Your children must be young. Honestly the older they get the less you'll care, they certainly don't! My excuse is it's too expensive to iron now with the price of electricity.

Honestly a few creases in a tshirt will make zero difference to their lives.
Just get them lots of black clothes, creases shown less.

How many of you are there to be doing two loads a day? As a family of 5 (ie 3 teens over 15) we do about 5 loads a week. With lots of sport!

We do have a tumble. But try not to use it due to the expense

I put everything in the dryer. Works 99% of the time.

And when something is still wrinkly, I use a steamer - WAY easier and less annoying than ironing.

What steamer do you use?

I've cut my ironing down hugely. I used to iron nearly everything bar pants & socks! Was brought up with a strict old fashioned attitude... just because you're working class from a council estate and can't afford designer clothes and jewels, doesn't mean you have to be slovenly! It was drilled into me that you were a lazy scruffy oaf if you didn't thoroughly wash & iron every last item of fabric!

Since I started my own Housekeeping business and taking on an awful lot of washing and ironing for other clients, I've started being very lax with my own! But there are some things I just can't not iron, such as school uniform. The polo shirts never look neat unless ironed.

So looking for a reasonably priced for poor working class people like me who can't afford shit! garment steamer that might take even the ironing of those out of my list of never ending tasks

MonkeyPuddle · 19/08/2022 20:06

14 loads of washing a week? Fuck me lass. Do your kids not rewear something?

newrubylane · 19/08/2022 20:07

Crease release spray. It's not cheap but it works on most things. Hang up and spritz the creased bits. I turn anything silky textured inside out to spray, to avoid marking (juat water marks, minor and not staining). The only thing we've ironed in months was a shirt for a wedding and I ironed a pair of wide leg jeans yesterday because they'd got a big fold mark in them!

LittleBearPad · 19/08/2022 20:08

Dancingwithhyenas · 19/08/2022 20:08

I tumble dry everything. Pay extra for 100% green energy so I don’t feel too bad. I would guess most of us ‘non ironers’ are people who mostly use tumble driers.

Solution to this is not buy frilly stuff that looks better ironed.

BertieBotts · 19/08/2022 20:11

This looks fine. I wouldn't think twice about it. When I dry stuff on an airer it looks scrunched up, I still don't iron it though because I think life is too short to iron but it does look naff. It's especially bad if I don't get it out of the washing machine straight away.

Don't understand "couldn't let the kids wear this" though Confused why not? What is the concern? That people will judge you? What do you think they will think? (I'm not being snarky. I genuinely don't understand!)

FreezyFreezy · 19/08/2022 20:11

Why not wear them like that? They're only creases in what look like every day playing out clothes.

We stretch them a little whilst damp and then hang them either on the line or the airer neatly. Once dry, they're folded and put away.

MatildaJayne · 19/08/2022 20:12

I do 1000 spin, then tumble dry for 10 minutes to get them warm but still damp, then hang them on hangers to finish off drying. Never need to iron anything except thin cotton stuff. (Don’t usually bother even then!)

badgerybadgerboo · 19/08/2022 20:12

DH just asked what I'm laughing / snorting at. So I showed him the OP 🤣

Pressed post too soon because of a betting pop up and now I can't be arsed to finish the sentence

OP you need to relax more :)

Barrawarra · 19/08/2022 20:14

I’d love to hear too why you couldn’t let the kids wear them - this is anonymous, say what you really think!! They look absolutely fine to me.

SuperCamp · 19/08/2022 20:16

I pull things tight while they are still wet to get as much of the crease out as possible.

And have subjected my Dc, alongside me, to the shame of un-ironed shorts and T Shirts.

Honestly, as a FT WOHM there is no way I would have found time for ironing without driving myself further into the ground.

Titsflyingsouth · 19/08/2022 20:16

I just settle for having very low standards and a slovenly appearance. Real time-saver... 😁

Chocolatiestchocolate · 19/08/2022 20:16

I may look at steamers

My teen cares very much (16) tries to iron but has dyspraxia so often ends in disaster so myself or dh tend to do his too.
Hes very particular.

Well ive ironed 10 items.!! (shirts, dresses, frills) The other ten gazillion just hung and will test how it goes.

Fine if you don't want to iron. But don't pretend the creases drop out. They really don't.

Mine do. I shall demonstrate. These are just off the airer (couldn't line dry on deluge Wednesday). I'll shall follow up later when I've worn them - with timings

Chocolatiestchocolate · 19/08/2022 20:19

I couldn't because i feel id be judged, judged being a mum who doesn't care??
I know its silly but ive always battled with how people will judge anything i do. Or wear or say.
There is absolutely no reason for this. As there's only ever once someone was horrible i was 8 and ladderd my knee high socks at school. And i was bullied told i was a tramp who couldn't afford socks. Not true id ladderd them on the climbing frame at break.

germsandcoffee · 19/08/2022 20:20

Don't care what anyone says you can tell who is wearing un ironed clothes and it looks scruffy.

CuppaTeaAndSammich · 19/08/2022 20:20

These clothes are absolutely fine and don't need ironing. Just wear them and within an hour the very few creases they have will have dropped out with the warmth and shape of your body.

My husband and I hate ironing and only iron smart dresses, shirts and other clothes that are extremely creased. We tend to wear clothes that we can get away with not ironing or don't crease or don't need ironing e.g. skinny jeans and other denim, fitted cotton t shirts (not baggy), chunky knit jumpers, stretchy skirts. I tend to buy black trousers for work that don't need ironing if left to hang up. Hubby doesn't iron his work uniform (warehouse job)

DaisyJoy1 · 19/08/2022 20:21

Literally put it on a hanger. OR just wear it? The creases go almost immediately, before you even leave the house in the morning. Newsflash: nobody can notice, or cares, whether you iron your clothes unless it's like a formal suit for a wedding, and even then I doubt anyone REALLY cares.😂You're literally wasting your own time for no reason.

flossletsfloss · 19/08/2022 20:21

Just wear it 😂
