LtMoose · 19/08/2022 23:35

I honestly wouldn't care about those creases, I doubt I would even notice them

Smellywellyhoo · 19/08/2022 23:42

Tumble dryer.

puddingandsun · 19/08/2022 23:42

If you hang or fold them nicely as soon as they are dry most clothes are fine. No tumble dryer here.

I love ironing but never get the time. And with electricity bills going up it's better to do less, I guess.

TheRookie · 19/08/2022 23:44

Honestly those shorts are in the 'oh they look fine!' category! Wouldn't even think about it and no one I know would even notice!

ApplesinmyPocket · 19/08/2022 23:46

"No way could i let the dcs wear it like this." I don't mean to laugh but... I mean, who do you think is looking at your DC and noticing ?! No-one is interested in the T-shirts of your DC, trust me.

Haven't ironed in many years. DH does his own sports shirts. Nothing else. I don't think anyone would pick us out as specially unkempt but if they did... well.. life as we know it wouldn't end.

YellowDots · 19/08/2022 23:51

What has any of that got to do with ironing?

Nowt.

But 'just do it....' can be applied to anything. Where does it stop?

Kite22 · 19/08/2022 23:52

Plus i do min 2 loads per day its not do able.

Well that's OTT for a family of 6.

Then, line drying leaves more creases in that tumble drying.
But what do you think is going to happen if a child wears unironed shorts or Tshirt out to play ? Confused
The point is, it doesn't matter.

I iron for a wedding, interview, graduation and I can't think of many other occasions.

TooManyPJs · 19/08/2022 23:58

The creases drop out of most things when you wear them. The only clothes we iron are my husband's work shirts. And when I say "we" I mean "he" 😬

Chesterside · 20/08/2022 00:11

Oh god, sorry, part of me is sad for you and glad for me that I have way too much going on to even remotely notice what is bothering you!

The other part of me is envious of someone having time to worry about such small things 😅

sallowsunflower · 20/08/2022 06:19

My dc wear clothes like that, 1 hour of my dc in them and they'd look the same after anyway.

Treesuphooray · 20/08/2022 06:33

Are Your DC those magically clean tidy ones? The ones with tidy plaits, clean white shoes etc? I marvel at those kids and if so yes you do need to iron so I can admire them!

mine are mud magnets whose hair looks like a birds nest when I’ve just brushed it and who think nothing of splashing in puddles no matter what they are wearing. You can’t see the creases for the mud within 5 minutes.

i don’t iron.

CJsGoldfish · 20/08/2022 07:03

Both of those items, especially the shorts, are fine. Once on, any creases would be gone.
I don't own an iron. If anything does need it, I spray it with water and give it a few minutes in the dryer. 🤷‍♀️
